  1. thankyou kc. your help is appreciated week in week out.
  2. Great analysis of stats HT. you make this place worth regular visits.
  3. I hope Barry Prendergast is still evaluating the top ten properly not following the glitz and glamour of top picks. There are still four likely chances of wins in Port, North, Richmond and Fremantle. If hell breaks loose(erupting demons everywhere), we could end up with pick 5. Not saying its of a high likelihood, but possible. The following to me (in the next eight rounds) would be far more pleasing than two top picks: Col Garland playing a game (not a necessity but hope he's doing well) Dunn and Maric kicking 15 goals each Robbo, Bate and Jurrah kicking 25 each Miller/Newton back for 20 goals (either or) restrict 5 oppositions to under 75 points. If we can do all of these, suddenly we dont need a Butcher as a forward prospect, just one quality midfielder. If it turns out not to be scully or even trengove and we get some other keen youngster, id still be happy that our list is young enough to not have to worry about depleted drafts for the next however long.
  4. Recent sooking is surely him hating himself for not having the confidence of old to fly. After some injuries there can be an attached stigma of every time you jump, your landing could be your last. Growing in reassurance each week as seen against WCE where he seemed unimpeded like previous weeks. One more decent year in him IMO, and then a well deserved 2011 forward pocket rest to retirement. Hope he can still bag 40 in that final year and get his tally to 500. Would provide a great salute to himself and the club honouring his commitment. Fingers crossed. Would be great to give him one more final to try and cut loose in, but probably too far a stretch (i reckon 2011 finish will be about 10th)
  5. All for Dunn coming back in as a mirror of Matty Bate's role. Love to see Bate coming through the midfield and then popping up for some leads on/to the 50 arc. The inverse role needs to be given to Dunn. If working we'll have our HFF positions filled for the next 5 years. This to me is not a replacement for Col, who is often referred to as a half forward but to me it seems pretty clear he's a goal kicking mid. Dunn was a forward to begin with and now, having done some hard yards learning midfielder roles, should add what he's learnt to his trick bag and go back to how he began. The occasional relief stint is all the midfield time he should get. His forward line pressure was one of the reasons we one against richmond.
  6. there could be a clean out of richmonds forwards with a new coach and if we are prepared to throw away a second round pick, we could do a lot worse. Then again, maybe we could just give Newton one more chance. Its not like he's solely responsible for all our losses. C'mon Newts, a summer of goalkicking practice!
  7. I once thought of him as a possible saviour/captian to be, but will Bails finally attempt to take control of the list by dropping someone who has been a walk up starter for years regardless of form? I hear much talk of underperfoming players being dropped, and I for one would like to see some shaking up, impactive coaching. West Coast should crumble here either way and if done without Brocky, he would need to push himself pretty hard to surpass the talk of critics and be asserted as a star as he once was. Thoughts, anyone?
  8. Threre is no choice: Scully and Butcher. If the first game (NAB Cup) next year we named: FB: Frawley Martin Bennell HB: Garland Rivers Strauss C: Morton Moloney© Davey HF: Bate Watts Wonaeamirri FF: Sylvia Jurrah Green F: Jamar Grimes Jones Int: Meesen(or Spencer) Scully Butcher Hughes I would be a very happy member.
  9. All this talk about the really young guns like grimey and morts, and we keep overlooking a man everyone at the club values: Brent Moloney. He has the heart that the club needs to build its culture around and with a warrior like Jonesy by his side in the centre they can power our engine room for many years to come. When these two have the fire in their eyes it has opportunity to spread. With a little bit of silk on their wings and a contested marker or three (a quality crumber would be nice also) up forward we would be well on the way to rebuilt. Moloney is a leader for the club looking forward, and im beyond sick of seeing bruce as a replacement captain. not a positive for the future.
  10. outs: frawley and rivers ins: cheney and newton would like newton to have had one more week of goal kicking practice but hopefully he used the time he had off for this. dunn has a great opportunity to tag a gilbee type from the half forward and hurt them with a goal or three. if cheney doesnt perform, belly will be back and id rather he just pressed for a spot to keep people on their toes.
  11. dunn to play third man up when johnson is rucking and then run with cox. who else is worth tagging?
  12. 6 brent moloney 5 aaron davey 4 james frawley 3 jared rivers 2 brad miller 1 lyndon dunn
  13. cant wait for this boy to have the muscle to back his mind. its not fear that holds him back its knowledge. when something has to give its likely to be his body. one, maybe two more preseasons and he will be in top flight and one on the hardest players in the afl to stop. i sincerely hope he treats the time between now and his body being ready as a lesson in how opposition players play (for future reference on how he can get past them) and where and when his team mates want it. pray he doesnt get seriously crunched by selwood this weekend to prove his hardness to you.
  14. Where can I find a report on the game? Been looking for a while and nothing yet. Could someone help me?
  15. i love the room i had at the ground yesterday, was just a little too close to a 'you werent there' argument about bock. freedom of speech and all; but if the patroling police do nothing to quell such stupid arguments as they escalate toward violence, id rather be alone. A lot more people used to bring kids to footy and i can see why they dont as much now. (dropping beer alcohol percentages was not the answer.) on a side note: where there more seagulls then people there? can we could sort that out or has it just become geographical?
  16. oh yes, definitely seconded. wish we could see the same impact of scott west on jonesy. that would be a dream come true. (who is our actual midfield coach? i know westy only has the occasional word)
  17. losing margin: 68. agreed on the power of our backline Ablett: unstoppable. 34 touches, 4 goals. wont need to fluff around racking up handballs against us so that should drop his numbers and if he wants to try for 50, he'll cost his team about 3 goals with the time unnecessarily spent. hawkins: will get 2, just because of the delivery. good minutes: more just hoping for moments, as i did last year. strings of 8 touches by presenting with quality and deliverance. still hope for the future stuff. and finally an additional answer of scoreline: melb: 10.7 67 geel 20.15 135 (miller 3 robbo 2)
  18. if newton is dropped, which many clearly hope, i hope he remembers that he was playing afl. back in the vfl (with plenty of hours goalkicking practice) he should star up forward and warrant a spot back in the team with enough confidence for a career at the top level. cmon juice; 16 goals in 3 games at casey and you could have an undeniable place at melbourne for years to come! oh yeah, and robbo in for him now. no pressure robbo, but watch for some crumbs; theres a lot of forward line flyers now. hope grimes can adjust to his injuries symptoms soon, he has such great skills.
  19. i think you may be right on some of these but bates kicking doesnt seem to be his biggest problem; IMO its his skills off the deck, gathering below the knees thats letting him down. hope its just a hamstring hangover. millers skills arent that bad; i think the forward line chatter between players is either absent or inaccurate. Hopefully robbo makes them a unit again with the obvious common goal, the two big ones.
  20. who are adelaide's jets? i don't rate any player they have that is still quick as warranting a tag. hope to see dunn on half forward around macloed so when he runs off dunn can get a few easy ones. bartram, green, jetta out. mcdonald, grimes, maric in. i know its harsh to jetta(and could affect both bennell and davey), but the replacements are absolute guns. maric can do what jetta has been and more; grimes has the skills to release davey to brighter things.
  21. Newton was excellent in marking contests (great kicks and blocking made it easy but no easy spills), pushed to the ball when necessary and ran out of steam by the final siren and this is a good sign. If in the past he seemed to not give his all, he seems to have reversed that. goal kicking not great but at least he was disappointed in that and accepted he must work on it. still a chance for the 22 even when robbo comes back if he puts in the hours off field from now til then. great to see dunn spend some time around half forward too. loved the bomb from outside 50.

    Jack Watts

i think dean bailey is good with the younger guys and is doing all in his power to relieve the pressure from jack, and i for one applaud him. jack will probably play 6 matches this year and if possible less than 60 percent in his first 2 (hopefully kick a couple, get the media excited, then do the same the week after to shut them up) and its very important that melbourne wins one of his early games without the game riding on his shoulders so he can keep enjoying footy.
  23. most definitely agree. a solid season this year should see him take over next, even before the retirement of macca. he bleeds red and blue; this man and has a heart that will inspire. the kind of guy that could get us a flag in four/five years time.
  24. i'd rather see petterd involved than newton; petterd has done enough to warrants time on the ground. so many half players still need to earn a spot in the afl side, rather than being gifted it. juice is the most obvious. if he kicked six for the scorps; you'd get no arguement from me. on a side note; pj needs a drop to the magoos to run out as a four quarter ruckman. when he can run for a whole game there (not just amble 5 metres off his opponent) and show a proactive mind when he's not in possession, he will deserve another go. until then, blood the young fellas and let them learn how far it is to the top.
