Stuff the results, want to see them competetive and no injuries

Going to be a lot of experimentation tonight, trying out players, systems, structures etc. - clipboards at the ready.

As such, not expecting too much, these are really trial games, and I have half a feeling that if we're winning, they'll rejig the players ... "yep, that can work, let's try Plan B".

Will be good to see how some of the newbies go, but equally, feeling that the likes of Cook are only in there so that they can see what they need to be doing, and to give them some motivation in the weights room.

Not to mention, with Scully, McKenzie and Jones out, midfield looks a little thin.

How Excited are you by the NAB cup game tonight out of 10? And give your reasons why or why not?

results could be interesting...

I'm keen to see how much players have improved in size and fitness from last year...Plus see new talent coming through...

And the cricket season was a shocker...so i've been hanging for the footy!

Two words in relation to how excited I am: pumped and very. Or is that three?

I've kind of forced myself not to care because I made plans with the g/f before realising the game was on.

Disgrace.

Don't you just hate girls who don't barrack for Melbourne!

I voted just 5. NAB cup are just warm up games. No reflection on the real season. Also we are well below par because of our usual spate of injuries. As Jaded said the injuries are at it again. Grrrrrr

You are complete moron Bobby. Of course the NAB cup is important, nearly as important as a flag. I was very excited with our efforts tonight. Post something sensible next time!

I voted a 7. It's not the real season, but I always look forward to seeing the new recruits in action to see if any show real promise....and it's been ages since we've played and....footy's back !

The question now is, how excited by tonight's game are you now that it's over?

I gave the original poll a 2. Easily taking care of the opposition, on the road, with a weakened side, and Wattts, Trengove and Jurrah leading the way, my excitement went up 1000 fold. Scully we love you and we want you. But if you decide to leave you are walking away from something special and we will achieve it without you if we have to

By the time 7pm rolled around I was nervous and jumpy as I always am before a game (I thought it was only players who were supposed to get nervous. Is it just me or...?) By the time the first game being played I was well and truly in. Playing well (relatively speaking) helped.

Good post and agree with your sentiments

Looking forwards to it, a 7. After watching it, a 5.

Just wasn't footy - but seeing the boys run around against competition instead of each other, even if it wasn't even really a game of football (those rules had us all pulling our hair out) and work together made it okay.

Saying 'a win is a win' almost loses some meaning when games go for only slightly longer than a looong quarter in the real thing.

Once we'd won the first game against Adelaide I was pretty darn excited. I wanted us to beat Port too. When was the last time we went through to the second week of the pre-season competition?

Game 1 5/10

Game 2 5/10

Game 3 0/10

Average 3.3/10

Mean 5.0/10

just to be difficult

Err...

You never did statistics at school, did you?

You know what he 'means'...

Some statistical humour for everyone.

Median is the word he is looking for.

Easy way to remember - the median strip runs down the middle of the road. Median strip.

I thought he meant the mode.

I also don't care what he means. I care what he writes. And I care about pointing out people's ridiculously hopeless mistakes.

Fire away, DC.

Not sure about these comments if you guys are giong to the game or are in Victoria?

But bloody hell I have waited ages to watch football again and watch my team. Forget about analyzing it to much or what we can take out of the game, I just can't wait for the feeling of watching the boys play.....

You must have enjoyed it. Think I was the first one to vote yesterday (other than the creator) and gave it a 9. Enjoyed the coverage. Don't like the out of bounds rule I agree with Bailey it should be scrapped. Even the umps were confused at times. It was good to see some of the youngsters (1st year players) have a go, good experience for them. And playing two teams in Port & Adel at AAMI; coming away with wins will be good for the team despite it being NAB Cup format.

I was excited enough before the game that i travelled from country WA to see it in person and after the game I feel that there really is a signifcant improvement in the physical presence of the younger players most notably Jurrah, Trengove and Watts.

What also impressed me was that Melbourne had a lot more first choice players missing last nite that both the Crows and power had out and to still win both games at a ground we never win at makes me think that we have both a deeper and much more poised and mature list going forward- 7/10

Saw the replay this afternoon.

Points I note.

Fast skilled ball movement from back line to forward line.

Positive ball movement from kick outs.

Excellent inside 50 conversion efficiency.

Forwards always looked dangerous.

Still getting beaten at too many stoppages.

Missed Frawley. Not enough defensive tall presence. Too many marks allowed inside defensive 50.

I suspect this draw was scripted with the expectation that both Adelaide's would beat us as a prologue for their mini derby.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
