I was always taught not to ask questions if I didn't want to hear the answer.

Unfortunately this seems like one of those times.

I tipped the MFC to finish 8th before the season began, but after losing to Wet Coke i now have my doubts, the forward line is just not ready.

Losing Ricky Petterd will hurt us-That said there are 14 rounds to go & who knows what expectations the Players & Footy Dept. have.

We could make the 8 yes, but remember so far out of 8 games, 7 were at the MCG. It gets harder from now.

What question did you not want to hear answered.

Your question.

I highly doubt we'll make the 8, and that's the same opinion of most people on the site. In fact there are very few people who reckon we can. This year we're starting to move up the ladder - we're getting games into Trengove, Scully, Watts, McKenzie etc., and next year I reckon we're a good chance for the 8. You have to remember the last two ears we've 'won' the wooden spoon. You can't exactly tell our players 'okay, we're done tanking, let's make finals.' Our young guys need more experience for that.

There far more important things for this team to achieve than simply making the 8

Get over yourself. You can't start a thread like this and then essentially say 'Don't post if you disagree'.

Melbourne will not make the 8 if they play like they have been lately, end of story.

I think we could go close, by playing all our mature players. But at what cost to our future?

So, I don't think we will.

Play the kids.

So unless we put on the rose glasses and say yes you don't want to hear it?

No we won't make the finals. I thought at the start of the year that if we won 7-10 games this season then we could count it as a giant step forward, and I reckon that is where we will finish even though we have come along better than I expected.

Negative - nup.

Realistic - yep.

I would argue that you are being a negative poster.

Hey, that's a double negative! - red card!

A majority of posters have estimated that up to 8 wins is a good result this year - I was one of them. I must admit that the way we played in April & the wins we achieved I was prepared to up my estimate from 8 wins to 10.

However, I forgot we were a young side & that we would have the odd schocker i.e West Coast. Therefore I'll return to my original goal & push for 8 wins this year & unfortunately miss the top 8.

But next year ......

Must win this week to be any chance but reality tells me we'll win 5 - 7 more games. Which obviously won't be good enough.

Actually, the way the results are going with no one team bolting away at the top and a lot of "favourites" faltering at the moment, 7 more wins would give us a total of 10 which would quite possibly be enough to secure 8th position. After that, if it happens, who knows?

Agreed the important thing is that we get a cadre of the younger players who are well progressed in game time, Watts, McKenzie, Skully, Trengove, Bennell, Grimes, Wona, Spencer etc. hopefully Gysberts, Tapscott all get maximum game time - so far things have gone very well. I dont mind if we finish top 8 but a sustainable development is what we want.

That's the problem, if we were going to win enough games, we had to win those where we played at the G in front of our home crowd and we didn't.

Now we have to travel and our record on the road is probably one of the worst in the competition, not sure why we've certainly had plenty of practice. We lost games we didn't expect to win but should have and now we have to win on the road and we have a pretty tough draw, Port, Cats, Carlton, Collingwood, Crows(over there), Saints(Etihad), can't see too many wins there.

My expectations have been lowered and I would have to say, no.

We wont make the 8 pure and simple......that's not negative, it's reality. That's not all together a bad thing.....anywhere from 12th above would leave me satisfied and the players left with the hunger to improve further but knowing that improvements have been made.

Had we got over the line against the Dogs and Pies and not played as poorly against Nth and Wet Toast then we would be a very good chance of making it....the fact we didn't should make it fairly obvious we wont get there.

Happy to be proven wrong but out of 13 games remaining we need to win at least 8, most likely 9 to get to 12 wins. 9 wins out of 13 games for us would be.....I'll stop there...it wont happen, but what a ride if it did!!

why didnt you just call the thread "come polish my ego by agreeing with my unrealistic opinion" ?

No chance now. Different results to WB and Collingwood and I would have agreed.

To make the 8, we will need to win another nine games out of the next 14. Its a tall order from here.

Its one thing to think we can make the 8 and feel all warm and fuzzy. Its another thing to reflect no idea how it will be done.

Anyone got nine more wins marked down this year?

I think it's possible to start a poll with only 1 choice - try that next time ;)

I agree with those who think making the 8 isn't the main objective this year. I got really sick of watching the Dees make the 8 whilst still not being true premiership contenders...

So effectively you're asking this:

Can we make the 8? Only post if you think yes, otherwise I don't want to hear your opinions.

FWIW we won't make the finals. We will struggle to win more than 1 game over the next 5 weeks.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
