...this is an absolutely crucial game to them.

I wouldn't be surprised, though, if we did pull it off.

I agree it is a crucial game for them, but it is evn more of a crucial game for melb. After the performance of saturday all eye will be on melb to see if they can replicate the same. I personally feel that the game against collingwood was a game that was desperately needed by our boys. Another big loss and that would be lights out.

I think Melbourne are a great chance of a win this saturday, I can remember my last game v crows at the G, that day i watched our boys win against the crows. Lets hope they do it again this saturday.

I think some of you are underestimating our performance v collingwood saturday and the consistency of the team. To be honest Adelaide look absolutely pathetic and yesterday melbourne were playing brilliant corridor footy with pressure and speed, and you seem to be forgetting that we were all over a top 4 side despite some really poor umpiring decisions go against us. If we shut down Dangerfield and make sure that we keep porplyzia and tippett out of the game we can [censored] them. Despite Petterd's wonderful 4 goals i still believe we need a tall forward. did anyone see the picture in the paper yesterday of that mark petterd almost took at final siren? Sidebottom definitely chopped his arms. I reckon we were unlucky yesterday and the performance should not be bagged just because of the scoreboard.

Martin? I read somewhere they are trying to develop him into a forward :)

yeh they tried him a bit towards the end of last year

I'll state the obvious: if we play with the intensity and decision making of the Collingwood game, I can see a big win on the cards. That said, Burton has had a week under his belt. I'd like to see Grimes on Dangerfield this week. Drifting from the midfield into defence. Dangerfield kicked 5 yesterday, so if Grimes can shut him down and run off him, that would be a win for us.

I think the fact we lost on Saturday is going to really spur them on against the crows. They know that was a game they should have won and they will be keen to make amends. I think there is a bit of heart in this mob

Be a great challenge for Bailey this point. Once again intensity is needed, There is no easy game in AFL (Richmond maybe) Adelaide have been up there for years so there is no reason there should be any drop off. With a young list it is possible for sure so as i say Bails and the FD have got to really plan this week to perfection.

The Club needs a win, the kids have got to believe that for 4 Quarters

Do it for Jimma if he is in hospital B)

I'm worried about a big let down after an honourable performance this week. See Essendon against Freo.

Also our senior players were very good against Collingwood, and we wouldn't be coming off consistent wooden spoons if they played consistently as well as they did on Saturday. I'm not confident Jamar, Davey, Moloney and all the others will back it up. Maybe that will be offset by Sylvia and Rivers back in.

Sadly I'm tipping Adelaide to get over us next week, but I'm confident out first win will be chalked up the next week.

Yeah Cornes was not much last night, neither was Glass, talk about Hospital handpasses he was even worse. I reckon Cornes in on the wane and way past his best.

Don't the commentators love Nik Nat even if he was only in the camera shot they were calling him as having an influence on the game, it was embarrassing I thought.

Don't think many of you guys would be happy with Nik Nat's disposal. 19 possessions @ 33%!!!! Ready when you are Jack Watts.

The keys for this match are;

1. How we control the ruck. Jamar is playing the best footy of his career so far and easily made Fraser and Jolly look like crap on saturday. The crows are extremely weak in the ruck department with Ivan Maric and Jonathan Griffin their best chances and most likely they will only need one of these guys. James Sellar is injured with a hamstring so it further weakens their rucks. Another option would be if Adelaide uses Tippett in the ruck. This would help the dees as the Adelaide forward line would be without their best forward. From this if Jamar continues his early season dominance it could help achieve our first win of 2010.

2. Our matchups on the Adelaide forwards is crucial to win the game. Our backs did well on a more potent Collingwood forward line so they should be able to replicate it on sunday. Firstly the key matchups should be;

Grimes on Dangerfield

Warnock on Tippett

Frawley on Porplyzia

MacDonald on Hentschel

Rivers on Burton

With Bruce, Strauss and possibly Bail/Bennell to rotate through here or whoever else gets selected.

I think Frawley should get the job on Walker because when we played Adelaide in the preseason Frawley dominated him. I would then move MacDonald to Porplyzia and Bruce to Hentschel.

Forgot about Walker, Frawley should give him a flogging, but I would put MacDonald to Hentschel and Bruce to Porplyzia as I think Bruce is more mobile and JoelMac does a better job defending stronger less athletic players.

It seems that everyone has forgotten the hideous twilight game last year....

Adelaide by 4 goals in another low-scoring game.

what we haven't forgotten is the performances of the respective sides last weekend, bit more relevant wouldn't you say

Posted

About as relevant as round 1 was to round 2?

Melb thrashed by Hawthorn and Collingwood beats WB, that really was a good formguide for the Melb-Coll game wasn't it?

So you agree that last year's twilight game isn't very relevant?

I'd say the state of Adelaide at the moment is very relevant to any consideration of Sunday's game, but obviously it should be taken into account along with a number of other factors.

I'd say that it's up to the players. If the Adelaide players think they have the wood over us because of last year, and our players sort of agree with that, then we'll go backwards, but if the Crows are worried about their current form and how they played against Sydney, and we go into the game confident about how we played against Collingwood, then we might have the edge. And another thing could happen. We could go into the game worried that we'll revert to how we played against Hawthorn, causing us to get nervous. Any one of these things will happen, and maybe a combination of each.

So you all might be right.

If we allow Adelaide loose men in our forward half they will beat us, but we we play man on man like we did on Saturday we have every chance. Our team isn't good enough just yet to allow our opposition to have loose men behind the footy.

The big question is who will kick our goals. Interesting game in the balance and no Newton at FF, if you are not going to play him at FF no point playing him as a back up ruckman.

I would like to see Martin come in, we just need that big body in our forward 50m and if Tippett gets on top of Warnock, Martin is the ideal match up. I also would like to see Maric in for Bennell, Maric is a forward pocket he needs his chance.

We have a chance to win this week then we have a run of games against Richmond, Brisbane, North, Bulldogs, West Coast and Port, I am going to get a head of myself, we will win 5 out of the next 7 games.

................ I'm feeling very pessimistic about our chances, but it is equally possible that they young guys could turn on a showcase game and [censored] them. My comments come from the theory that such an inexperienced group is unlikely to produce the same intensity two weeks running. I'd be thrilled if the could show me otherwise, especially if it gave them a sniff and some momentum going into the Richmond game which has to be seen as a must-win for the team.

I can see what your theory is based on Ralphius. But on a less conservative note, if we can roll the Crows it might be an indication that our young group has a bit more 'maturity' than most of us give them credit for.

can someone please get last years lineup and compare that to the one we think will take place on sunday?

From footywire, as edited by Chook:

2009 VS ADELAIDE

Moloney, McLean, Morton

Davey, Bruce, Jones

Sylvia, Frawley, Petterd

Rivers, Johnson, Bennell

McDonald, Warnock, Bartram

Jetta, Bate, Dunn

Meesen, Miller, Newton, Martin

2010 VS COLLINGWOOD

Grimes, Davey, Bail

Green, Bate, Bartram

Moloney, Bruce, McDonald

Macdonald, Warnock, McKenzie

Bennell, Frawley, Dunn

Petterd, Scully, Jones

Strauss, Newton, Trengove, Jamar

INS: GRIMES, BAIL, GREEN, MACDONALD, MCKENZIE, SCULLY, TRENGOVE, JAMAR, Strauss

OUTS: MCLEAN, MORTON, Johnson, JETTA, Meesen, Miller, Martin, RIVERS, SYLVIA

Those in caps are who I would consider possibly in our best 22 if available tomorrow. Also note that Rivers and Sylvia, who are listed in the OUTS, both have a strong chance of returning to our team vs Adelaide.

It scares me to say it, but at the MCG Melbourne are a good chance.

It scares me because Melbourne rarely play well when they are expected to.

As some have no doubt learnt, a week is indeed a long time in footy.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
