I love a sunburnt country...

I would be pretty bored with it if I was a fan. Nothing at all wrong with Sharks. I like the idea of a mascot to instill fear. But hey, whatever.

Gold Coast have already stated numerous times that they won't have a nickname. the obvious one was the guards (as in lifeguards) and they rejected that.

this rumour is crap. They will just be GC FC, and i think 'the coasters' will stick as an informal nickname. don't mind it either.

Yeah, naah I don't like that. I reckon it's ok if they wait for one to evolve naturally, I guess like the demons did going from, was it the Redlegs or Fuschias or something, to the demons based on a legendary coach's team address. But to never have one? Meh...

kERRYDIXON - can you provide a source? or is this just speculation. I believe that it was one of the names mentioned but i thought the GCFC had decided that they would not nominate a monikor until they entered the comp and they were leaving it to the fans?

Sharks sounds best at the moment. Dolphins is too soft, Suns is weird and Stingrays is taken.

so is Sharks by Southport, who have a strangle hold on the AFLQ. 40,000 Mmbers i think. Thanks to their pokies club

The Gold Coast Titans in the NRL were going to use the Dolphins nickname but couldn't because of a dispute with the Recliffe Dolphins side.

Gold Coast Sharks isn't too bad, much better than the Suns!

SD - according to your theory there will be the same issues with Southport Sharks. What about the Stingers. As in the jelly fish? Marine Stingers

The other one I read somewhere was The Marlins. I like that, but again its an American Baseball team. I have no problems wth that though

I'd defintely think that Southport would protest to having the GC named as the Sharks

Not a bad suggestion, Gold Coast Stingers has a nice ring to it! And surely it's not taken by any other team...

Tingay would have to endorse it of course ;)

Here's a few to think about.

The Gold Coast...

White Pointers - dual connotations. Could be a shark of could be the best team emblem in the league....but only able to be broadcast after 9:30pm.

Blue Bottles - a good one for opposition supporters so they can yell at them to remind them they are spinless jellyfish.

Beach Bums - A good fit for most of the people on the coast who will actually support them; they being expat. Victorians who want en easy life lying on the beach.

Glitz - extravagant and often tasteless display (sums up the Gold Coast for me anyway).

Go Dees

My preference in order. Top 3 only!

1. Gold Coast Sharks (conflict with Soutport. So doubtful)

2. Gold Coast Ironmen

3. Gold Coast Dolphins

4. Gold Coast Surf

5. Gold Coast Waves

6. Gold Coast Heat

7. Gold Coast Theme Parks

8. Gold Coast Sliders

9. Gold Coast Skins

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers braved the rain and headed down to Gosch's paddock to bring you their observations from the second day of Preseason training for the 1st to 4th Year players. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
