Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Right age and right 'type'.

I'm interested, and while there seem to be some concerns over his character I'm sure the same could be said about more than a few AFL players.

Sure, he's had some injury problems, but I think it's worth a shot with a pick that'd we'd use pretty late in the draft if not for a recycled player in the PSD.

so they have made some pretty ordinary decisions in the past few years.

And some pretty good decisions as well like selling Hay, Thompson and Rawlings for well over the odds and drafting Buddy, Roughy and Lewis and others with the proceeds. Lets not forget the flag last year either.

Hawthorn wanted to trade Sewell for Ryan Ferguson and the deal only fell over because Ferguson didn't want to leave us and was contracted so we couldn't force him. They also gave away Zac Dawson and found themselves short a defender when Croad went down, so they have made some pretty ordinary decisions in the past few years.

This may be the next one.

I was thinking about this today. It would be fantastic if Thorp could have an influence on us like Dawson had at the Saints.

There's risk, no doubt. But I think we're in a position to give him a go.

That's true but let's not confuse them with mental giants that never make mistakes.

BTW they cheated North by not telling them the truth about Thompson and his medical condition.

I am not sure Hawthron did know the full story of Thompson at the time.

And if they did, there would be a legal storm over privacy issues of release of an individual's medical information. Not to mention discrimination in employment.

So why didn't North do their due diligence properly? The AFL is a small community and if North had done their research, the issue should have emerged.

I definately agree with BattlerBailey, Thorp could realise this is his last chance and really step-up for us similar to Dawson.

Pity we didn't get Sewell for Ferguson.

Everytime in hear him on his weekend show with DrTurf he doesn't stop bagging us.

I've never had that impression on Pickering, to be honest I haven't heard him bag us either, unlike Dwayne Russell - but that is another story. "Pickers" would be silly to bag Melbourne or any football club for that matter, as a player's manager. If he is talking about the lack of state of the art facilities or a "home" which the bigger clubs have, he is probably stating the facts or the perception that is out there of Melbourne. Which more than anything can be annoying.

If it is banter with Dr.Turf, you might find he is giving "Turfy" a little ribbing as he is a Dees supporter. Take it with a grain of salt would be my advice.

I agree, it doesn't hurt to get him into the club and see where he is at and what he is about. Was highly rated as a potential big forward only 2 years ago. He has struggled for injury but at teh same time the Hawks did play him down back a lot which may not hav esuited him. If the club do decide that he has good qualities and is fit and that they will take him in the PSD I believe that it may also help us out in the ND as pick 11 or 18 may let us still pick up the best available as opposed to being forced to go for a KPF as we will be getting Thorp.

Getting Thorp is only an option if we know the full reasons the Hawks let him go and he has gone about improving himself, be it injury or attitude. If he comes to our club trains the house down and wants to be a demon I would welcome him. If he is still training with us in December he will be playing for us next year.

Pickering actually has a lot of nice things to say about us, I'm not sure where you get the idea he's a 'Demon hater'.

Who's Dwayne Russell BTW?

Your kidding right?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwayne_Russell

Journalist...radio...tv...

The Age,3AW, Fox Sports?

also played for geelong for a brief period?

Anyway, watch us play on Fox Sports..he loves tearing through us..

I have to listen to his stupid voice every time our games are on Austar. I detest him.

Until it is known what Mitch Thorps "problems" were, the jury is out on this one. He can play better than a chunk of players on AFL lists, that said from all reports the guy has some serious issues.

Hawthorn has some talent to burn, but if Thorp was worth a dime he would still be at Hawthorn.[Deleted]

I think Thorp may have done his dash at AFL level. I hope that he gets his schitt together and makes good of his #6 selection. Worth a rookie punt, but not a ND or PSD pick.

You might want to very very very quickly delete that line!

Nice work quoting that particular line too, genius.

But I do agree.

You could at least throw an 'allegedly' in there.

Thanks genius. I did it for a reason, because I knew the post would be removed, as it would stand out much more if I did it like that. As has happened.

Thanks for your input, hero.

so which is it Rhino??? if the football community is so small hawthorn would have known about it using that logic.

Not necessarily.

Hawthorn may have known Thompson to be moody/sullen/tempremental etc but not aware of his diagnosis of depression.

North could have become aware of his behaviour and found out it adversely affected his game and not offered as much.

If Hawthorn were fully aware then under privacy laws they would be unable to release the information to North without the player's prior consent.

If that was the case then its possible that the information under wraps could have been subject to leaks.

As North were chasing Hay at the same time then their antennas should have been up anyway for behavioural issues.

Thats the problem. Its been nothing but injury and attitude..

He's done nothing, been injured the whole time and has a nasty side

Why the hell would he be welcomed at MFC? Makes me wonder why were scraping the bottom of the barrel.

If we pick him up, Id be more than bemused.

I want Thorp for one simple reason.

He WANTS to play for the MFC.

All we ever do is [censored] and moan about all these players who don't come to us, and that nobody respects Melbourne.

But this guy has actually said he wants to be picked up by Melbourne in the PSD.

For anyone who has seen him play his natural talent is undeniable. Injuries were his problem, see if he can stay fit through to December and pick him up.

He WANTS to be here, that is what we have all wanted so many players to say.

Watts, Jurrah, Thorp.......

Exactly!

I think it would be a wake call for him being booted from the Dawks. I think he will want to prove alot of people wrong as he knows it will be his last chance to impress. I hope he has got an aggressive side to his game without being cocky!

Watts, Jurrah, Thorp, Liam Patrick (Pick 34). + either of Butcher, Black, Talia, Carlisle etc. My preference is Black Pick 11 and Carlise Pick 18 if available. Hopefully we can pick up two keys positions with 11 and 18 + Thorp. Patrick would be a jem at Pick 34.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
