Overreact much? Ricky is one of a dozen midsized forwards that have shown glimpses.

What about Patrick Dangerfield? no offense to Ricky but if i was GC I know which one id be gunning for.

He's not going anywhere. Is anyone paying attention to the already publicised fact that MFC are paying 100% of salary cap to front load good players?

IMO - I dont think that Ricky is there yet, he has shown glimpses and for the first time looked comfortable against a reasonable backline, but its paying 100-1 for him to leave.

Go Ricky, go Dees.

He does a bit. He also looks a bit like Stephen from Survivor: Tocantins if anyone else watches that show. I've also seen him compared with that squirrel thing from Ice Age.

He's going nowhere. Noone sticks through the hard times and splits when it all turns good. Just doesn't make sense. Money isn't everything and he still has many years left. Many look over friendships forged at clubs and this is a huge factor in people staying. Money is often a secondary thought- more an icing on the cake kind of thing

Gerard Healy left when the Dees were in a similar position, and he had his brother at the club. For some, money talks. Hoefully you are right about Petterd.

I always thought he looked a lot like Elija Wood, though now that he's losing the baby face I don't see it quite so much.

I can't believe people are saying that Ricky would not be a target for the GC. He is EXACTLY the type of player they will be seeking out.

Do people think the GC are going to pull 16 champions? They might get one, but more likely they will be picking up good average players and highly rated younger players like Ricky.

Ricky is only 21, he is young enough to really be hitting his straps when the plethora of draft picks at the Gold Coast are beginning to peak.

The go-home factor and the fact the GC will be able to offer an above value pay packet keep me worried.

I will be feel much better when we get ink from Ricky and Jamar who is also out of contract and would be another perfect target for the GC.

the go-home factor?

It's been posted on this forum before that Petterd is in fact a Hobart boy and was only in QLD for a short while before being drafted.

Go-home factor is a non-factor.

Too right. In my opinion this cost us at least one flag as well. How good would have we been in 1997-1991 with Gerard Healy (at his brownlow peak) during this time.

Pettard is out of contract, Pettard is on GCs radar, he will be offered more money to leave (if they cant get JAMAR), the decision will end up being his if Jamar stays.

Jamar is the one Melbourne player GC have expressed interest in. I would assume that Jamars 1 year contract was a direct result of GC interest and Jamar thus wanting to keep this options open. I believe we will at least match what ever GC offer Jamar.

Weight for age Pettard is a better player than Robbo. At 21 Robbo was a one trick pony who could, not tackle, run, or kick. His kicking in his early days was terrible with poor accuracy and a range of about 40 meters. Pettard could develop into a "A" grader.

Before the last draft about half the posters on here were convinced that Jamar was going back to South Australia and he didn't. There was no indication from the club or jamar that he wanted to leave and he didn't.

Now we are speculating about Ricky. Can hardly wait for the season to start, oops it has hasn't it.

I agree....Be a devistating loss for the club, to lose ether player.

Go-home factor is a non-factor.

A friend of mine has a bit of contact with Ricky, his parents live on the Gold Coast.

I'm sure he has matured a bit but when injured a couple of years ago my friend was a little worried with his jocular comment that a positive of being injured was that he got to go home and live with his folks on the gold coast.

No doubt Ricky was just joking around making the best of being injured, but i think there is still some go home factor with his parents in the Gold Coast.

Here's hoping he stays, looks a very promising third tall forward.

Watching the replay of Saturday's game made me go back and look at some games from last year. Petterd played an absolute ripper against WC. I was struck by his great marking, liveliness, cleverness and the unpredictable nature of his game. He has enormous natural athletic ability and a great sense of where the ball is going to be. He is also very hard to match up because he is very quick on the burst but is a great mark for his size. If he could improve his kicking he will be an great player (hopefully for us). He's been a real surprise asset this year. I must admit, when fantasizing about my ideal lineup for 2010, that I couldn't necessarily fit him in to my best 22. After his last couple of games he would be in my first few picks. I hope we can keep him. He is a gem.

I don't think he'll come up here as he hasn't shown enough yet.

Plus the weather up there isn't much chop anyway compared to Melbourne. :P

Just out of interest. What are these claims based on??

Gold Coast have been extremely strict on not mentioning any players' names in the media as 'targets'.

Speculation and guesswork one would summise..

Sounds like a very polite way to say "bullsh!t"

Indeed it does, but most of what he said sounds plausible. I had arrived at a similar conclusion about Jamar's one year contract myself -- keeping his options open. Smart contract management from his manager IMO.

I don't disagree with that particular piece of speculation. That makes sense.

I am more getting at this continued garbage that GC is focussing intensely on every QLD footballer like the club is some kind of QLD family reunion.

It's rubbish.

Also the part where it's claimed GC have 'expressed interest' in Jamar is further rubbish.

All we have seen about the Gold Coast is speculation, every Club is focused on List Management now, what if Melbourne don't see Petterd as part of the future based on Cam Scwab's matrix from the Whiteboard Wednesday, and they are looking at offloading him after he has served a purpose this season, what if Jamar is looking to go elsewhere, we don't know, the Gold Coast cannot afford to pick 22 stars and pay them the kings ransom, they will probably snare 1 marquee player 2 if they are lucky and the rest will probably be second stringers at clubs. Personally I am sure Petterd can see the light at the end of the tunnel with Melbourne, and he has a coach who is helping turn him into an oustanding medium sized forward ........give everything time......

we don't even know what the makeup of the team will be until 5pm tonight.

People seem intent on driving themselves crazy with all this speculation.

Wait until the end of the season, and what unfolds unfolds......I am just looking forward to the game on Sunday and seeing the same effort from the team...and will be happy with whoever Bailey and the panel pick.......

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
