Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rest Brock?

is it time to let Brock get over whatever injuries are troubling him? He was hardly sighted tonight....10 touches and 2 frees against...was just a non factor and hardly noticed he was even playing. Lets rest him up and get him fit and firing for next season. Play Valenti for the rest of the season and lets find out once and for all if Valenti has a future.

Time to start planning for next season!

There are probably half a dozen others that should go before him, but Brock looks like he really does need a genuine "rest." I don't mean that he needs to be dropped, axed, picked on etc etc... he just looks like his body is letting him down. They say he's stubborn, but the coach has to be the one to make the call. Omit him from the side and let him rest. No good taking on Casey, he's just not right.

We definitely need to be looking at the big picture with McLean if there in fact is one. He is clearly struggling in most facets of the game atm. Playing him out for the rest of the season I doubt would help him or the team other than from a morale point of view for him. He obviously wants to do his best for his team but he is just not in the game. No power in the legs, no speed, no strength in kicking, can't hold his ground body on body. If there is a debilitation there then we may as well rest him and throw a few others in the middle. The Blease injury is all the more annoying.

Don't expect any selections that make sense. I've given up on that. Dropping Cheney and Valenti after just one game was just typical of the selection comittee this season. I'm sorry but i've lost faith in what they are trying to achieve. As i've said on another thread (and was deleted) I fully expect another 9 floggings by the end of the season. I'm fine with that. I can see the big picture. What p****s me off, is playing kids like Valenti(who I don't think has been given a fair go) and Cheney, and dropping them after 1 game. After watching last nights game, it just re-enforced my beleif that our senior players aren't up to it. It's a poor reflection on them when a kid with 8 games experience (Grimes) is perceived as our on field leader.

no way, keep playing him if he wants to captian our club he has to show over the next nine weeks why he should. We need someone to step up at the moment no one is except Grimes

I think trying to get a kick, would be higher on his list of priorities than captaining our club. Anyway, I think even Col Sylvia has passed him on that agenda.

If Brock is actually playing injured (and its not confirmed that he is), then this might be the only excuse he might have for his performance. His lack of pre season may not assist either.

But you can hide behind these excuses for so long. I have said before he had plateaud over the past three years. He is either not good enough or not fit enough (injuries) for AFL.

Also having run of the mill similar type midfielders in Jones and Moloney does not help the situation.

This will be another season we get two thirds of a season from Brock marked by too few highs, considerable mediocrity and growing concern.

I just don't understand how a players skills and decision making can go from very very good to very very bad in such a short time. Earlier in the year I put his poor form down to the lack of a pre season expecting him to improve with more game time however he has gone backwards in almost all areas of his game as the season lingers on.

If he's still feeling the affects of a dodgy foot it's simple DON'T PLAY HIM. Get him right for next year and play Valenti in his role. At the moment his lack of speed and accountibillity throughout the middle of the ground is killing us.

God I hope we get Trengrove and Scully next year.

I'd like to see him rested also, for the rest of the season.

If he is carrying a persistent injury that is affecting his performance, which does look like the case, there's no point playing him. You'd think his confidence is absolutely shot at the moment, as his body can't do what his mind is telling him to, and i'm sure he knows he's playing bad footy. In many ways, he's losing the respect and support of a lot of Melbourne fans, as well as the football-following community.

I've heard many people, from being in pubs, to watching games at the ground, or just in general chit-chat with mates, say "he's an absolute hack" or something along those lines, this year. Now, for him to go from being widely respected as a quality footballer and future leader of the club, to having that be popular opinion of him, in the space of 2 years... something has to be up. And it can't be good for his confidence either.

Get him under the knife, let him do a full rehab, and prepare him for next year's pre-season. Cue in the rack, Brock.

I have been saying this for weeks.

IF he is injured, rest him and get him right for 2010.

(IF he is NOT injured prepare him for trade week.)

Take the rest of the season to see Valenti's worth - after all he was again promoted from the rookie list, and played about half a a game as a forward with little or no time in the midfield - almost Daniheresque coaching that!

I once thought of him as a possible saviour/captian to be, but will Bails finally attempt to take control of the list by dropping someone who has been a walk up starter for years regardless of form?

I hear much talk of underperfoming players being dropped, and I for one would like to see some shaking up, impactive coaching. West Coast should crumble here either way and if done without Brocky, he would need to push himself pretty hard to surpass the talk of critics and be asserted as a star as he once was.

Thoughts, anyone?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
