Jack Grimes

Jaded, I hope he does as he deserves one.

One the stats thing though, he does play off half back in a side which does tend to have it in its defensive half a hell of a lot of the time! This helps a bit.

Side note: One more one eyed Dees supporter. Born Thursday morning at 7.40am, Phoebe Mae. I brought her and my wife home today and had my new daughter on my chest throughout the match. I introduced her to the Dee's and I didn't get up to smash a thing!

Congrats and hopefully Phoebe will see them back in the finals before too long.

By the way, the fact that he's played less than 10 games is a weird excuse when we're talking about his performance in the context of the Rising Star - no other Rising Star contenders have played significantly more senior footy.

Regarding playing in a 'backline under siege', someone made a decent point regarding it giving him opportunity to find the footy more than he might have otherwise. While it does mean he's under pressure at times, many of his errors have been unforced (two in a couple of minutes v Ess at TD in the third quarter spring to mind).

DB highlighted Davey's elite foot skills following the Brisbane game. Either the DE stat is useless without context or DB should have been highlighting Grimes as our elite ball-user. I know which one I'm leaning towards.

In a similar vein, I see you mention the fact that Morton turned it over a bit last year. I haven't been able to find his DE from '08 (which site has DE stats from previous seasons?) but from memory, a couple of people who last year contended that Morton was using the ball very well relied on his flattering DE%.

So I'm guessing you don't think he deserves any nomination this week?

The way I see it, yes he has made some costly mistakes (and this has to and hopefully will change), but honestly I really don't find that particularly surprising, nor concerning from someone of his experience (especially when those with a hell of a lot more are just as bad). This is not an argument for the Rising Star nomination, because I really have no idea what boxes these kids have to tick to get picked (although not being part of this particular Melbourne side would probably be a good start), but you would hope that he is in calculations for one sooner or later.

But he is a shining light for us (intermittent crappy disposal included), and I would have hoped most thought that way  !!!

Thanks Redleg,

Yeah hopefully by the time she's old enough to understand whats going on we'll be defending the flag for the 2nd time!

Congratulations Territory  !!!

Thanks QueenC.

So I'm guessing you don't think he deserves any nomination this week?

Not on the past two weeks form, no, for this reason:

The way I see it, yes he has made some costly mistakes (and this has to and hopefully will change)

Indeed, and I'm sure there are other kids that have been in better form at this moment in time.

you would hope that he is in calculations for one sooner or later.

For sure. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get a nomination this year.

But he is a shining light for us (intermittent crappy disposal included), and I would have hoped most thought that way  !!!

I agree. As I said earlier in the thread, I think he'll be a player.

Rising Star nominations are about as meaningful as the award thats voted by umpires.

Grimes would have to be one of the best young players I have seen at Melbourne.

His Kicking, composure, footy smarts, and hard running is amazing.

17 kicks, 12 handballs, 16 marks and 5 tackles

Even more important was his last quarter performance. When they were coming at us this kid stood up big time.

Yeah, he'll certainly get it this week. A great game. Hopefully, we'll see him more in the midfield, over the coming weeks. Although, he's doing rather nicely at the back. He certainly played the general's role today.

This was much more significant than merely a balltearing game by Grimes.

Or that he stood up in the last quarter when it mattered most.

Or that he took the kickouts all day with NO CLANGERS.

But we now have two Daveys - one to play back, one to play forward.

One day this guy will be captain

Only heard the game on the radio, but just loved the sound of his game. Love young Jack, leadership potential written all over him.

Great game Jack Grimes and a future captain. Loved Liam Jurrah's grit too.

What I hated most though was the fact, when Jimma is facing his greatest crisis, we could only attract just over 23K to the 'G.

I was in the AFL members, and was gladdened by opposition supporters, who came with their colours on to support Jimmy. It seems, the best we can do as MFC supporters, is to ramp up the stereotype..........that is........we are soft.

If we can't do it for Jimmy, then who can we do it for?

I am totally disgusted.

I havent checked yet, but is this an actual stat??

There were a couple of poor disposals, and by a couple I literally mean 2 maybe 3.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
