    just trawling through some stats on footywire and stumbled across our 2008 brownlow pollers: 2008 Demons Brownlow Medal Vote Getters Complete 2008 Brownlow Medal Count Player Votes 3 Votes 2 Votes 1 Vote Games Played Games Polled Votes Per Game Paul Wheatley 5 1 1 0 19 2 0.26 Brock McLean 5 1 0 2 14 3 0.36 Cale Morton 4 0 2 0 19 2 0.21 Brad Green 3 1 0 0 20 1 0.15 Cameron Bruce 2 0 1 0 22 1 0.09 Christopher Johnson 1 0 0 1 10 1 0.10 Jeff White 1 0 0 1 15 1 0.07 Adem Yze 1 0 0 1 6 1 0.17 Matthew Bate 1 0 0 1 15 1 0.07 Simon Buckley 1 0 0 1 14 1 0.07 « 2007 Demons Brownlow Medal 2009 Demons Brownlow Medal » Thought it was very interesting that only 3 out of 10 of these guys are still on our list.

    Top 5

Jurrah - unlike many excitement machines, he will be a gun and kick many bags. Sylvia - love the damage he does when he's on. great to watch Frawley - Is the player I wished I would become when I was 12 Scully - gives me something to look forward to in the last quarter of every game, even if we are getting pumped. Davey - feels great every time the ball is in his hands. (just noticed these are the same as 36DD) The Brent Gergic Award for least favourite player: Juice Newton - his kicking kills me, and his work when the ball hits the deck is deplorable.
  4. I reckon Hale fits our needs perfectly. saw him in a couple of finals for North Ballarat and the guy is clearly too good for VFL. Before I get jumped on, I know the same could be said for Miller and Johnson, but Hale can cover the roles of both these guys. He presents well, provides a proper target up forward, and would probably take the other team's number one gorilla - taking some pressure off Watts. he is also more than serviceable in the ruck, something which cannot be said about miller. We continuously faced selection dilemmas this year regarding Miller, Newton and Johnson, and which one could fill that role. I reckon Hale can present like Newton, kick goals like Miller, and ruck like Johnson. He would be a great pickup and I think we could get him without giving up to much.
  5. Regardless of who wins it. Out of the 26 players that sportsbet is offering odds on, 5 are Melbourne players, with Trengove and Scully as third and fourth favourites.
  6. Gold Coast have already stated numerous times that they won't have a nickname. the obvious one was the guards (as in lifeguards) and they rejected that. this rumour is crap. They will just be GC FC, and i think 'the coasters' will stick as an informal nickname. don't mind it either.
  7. I find it interesting that they are our top seventh most capped players. Almost suggests it is a bit arbitrary, like we are picking them based on time on the park instead of leadership ability. Sure experience is important in leadership, but still find it a bit odd. Does this mean that when junior retires the next just steps in (Sylvia at the moment)? I've always felt NQR commenting on leadership stuff because its very hard to observe from outside the club, but it seems almost too convenient that the seven guys with the most games fit the mould, what about a younger guy like bate or jones - these guys look like on-field leaders to me more than rivers, for example, although i know a bunch of people are gonna jump down my throat now about rivers courage running back with the ball etc. Just a thought.
  8. Very good list except for bruce. he is star and there is no way he should be sent packing
  9. If he keeps training with us then that suggests he is still interested in being a demon, and we are are still interested in having him. It also means that either we want to use our number one draft pick on someone else, or we are just not sure about Thorpe yet. Given that Joel MacDonald has nominated for the pre-season draft only, i think it very likely that we have had a chat to him and told him we are interested but that we don't want to commit because you never know what will happen draft day, I also think he has probably got more definite answers from Kangaroos and/or Richmond (if they don't go for Polak) who are next in line, but would prefer to come to us. In my mind, Thorpe nominating for ND (I don't think anyone else will go for him at all in the ND, let alone before 50), and MacDonald (or Junior Junior as he will now be called) nominating for PSD is all good news.
  10. I actually had a nightmare last night that we took someone else at number two. Was so relieved when I woke up.
  11. Just announced on MFC website: http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?act=...ew_post&f=2 Very surprised by Bartram, thought he was toast at the end of next year. Cheney seems like a good move, would've thought the club would like to see more of Macnamara - didn't seem anything special in his few games that i saw last year, surpirsed by this also i guess, especially given that we just delisted (to rookie) to contracted players which effectively means we are paying them not to play AFL. thoughts??
  12. does anyone know what the money situation is?? presumably, if we rookie them, then they play out their current contracts. But if someone else picks them up then are we forced to pay them out?
  13. very happy with this. got a good mate who is a die hard hawk and has been talking up this guy for years. Could never get a game at hawthorn with buddy and roughead, but has apparently been very impressive in the twos when playing. I agree that it signals we know ball isn't keen and therefore we are looking elsewhere - also excited about taking a middie at 11 which i think is a good move given that butcher won't slide and none of the other talls have been given a top ten rap.
  14. Don't know much about this guy but he rejected the Eagles' offer of a third year on the rookie list and has nominated for the national draft. According to their website is a half back, mid, half forward flanker with strong tackling. does anyone know anything more, is he a chance with our second or third round pick?? My thinking is along the lines of: has a handful of games under his belt, and the eagles rookie group has been highly rated, and he is confident enough to go out on his own - worth a look. http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/players/...io/default.aspx
