The only info on LJ says Bell out for 6 weeks, Jurrah is still being considered. In my experience in these things often several medical opinions are sought and options considered. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case here. I'm sure given the supporters' concerns they would post the verdict just as soon as it is arrived at. It may not be quite as bad as we fear now.

By the way, Watts was 2-3 weeks last week. What is going on here. How long term an injury is this. Clearly also Garland and Bate didn't pull up quite as well from their run at Casey as first indicated as they are still on the injued list

I he's going under the knife tomorrow,,,, then,,, how would they know, accurately, till after the surgery???

Better to wait till they have the surgeons first hand advice after inspecting & repairing the joint.

I think your right. So a few of those guys should be ok to take on West Coast this week. I'm sure Watts cant be far off. I saw him training at the junction oval a couple of weeks back and he was going flat out. Would be good to see him play at least one game before round 1.

For years I had an unstable shoulder whereby continuously popped out when moved in the wrong direction.

I tried every exercise to try strengthen the ligaments however ended up biting the bullet and undergoing surgery.

I underwent arthroscopic surgery to tighten the ligaments in June 2009. It was the most painful experience of my life and incapacitated me for a good 3 months.

I Was in a sling for 8 weeks and only started proper weights training 6 months later.

If LJ undergoes a similar operation he will be lucky to play a game this year.

The positive is that my shoulder is 10 times better now than it was before (even though the surgeon advised me not to play physical sport) and am confidant with movements above my head.

Poor shoulders for a footballer is a disastrous scenario unless you are a midfielder that can get away without much overhead marking i.e Judd.

To a leading forward however, could be career hampering. Think Nick Holland who had his career cut short.

Lets keep our fingers crossed that the prognosis is better.

The difference between your case and LJ though, is that his rehabilitation process will most likely be far more rigorous and supervised. Whereas you may have seen the physio once or twice a week at most (possibly even only once a fortnight or once a month if you weren't as serious), LJ will have people at his disposal almost every day of the week. Though I agree that 12 weeks is optimistic, a return mid-late season 14-16 weeks away is not out of the question. But considering our record of late, I daresay we ill be conservative with LJ.

Also to think about is that his attitude towards his rehab will help determine when he can return. Considering the vast cultural difference of LJ's background, his lack of previous injuries and probably inexperience with interacting with the medical profession, it will be interesting to see how he approaches this challenge. He will need to have a lot of help from his team-mates and the club to get through this and back ono the field.

Hopefully the fact that LJ is having his ligaments tightened immediately will mean that the irritation and damage which may result from his joint constantly popping out, won't occur. I want to see Liam reaching up with one hand and plucking the ball out of the air with no hindrance from a clunky shoulder injury.

I am devastated by this news however! There is no rhyme nor reason, no karma, its just dreadful luck that our most sparkling player is struck down by such an injury. Just as he is about to blossom. He is the jewel in our team and one of the reasons to go and see the Dees. As Neale Daniher once said, "Footy sucks sometimes!" He was right. It just seems that it sucks much more for Dees supporters a lot of the time. If I was a religious person I would pray right now. As I'm not, I'll just have to scream and bang my fists on the floor.

I notice that most posts seem to be talking about recurring injuries, strengthening of ligaments, etc etc... but is there any possibility that this could have been a freak occurrence that can be put down to the way he landed and it is something that may not happen again? Is it possible that the time being taken by the club is in looking closely at sucvh a possibility with surgery as a last resort?

I am certainly no expert on such matters, but I thought I would throw my thoughts out there in the face of the current bout of negativity

Dont lose hope, we may be without LJ for awhile. But the great Wayne Carey stuffed both his shoulders before the age of 20, and hes the best overhead ive ever seen.

We just have to wait and see what happens
