Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dean Bailey to get contract extension

Its expected that Dean Bailey and Melbourne will announce a contract extension for Bailey during the NAb Cup. I think its smart because he does deserve a chance with this list and it will stop speculation this year as it would have been his final year. Hopefully the meida will lay off him and we perfom well for him.

As JT would say, I'm lovin' it. A solid move in the right direction.

That is great news! Has this been confirmed or is it a rumour?? If true, surely he will get a 2 year contract, 1 year doesn`t make much sense and doesn`t show much confidence.

Very good move by the club

1 yr is plenty. 7 wins in 2 years does not, in itself, deserve more.

Surprised you would even give him 3 months

Not surprised you quoted his win loss ratio

Bailey along with our recruiting team has done everything possible even at the detriment of Bailey,s own coaching win/loss ratio to ensure the future success of the club on the field

has players who have dispayed the skills and personal traits AFL requires before being drafted

You give yourself the best oppurtunity from the bottom of the ladder to do that

Nobody gets it 100% right so time will tell

I am positive if a few contracts fell a year earlier Bailey would have an even better list today

His past coaching expertise was in development and thats exactly what mode he is in now

He has a foundation of a side he can now develop with confidence if given a contract extension

2 years would be minimun and 1 year would be an insult

The future on the field will have alot to do with the future off the field for the MFC in the next decade IMO

Sheesus mate does trading Johnstone and McLean ring any bells? What about agressive list management to secure Trengove?

Yeah, fair call I guess.

Johnstone wasn't too hard a decision though, and neither was McLean once you put yourself in his position.

I thing "aggressive list management to secure Trengove" is tripe.

I was thinking more in terms of Robertson, Yze, White, Wheatley, Whelan -- these were all fairly straight forward decisions in my book.

When is the earliest we are looking at winning a premiership? 2012?

It means that we have a coach who is coaching us through development years who has shown that he is an excellent developer of young players. If he is extended until the end of 2011 then the worst thing that could happen is we discover he's not a very good finishing coach (in years where we don't need a finishing coach). If it turns out he's not the coach to take an excellent list to premiership then we'll have the opportunity to replace him before such time as we are actually challenging for a flag, and the players have been further developed by an excellent developing coach.

It also means that Bailey can focus on developing the players in 2010 rather than sacrificing development in the search for cheap wins early in 2010 in order to get a contract extension. And, in reality, after 2 years and additional 10 weeks is not going to tell us too much more - plus we'd then have to offer a 2 year contract taking us to the end of 2012.

Plus it also adds stability during a period where the media will be sniffing for blood. Sorry scumsuckers, there's nothing here to see here - so move on to Mark Harvey.

And he had a great list at his disposal too. Comments like yours pay on heed to the circumstances surrounding the outcomes. Glad we agree on the one year.

Harsh decisions? Which ones??

I think he's only made glaringly obvious ones so far.

In terms of list management, that is.

While seemingly obvious to the outside supporter the decisions to retire/delist marque players of the past decade are not easy. They have been handle professionally, seamlessly and in the best interest of the Club. He has ensured there has been a due and proper process to this.

FWIW, Johnson was a difficult decision and could have been retained. In respect of McLean, the Club went on the front foot and got a top pick for him.

Its not just the outcome, its the process undertaken to achieve it.

His past coaching expertise was in development and thats exactly what mode he is in now

GIve him one year and give yourself the chance to see if Bailey is as capable a finishing coach ans he is a development coach.

FWIW, I think Axis of Bob nails it here.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
