Freo talk is ridiculous.

There is only one place Arron is going if he leaves Melbourne and thats Essendon to play with this brother. No time should be wasted talking about other clubs as possibilities.

Ugh, I really want to keep Davey, but this is getting a bit ridiculous.

There is nothing I hate more than players who play their own club against others.

I understand family and security is important, but how about teaching your daughters a thing or two about loyalty and mateship. You wouldn't have a career if it wasn't for us picking you up as a 20 year old rookie.

And if you don't stay out of loyalty to the club, how about the loyalty to your brothers?

If he insists on 4 years, let him walk. Nobody deserves 4 year deals, let alone soft-tissue-injury prone, inconsistent players.

Cam Schwab on twitter:

'Having glanced thru the papers this morning I again emphasise...don't believe everything you read. Repeat after me...'

He's maintained the same line throughout the process he seems confident Davey's not going unwavering in fact.

I hope this is resolved either way soon it just doesn't look good that people are reporting our players are considering

jumping ship.

But what would look good is Davey staying for less money with us and stating that he loves the Dees. Then us signing another player being chased by several clubs. That would look good.

^ Who do you have in mind.

By the way players should be pissing themselves to come and play for the red and blue new training facilities bunch of young exciting players the can leave their

mark on. All the reports should be going the other way maybe i'm deluded

I don't want to lose Davey, but also don't want the club giving away the farm to keep him either.

I think if push comes to shove, the club will give him what he wants, and that has to do with Brock already leaving, and the message it would send to the members if Davey left as well.

The question is, will he be the difference between us winning or not winning our next flag.............I'd say categorically no, and based on that, if he does leave, I won't be losing too much sleep over it.

We have enough genuine talent on the list, and about to be added, that our future is bright with or without Davey!

The Bombers have plenty of room to manoeuvre under their salary cap because of the retirements of Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas, as well as the imminent departure of the out-of-contract Andrew Lovett, who was in Brisbane yesterday talking to the Lions. ... from the Australian article.

my question: why the f*** dont we? we have two senior players on reasonable money and rest are kids.

this 92.5% salary cap is rubbish. employ one less plodder exec, and put the money towards the football salary cap. considering cold coast will be getting to pay 110% or soemthing, how on earth are we going to compete in the long term.

we are getting an extra 1.1m from the stadium deal next year. i hope that goes to ensuring we are paying more of the salary cap to entice players to come to the club.

loyalty or not, if you are being offered double, you will walk.

Essendon won't trade him, which should give you an indication of how they rate him. And as stated, I've seen him play. He was very very good.

Have a look at some Eesndon forums. Their supporters consider him untouchable.

You have no idea about him as a player save for his injuries. He'd be a risk, but if he passed all medical doubts he'd be a massive coup. But as stated, Essndon won't trade him.

Ok ... looks like we will just have to agree to disagree.

Essendon wont trade him .... yeah well 1 week ago I would have said Melbourne wont trade Brock McLean or Aaron Davey ... today I would not say the same.

With all due respect dont think the MFC can base trading decisions on what "Eesndon forums. Their supporters consider him untouchable." ... 98% of AFL forums are emotional rubbish. Common your smarter than that.

With all due respect nobody know what sort of player he would be with any confidence ... why? ... facts say he cant get on the park. Its all "potential"

Essendon wont trade him ... because Essendon always over value their own ... hence making them near impossible to trade with at trade time. The only bloke that could make any sense of what Essendon said at trade time was CC and he is now elsewhere. Essendon are like your mother-in-law at trade week ... you only talk to them because you have tooo.

So we can agree on one thing Essendon wont trade Gumbleton to us ... but not for the same reasons. ( I hope)

Should also mention if (massive if) I was going to take a player from Essendon it must be out of their best 22 & one they want to keep.

How is he injury prone? He's missed 16 games in 6 years

He is susceptible to soft tissue injuries (mainly because of his speed), and the older you get, the harder these are to recover from.

The point is, that if he does a few more of these hamstring injuries, that may seriously hamper his output, and yet we'll still be stuck paying him $600,000+ per year for the next 4 years. It's madness!

Take the 3 year deal and show some loyalty, or off you go.

Posted (edited)

Weren't Lucas and Lloyd on the veteran's list?

How would that free up room.

I agree we shouldn't give him 4, but I don't see him as any more injury prone than most other players.

The trouble with Brock and Davey being our best two players is that they are/were our best two players (according to some).

Melbourne's best players need to be as good as Hird, Brown, Ablett, Judd, not Aaron and Brock. One of the markers of greatness is the ability to play a great game in a big game. Davey has never done that; in fact, he has gone conspicuously missing when it matters.

If it transpires that Davey leaves because he can get more elsewhere, and by more I mean too much, then I'll wear it in the expectation that we will get someone potentially better.

(Yes: potentially.)

In four years time we might be saying "We should have traded Davey when he had some value."

On the other hand, as long as we don't pay too much, I will be comfortable if Davey stays, even if he continues to be afforded the easy-kick luxury of a sweeper's role.

Offer him 2 mil over 3 years. Surely both player and club could agree to that.

Would not be the least bit surprised if this is not dragged into trade week to see the offers first before signing the deal. Wonder if pick 10 comes forward?

Why does everyone write their own little random replys that have little to no content in them? People come to these forums to hear facts or/and updates on the MFC, not speculation by thought.
Didn't you know? More than 98% of the Jordan McMahon Trading and Drafting Board is speculation and innuendo.

Freo's pick 4 would be nice for Davey. Not pick 10.
See, isn't it nice when you contribute to the speculation? ;) Just for the record the best info on this thread is cam schwabs advice on "dont believe everything you read." Edited by High Tower

That may be what you want, but reality is I doubt you'll get that for Davey.

You reckon Essendon overate our own, have a listen to yourself.

Davey had a good season in 2009, and yes, may win your B & F in a team that won 4 games.

Mind you, he wasn't rated in the top 40 players in the comp by the All-Australian selectors.

Pick 10 and maybe a Leroy Jetta type is about what you are looking at.

And forget Gumbleton. Essendon won't trade him, but if he goes anywhere, it will be back to WA.

I actually don't know why Essendon are chasing him so hard. $2.3 mil for 4 years is way over the top for Aaron Davey. If we grab him, it's a bonus, but I wouldn't be moving heaven and earth to snare him.

Posted

I don't believe there is much to worry about. WHY?

The Australian which is part of the Heard Sun reported last week Davey had signed a deal. We later find out THEY WHERE WRONG

Today the Hearld Sun reported Davey was thinking of his options to leave Melbourne. If you read the article you would realise it is one of the worst articles ever written. All the questions asked gave the reporter the answer he wanted. Surprise Surprise the Hearld Sun would never do that

NOW ON THE OTHER HAND

A Melbourne champion in the Ox says Davey is close to a deal with Melbourne and THE CLUB CEO said on his twitter today and i quote "Having glanced thru the papers this morning I again emphasise...don't believe everything you read. Repeat after me..."

You make your own mind up who to believe, a Media company that writes nothing but CRAP or the CEO and past Melbourne player? I know who i believe

Nothing like a good mis-quote either if your referring to me. ;)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
