Demons to investigate new Docklands base

The proposed move to the new docklands is nothing new and has be floated before.

It appears as though we are sharing the costs with Netball Victoria and the City of Melbourne for a feasibility study to be completed.

Demons to investigate new Docklands base

Plenty of comments from Big Jimmy on the proposal to move into "Western Park" next to the Bolte Bridge.

If it's deemed a better option than AAMI Park with its State-of-the-Art facilities then we can't lose!

I thought we were pretty settled now.

Yes and No. whilst our surrent situation is a vast improvement there are still some niggles and compromises. It was the previous board ( essentially 0 that got us directed towards Bubbledome and for that they ought to be commended. As too the current board for pushing it thorough and getting the deal we have.

Ever since the notion of a Docklands venue surfaced it has piqued the interest of our club as it would be superior ( again ) to what we have now and locate allthe machinations of the club in one spot. Unlike previously we can now look at all these things with some degree of calm and theres no need to rush to any decisions.

Whilst Bubble is good its not really quite 'ours' and a place like Western Park would all but be.

Now all they would need to do is paint those columns of the bridge blue with red vees...perfect !! :)

I cannot believe how much the current Board and administration have moved the MFC in such a short period of time.

For 25 years there was talk about a training facility. It has all happened at last. And we have an expansion growth option with Cranbourne and Casey.

This has got us onto equal footing with every other club, finally.

But they haven's stopped there. They are now looking at the next phase in 5,10,20 years from now. For the FIRST time since I have been supporting the club, we actually are planning for the future instead of trying to build on the past, survive or catch up to everyone else.

Big plaudits to Jim,Cameron, Don and everyone else.....

We are doing very well for ourselves at the moment...

If you pay attention to Schwabby's twitter, there have been a few from the beautiful game telling him how much they'd love to poach him.

All idle chitchat, but it shows you the esteem he is held in.

This site was discussed some time ago prior to the move to Bubbledome. The Lord Mayor Robert Doyle for the City Of Melbourne was involved in the discussons IIRC. It was also discussed on this forum in 2009: -

As long as it doesn't lead to more home games played at that awful nearby basketball stadium and a loss of our connection to the MCG.

why would it ? Didd our presence at the JO lead to that awful stadium ? No it didnt.

If we did, would we become the

"Dockland Demons" or the "Melbourne Dockers"????

Stop this Talk, the docklands charge far too much rent. And the food costs more than the airport!

This new place better be completely owned by us, The MFC or i say Stay where we are, its better than the junction!!!

You must also consider what the club has to pay for the lease within the current deal.

It's no use stomping your feet like a 2yo unless you know all the facts. Besides didn't you have faith in the current administration ? Or has that now fallen by the wayside ?

No surprise we're trying to bail on AAMI.

I know next to nothing about the Docklands idea but it's worth looking into simply because there aren't too many possible spots you could develop a facility close to Melbourne.

As long as it doesn't lead to more home games played at that awful nearby basketball stadium and a loss of our connection to the MCG.

Indeed.

While it would involve moving our administration out of the 'G, we've made an effort to integrate somewhat with the MCC and I'm sure we'll continue to cultivate that bond.

Not exactly related, but I was talking to a good friend who is an architect at Daryl Jackson.

For those who aren't familiar with the architecture caper or Daryl Jackson, his firm is a big player in the Australian industry.

They win lots of industry awards, have designed both Docklands stadium and upgrades to the MCG, and Daryl Jackson himself is a mad bombers supporter (you'd have to be...).

She's been having regular visits from Hird and Bomber Thompson, so they can tweak every minute detail on their latest project.

To the point of becoming a bit bored of it, she said.

Now that Essendon is looking to have a new training facility built, DJ is all over it, and designing the facility for peanuts.

I'm reliably told that it will feature 2 ovals - one an exact replica of the MCG, another an exact replica of Etihad.

This goes beyond merely dimensions.

The turf system underfoot will be built in exact accordance with that of the grounds which the ovals are to mimick.

I dare say a lot of training won't be done on the "docklands" surface.

Anyway, that's what we're competing with, or will be in a year's time.

Textbook ignorance.

They did what the client asked for.

Blame the "turf engineers" or whatever they get called.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
