Everyone can get on their high horse and blame the AFL for a system that encourages teams to lose, and supporters to barrack against their team, but the fact remains that priority picks have helped many many clubs turn their fortunes around. Have a look at St.Kilda.

So yeah, it's a [censored] system but it's there for a reason, and we would have no chance in hell of ever winning a premiership if that system was not in place because putting it simply, we have no resources, no cash flow and no power to manufacture a premiership in any other way.

It's the only system in the AFL that rewards everyone equally, without prejudice.

Yes, you are going to the footy hoping your team loses, yes that sucks, but you get to walk away with hope that things will get better, the team will get better. Had we won today, it would have done nothing for our future, absolutely nothing. I don't want to beat a rubbish team, I want a premiership, and getting the best players to your club is still the only proven method of winning a flag.

You don't get it. Barracking for us to win is barracking for us to lose. In 7 days time this goes down as a meaningless game in terms of the short term result. In 5 years time it could well go down as one of the better days in our club's history.

Did Carlton lose when we defeated them in Rd 22 and they used their pick and leverage to gain Judd and Kreuzer? No. So Carlton supporters were quite right to be singing their song after that game. I for one was ecstatic.

Of course the system should and will change. But while it is like this, thank goodness for McMahon.

Self explanitory. I feel pretty dirty about it, but i did.

EDIT: For the life of me i can't figure out how to work these polls, so if any mod can add one for me that'd be cool.

I don't feel dirty @ all, but I feel sad for the game (AFL), that this thing where teams are not trying to win the points, is harmfull to the game itself & we must all ensure that a lottery system inclusive of the priority pick is added into the lottery barrell.

That way the certainty of pick 1 goes out the window, the 9th team on the ladder could end up with first pick, if they were lucky.

The bottom team that may also have a priority pick, could say, end up with the priority pick falling @ say selection 6, & their fist pick might be drawn out @ selection 4.

The second bottom team, say without a priority pick, may be unlucky & get selection @ 7th.

I turned up to see how the match panned out. I turned up because I've already paid for the right to be there. I turned up because I wanted to see some of our younger players.

I don't enjoy watching us lose, but I know that losing gives us a better chance at winning a flag.

Same here. I really liked the fact that it would have been very easy for the players to just go through the motions, especially when it was obvious that the coaching box wanted us to lose. Instead our younger players, led by Jones, Grimes, Dunn, Valenti, Petterd - said hell no, we want the 4 points from this game, stuff the consequences.

Teams would still tank for a Judd or a Franklin, the extra pick (priority), just adds incentive.

The priority pick, concept is valuable to truly down & out teams.

But the certainty of finishing amongst the bottom 2 or 3 & getting one of the best kids in the land, is just too strong.

The lottery style (bottom 8) draft, with the priority pick rolling around in that barrell, will sort this issue.

And Richmond wasn't trying to beat Melbourne. Thats the way it looked to me.
