It is juat diabolical how bad this guy is.

30 odd useless possessions, smashed in countless one on one contests and even managed to give away a 50 metre penalty.

He is not part of the future,m he is a liabilisty. So why is he even in the team? Someone pleasse tell me what he brings to the table.

Every game that he plays is one less game for McNamare, Watts, Maric, Gsysberts, Strauss etc etc to learn theiur craft at the highest level.

Trengove and Scully must snicker at the fact he is the Vice Captain of the MFC. I pray they ignore him when he tries to give them advice.

And thank God he is out of contract at seasons end. Denmons should let cut him loose as it will free up 500K in the salary cap to sign some real footballers.

Take a nap, relax... clearly a post full of emotion.

I agree generally that Bruce is not our future. And I agree he gives too many hospital handpasses... but I'm not sure this kind of harsh criticism is warranted

Look im not a fan of Bruce at all but im willing to say he was one of our better ones today. He's not perfect but he did all he could to drive some movement in the back half. Some players on our list waiting in the wings will potentially be better than he is in the long run, but to suggest someone like Gysberts, Strauss will come in and do a better job next week is a bit far off the mark.

Also, he was our best player today.

You're watching the wrong game if you think that.

He was OK, and he did not lose us the match by any stretch of the imagination, but getting the ball 30 times only to turn it over or make terrible decisions is not enough to warrant a BOG honour.

We know he can find the ball, so could Ward. It's what he does with it that makes him hurt us.

Is this YzeMagic in disguise? This kind of player bashing is ridiculous, he was in our best 3 or 4 today, it's diabolical how bad your post is.

Yes it is.

And it is ridiculous indeed.

YM is taking a break for a while.

I have only just got back from the game

Bruce was a liability today

He had a shocker (continually hand balling to to players who were flat footed or marked by multiple opponents.

Disagree, he constantly makes poor handball decisions, putting players under pressure or missing targets. Today his biggest problem was his softness. Saw 2 or 3 blatant examples of him going too casually at the contest which was costly to us. The only reason he stands out to most people is beacause he still has a good engine so gets involved a lot.

You've really embarrassed yourself here. The old overly emotional post is closely linked with those without a clue.

I'd say you watched with your blinkers on today (or maybe I did, who knows). Bruce's use of the ball was fine.

FWIW I had no idea he got the ball 30 times. I rarely look at the stats, and if I do I'm looking at stuff like tackles and inside 50s, not disposals.

I dont think Jaded was blinkered at all. His handball is a serious issue. He does not deserve to be dropped but he was not for mine in the best 6 players in a Dees jumper. Not even close.

I might watch a replay later in the week and have a second look, but I don't remember at any stage thinking "that was terrible" as I have in the past. There were even a few instances where I thought his delivery was very good.

Posted

he wasn't our best, was far from our worst.

players worse than him today: rivers, martin, macdonald, just to name a few.

players better than him: green, bartram, dunn, scully.

just a few names off the top of my head. he was in the middle somewhere.

i didn't think bruce was to bad today. i'm not his biggest fan either. but he had a pretty good game today and should hold his spot. i think in a lot of games he does over use the ball by hand and puts teamates under the pump. but he does get put into difficult situations himself a lot too. we exect to much from him. he is a experienced player but is also a limited footballer in his twilight of the afl. cael morton has been playing a similar role to him in the past and when fully fit will put pressure on bruce for his spot. and i think that is healthy.

Bingo. Too many hospital handpasses, and as vice captain of the MFC, you can't do that. You have to penetrate the 50, run it up the corridor etc. and Bruce just can't do that.

Cam Bruce probably never goes "this is how you handpass, and this his how you kick," because those are not his strengths. He does, however, say "this is how you run, and this is where you need to be to get the ball." Bruce gives us run and numbers around the ball, but he also loses us run when he loops a handball or flubs a kick. He was noticeable today, that's for sure. Whether he was a benefit or a hinderance is hard to judge at times.

Posted

In fairness to Bruce today, he was under pressure because the midfield was reactive during the first half.

That does not excuse his average disposal when under little pressure.

But not his worst game today.

Posted

I was there. I saw it close up. Bruce looked like he had concrete gumboots on when it counted. Stats mean naff if you stuff it up regularly. Loose man in defence, no opponent, was the best from him today and enabled him to run off a couple of times. Other than that, if he's not at Casey next week we're treading water with little imagination when it comes to team selection.

True!

No question he knows how to get the ball but some of his disposal today was ordinary. Still, he was probably in our top 6 today, an indictment on the rest of the team! Keeps his spot in the side next week, just!

Bruce was disgusting today. His disposal and decision making was the pits.

Posted

I've always found his performances look a lot worse when you watch them on tv, but at the match a lot of the questionable moves look reasonable.

He has a serious shortfall when it comes to skills, which drives me nuts at times, but he is a player with limitations that still manages to play an important part.

We are a worse team without him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
