This year it was Lynden Dunn, Mark Jamar, Clint Bartram and Ricky Petterd (well it looked like he had taken the nxt level at the start of the year before being injured) who broke out in 2010. So who's it going to be in 2011??

For me it will be adamm maric, many on this site don't rate this bloke but I'm one of the very few who see a lot of talent in this kid, others that i think will kick on in 2011 will be bail, watts, spencer, morton n i reckon tapscott will be a gun from game 1, ala scully, trengove, grimes, gysberts, jurrah.

thoughts?

Exactly like I said last year - Morton, Maric and maybe Strauss.

I just often tend to be a year early.

Tapscott, Watts, Blease for me. Players that need to would be Bate, Wonna, Strauss, Jetta and Maric. Those five really need to show that they are pregressing to the next level...Some people might think that's harsh on Bate, but there is going to be alot of competition for the forward line if Watts, Green, Petterd, Jurrah and possibly a mature age recruit are all fit. Newton goes without saying...last chance.

Roughy is McNamara. (if re-rookied)

I think:

Scully - after a full pre seasson he will be an endurance freak

Watts - Not expecting 100 goals, maybe 20 - 10. Who knows they may play him up the ground more until he fill out but either way i think he will be something special.

Jurrah - Can see him kicking 50 goals for the year

Sylvia - Injury free, conistant eason

Gysberts - Could he be our J. Selwood?

Bail - He will cement his spot

With so much talent on our list this is really the 'impossible question'. However I'll have a stab and say Rohan Bail. To me he has all the attributes to be a very good footballer (good size, pace, endurance, balance, smarts and sound skills) and with Bruce's departure, there's a regular senior spot beckoning. As a #64 draft pick two years ago, it could be a 'breakout' to rival that of some of our higher (more fancied) draft picks. My only concern is that Rohan seems to suffer a few too many injuries, but fingers crossed, they are mostly in the past.

I know its not really in the spirit of the question but I can only answer it with one word:

Melbourne

The team will gel and really start to work. As DOF theres just too much talent.

Melbourne , as a team , will be the breakout of 2011. Will surprise a few ;)

Bail and Garland to take the next step and Sylvia to be top 10 in the Brownlow

I think you maybe correct re your first part re Bail & Garland but Coljoy- don't know about that-however with Bruce gone ,this is the year to dominate

Posted

Well its not quite "break out" but I really think Sylvia is gonna take it up this year again to be one of the best in the comp. Not even a bad punt for brownlow early on

yer agree with this, mite put a bit of coin on col for top 5 or top 10

Posted

cmon you forgot our biggest break out in 2010. James Frawley!

thought chip 'broke out' in 2009 rather than this year where he instead took his game to the elite level, guess u cud still make a case for him then, ah well.

Scully will be huge. Will improve further to become one of the best mids in the comp. We will be drooling for the entire season, and there will be talk of brownlow form. I expect that he wont win it though. Top 5 finish, but he will claim it in 2012 to go alongside his premiership medal. :)

Gysberts - Could he be our J. Selwood?

I'm thinking Jack Vinney will be our Joel Selwood, icing on the cake in our premiership year?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
