Played a great game in the VFL Grand Final and showed some dangerous pace. Worth a look in at least in the rookie draft.

Certainly impressed me. Moves like Stephen Hill.

A very impressive footballer and promising footballer who definitely will make a list. A huge pre season will even bring him on further. He did not even train with North Ballarat - only picked up later on. Trained with BFL league team - Redan.

Yes HT the exact same player I compared him to, very dangerous left footer, moves really well and reads the play.

Where has this kid been?

He's only 21.

I hope Melbourne had some officials there yesterday, because he was impressive!

He won't make it to the rookie draft.

I have the feeling Mark Harvey (because he was at the game and because of his experience re: Barlow, Silvagni) will pick him up nice and early - even if it is a decent draft year, he ranks that well.

Kicked a nice goal at a crucial time when the Bullants were coming.

Anyone with the name Isaac has no place at this club, Once bitten twice shy.

Interesting thread to revive. You have to wonder about Isaac Smith's value right now to a club like us in need of outside spread.

He's signed until the end of 2020. However given Clarko's recent admonishment to his 'middle of the road' list, If I was in his shoes and i'd been looked over for the captaincy (sound familiar?),  I'd be concerned about extending my contract or getting out of there to a club prepared to give me 3 years. I wonder if we could prize him away from the Hawks by taking him off their books and giving them our 3rd or 4th round pick, which as it stands, is probably not going to do that much for us.

clarko was super aggravated about dropping the game to us on the weekend

smith has not, as yet, lost his pace

would be interesting to see if they offer him an extension; if not, he might want to exercise pre-agency to get a longer contract with another club

Yeah, he hasn't lost his pace. I can still see a few demonlanders chiming in soon about being a retirement home.

I do think we still need an injection of experience AND skill into the team, ideally you'd get a 25-26 year old wingman in the peak of their careers, but Isaac Smith is a rare quality who may have 3+ years to give a team like us that needs a few more personnel to bump us back up the ladder. I don't subscribe to us being a bottom side again, a few more tweaks and players to come in and i think we're back to being in the 5-8 range with a few more recruitment needs towards us being a contender.

One of the great outcomes of Rnd 7 was getting under Clarko's skin.  That's two in a row.

It was their best against ours and they hadn't had anywhere near the number of injuries and off field issues we've had so far.

One very poor sore loser is Mr AL

Come from the Swans.

He was at the Swans first and then the Saints. Then us.

His track record was keeping Sydney fit for two GF, of which they won one, and playing finals consistently and then taking St Kilda to two GF's a lnd consistent finals. Shocking track record.

I had a trade-crash on Isaac Smith a couple of years back, thought he was a perfect fit for what we were missing.

He's still going at 30years, at about 85%-90% of what he was at peak at 27.

For that he has a lot of my respect, but I don't think the reward is there to try to get him when at any moment he could drop another 10-15%... and then another...

Where oh where will we find our 'knife'? It is driving me quietly crazy.

“Trade news comes early, the cashed up Bulldogs have put together their hit list for this year and Isaac Smith is at the top of it. Prodigious talent Jack Martin is the next one on the list.

“Smith is a huge favourite of Luke Beveridge’s who spent three years with him at Hawthorn.

“Beveridge still believes that Smith is the best wingman in the competition.

Badly injured but recovering? I had a conversation with one of our better forwards, who left me in no doubt that he considers this kid to be an exceptional recruit, and once his injury is over ....

Beveridge won a flag, so that validates my opinion of Isaac Smith. The bloke is an absolute jet, and exactly what we need to go to the "next level" (assuming our next level is a Grand Final and not, y'know, 14th instead of 15th).

One of our must gets to snag one in the near term Chook.  Couldn't agree more

I can smell a 'need for leadership' coming on.

At least this bloke complements what we need on field....with outside run, metres gained and leg speed etc...

Jay Clark reporting that Isaac Smith is still up for grabs. Probably can’t add much more to this thread, but can’t believe we’re not having a serious look at him.

I get the knock on his age, but he just oozes class and was last year a potential captain of the club. Just what we need - good kick, still quick, leadership and wont be coming at a premium price.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
