Pick 9

It has come out that the hawks are prepared to trade their first pick (9).

What will it take for us to get this?

They are screaming for a backman and a ruckman. We probably have too many key position backs so maybe this is where we can get this pick.

Rivers & pick 34 for pick 9?

Imagine picks 1,2 and 9 WOW

I will be so furious if we gave up Rivers.. he reads the ball about as good as anyone in the comp, and people say we probably have to many key backs is crazy, we are building a great backline and Rivers is almost what we build it around. No trade for mine!

Imagine picks 1,2 and '9'...AND 18....that would be a whole lot of WOW

i'm sure melbourne would be considering it. i'm not sure of giving up rivers. i would consider Jamar...i wish we had nathan carrol to trade.

But west coast have come out and said a similar thing about there first round pick...would trade for small forward

If we get pick 9 somehow, Daniel Talia should be an option.

He's about 195cm, good kick, and can play anywhere on the field.

Therefore we can get Scully and Trengove/Morabito/Rohan at picks 1 & 2.

Rivers is worth more to MFC than pick 9.

maybe Bartrum and pick 18 or Miller and pick 18.

maybe even Miller for Jarrod Morton

People just dont get it you have to give something to get something. I would trade Jared Rivers to obtain pick 9? Why? Because I rate Jared Rivers but do not rate him above our other defensive options in Frawley, Warnock, Garland and Martin. He is the oldest and is likely not to be at his best when we are ready for a tilt. He is proven to be injury prone. He lacks the flexibility of a Garland, Martin or Frawley on a leading player. He does not possess the strength of a Frawley or Warnock needed for a powerforward. He does not have the rebounding abilities of a Garland or Frawley. People need to understand that you need to give something of quality to get something. It is clear that many clubs that are in or getting close to the premiership window will be on the hunt for a key back ie: Geelong, Carlton, Hawthorn come to mind. I would not give away Rivers but I would put him up for trade and if I could get a pick inside 15 would give him up without hesitation. This may open the door to get a tall forward where pick 2 is too early to take them and pick 18 is too late.

Big no to trading Rivers, he's the leader of our back line and with the list of departures from the club, after McDonald, Bruce and Green Rivers would be close to our next most experienced players. I'm all for youth but we need some older and more experienced players to remain at the club. Also as far as I'm aware Rivers is one of MFC's untouchables as far as trading goes.

Agree with all of that. If and only if we were offered pick 9 by Hawthorn for Rivers I would take it in a hearbeat. I dont think they would trade on that. But I agree, any pick inside the top 15 for Rivers and its game on.

"Jared Rivers is the oldest and is not likely to be at his peak when we are ready for a tilt." - Freak

Jared Rivers was born on 18/10/84. That means he will start season 2010 aged 25. Freak, how long are you prepared to wait for a serious tilt at the flag? I am patient but I am really hoping a for a tilt at a flag before Jared Rivers reaches retirement age.

He may not have be as good as each of Frawley et al in the areas you identified but he can most certainly read the play better than Frawley et al to be in position to either mark an opposition kick into the forward line, zone off to help a team mate or be with his opponent to spoil.

How many times in a pack is it River's fist that spoils an opponent's marking attempt?

Not tradeable.

Not tradeable.

For the right offer, almost anyone is tradeable... Including Jared Rivers...

I'm in the group who also believes that we can afford to trade one of Warnock or Rivers, however would want to make sure that we get something decent in return. Pick 9 would qualify as something decent.

Jared Rivers is a rising star who has struggled with injuries in the past that have hampered his development, he had a breakthrough year this in that he got through the year uninjured and with that confidence he can take into a massive pre season and really play good footy next year and beyond, therefore it is ludacris to trade him for an unproven youngster.

plus hawthorn would say they would trade pick 9 for players like lake and tarrant etc

and we get weakened as a result by losing our best ruckman, and our gun defender? oh, but wait, its a draft pick, we always win

at this rate, we'll be trading jack watts at the end of next year, cos someone offers us pick 5

Warnock, Frawley, Garland, Martin, Grimes, Cheney, Morton (who I think is suited down back. Possibly the loose man) will cover for Rivers.

Spencer, Majak Daw, Johnson (just had a bad year. I think! LOL) Martin will cover Jamar. Jamar is at his peak to trade. Has'nt shown much in his long stint at the Dee's till now. Half a season! Big deal.

This trade would get us 2 top KP's (Pick 8 or 9 along with our Pick 18) and possibly a ruckman/forward in Majak Daw at Pick 24 or 25.

I will take that anyday of the week!

We wouldn't get pick 9 for Rivers. Btw, who else thought he squibbed it on the members wing on Sunday ? Not a big deal as he usualy "goes", but it was pretty poor.
Yes he pulled out. Disappointing. I think the Hawks would be looking at a key defender such as Tarrant

So why would a good recruiting team like the hawks give up a precious top 10 pick for that??

They'd want Warnock/Frawley + pick 18

-for pick 9..

Would we do it??

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
