Melbourne player wants to go to the Gold Coast

Recommended Posts

Bruce turns 31 this year and would be in the twilight of his career. So the question is what can we get for him? Another Jack Grimes?

Out of contract at the end of the year. So if Sheahan isn't just talking rubbish and they are interested, and he wants to go, we get nothing - except of course a speculative draft pick.

Can't be bothered going into the formula - its all speculation and rubbish at this stage.

Some ordinary loyalty to a great player and great servant of the club shown here. Some people should be ashamed of themselves.

If he wants out, then why should we be loyal?

The reality is that Bruce will most likely finish his career at Melbourne, but if at 31 he gets to move to the GC and extend his career and we get a draft pick and a possible 10 year player, then everybody wins (and by everybody I mean us :P)

I hope this turns out not to be true just so all of you who are knifing one of our own by celebrating (extremely prematurely) look like twits.

Has PJ been a useful backup to Jamar so far this year?

And even the crappest of players at AFL level have a good run of form every now and again - that's how they got to AFL level in the first place. PJ is no exception. Heck, even Luke Williams managed a two year contract after a purple patch, which was duly spent at Sandringham. PJ is a garbage footballer and if he's still on the list at year's end then there's something terribly wrong.

You didn't quote the bit where I jumped up and down with excitement that a player was leaving months before it has any possibility of eventuating.

Someone once said to me, people in glass houses'''', & my mother bought me a coffee mug with that saying printed on it.

I still have it to this day.

The AFL should also take a large dose of blame in the loyalty stakes, as it is them who have conceived these Faceless soulless Franchise Monsters.

Hey if Cam Bruce can get a good last contract-good luck to him. He will always be a Demon in my eyes.

I can't see him going though unless they offer him Top coin.

Ask Robbo, Yze,Whitey about loyalty!!!!

YOU typify the the weak clowns who hide behind user names and denigrate players who have given their all for the MFC.

Green was crucified when he was supposed to be leaving!

The only reason Bruce would leave is if they do not want him!

The others too!

You want loyalty !

GIVE IT BACK!!!

There are many faceless , gutless posters this is also aimed at!!

Weak DOGS!!!

Whoa!! Name some names! But agree that anyone on here sticking boots into Cam Bruce should indeed show some loyalty.

Way over the top for anyone to assume he wants out though. Didn't hear Sheahan on 3AW, what was said in relation to Bruce?

I couldn't see Bruce seeking GC out but likely to be the other way? All things considered the club if compensated correctly would do well out of it if Bruce wanted to go. Considering his age and where we are as a club and a probable decent draft pick how could it not be satisfactory to all parties?

Doesn't take away from any loyalty though but also IMO is unlikely.

There is speculation that one player from the Melbourne team has made a decision that he wants to go to the Gold Coast. Who could it be?

Do you know?

Is it Juice?? I had a client tell me a few weeks ago it`s a done deal?? I have no idea if its true or not but I can`t imagine he`d be the sort of bloke to make something up!

Get off your high horse.

The comments here were tongue in cheek, but I don't believe anyone would actually be foolish enough not to think that if this did eventuate, it wouldn't be a big win for us.

At 31 players are rarely sought after or traded for, especially players of Bruce's ilk (not KP, not a superstar), so lets not sit back and pretend that the club wouldn't jump at this opportunity if it was presented and Bruce was actually keen to leave. Seriously, why is everyone having a hissy fit?

I'm not talking about the club, Bruce or the AFL. I'm talking about posters that are cheering the idea. Cam is a great player for us. Sure he makes the occasional mistake but who doesn't? He works hard and is rarely beaten in one on ones. He keeps his nose clean and is one of the best role models around the club. If he goes he goes but he deserves better than the peanut brigade celebrating like we had just managed to trade Juice for a top 20 pick.

Crap. It all started with RDB going to Carlton in 1960 before the exsting franchise monsters came in.

And as usual you missed the posters valid point

Loyalty is most misused term by posters for their own ends

I can't see him going though unless they offer him Top coin.

He wont get "top coin" if he goes to GC and he wont get "top coin" at MFC if he stays when his contract expires.

we actually do get something.....they can take one uncontracted player from each club for compensation......see G Ablett.....who is also uncontracted

It would make sense considering the massive leadership gulf at GC17 and Cam Bruce is often spoken of highly in this regard.

I think leadership is (and GC17 see it as) a lot more important than the general football public believe.

Considering the draft pick we'd receive if he did go...

I think people underestimate what a valuable commodity it would be.

A draft pick that can be held and used in any of the next 5 years, where we could save it for a particularly strong draft?

To top up when we need it and when the list spots avail themselves, rather than being forced into tough decisions before their time?

Yes please.

Brad Miller is probably talked of in a higher regard in the same aspect, why wouldn't they want him? Especially as he's younger.

Not only is Bruce up to AFL standard (according to most...), but Bruce is currently VC of an AFL team.

Miller is not.

To be brutally honest, I think if it's true this would be a win-win.

Bruce's chances of extending his career are better up north, I think.

At MFC he will be squeezed out depending on how quickly our kids develop, but ours are already a few years ahead of GC17.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
