Who will take on 'Buddy' this week?

Franklin is due for a big game. If Garland was available, I'd imagine he'd be the man. Frawley could be an inclusion if passed fit, he's playing much better and would be interesting to see him be opposed to Franklin. Martin could be it if Frawley is not in. He covers the ground very quick, as does Franklin.

I'm tipping Warnock for Roughead.

Rioli the magician. Wheels could be the man for him. Maybe Bennell if in.

Your thoughts?

Stef Martin on Buddy

Even with Chip in I would have Warnock on Roughy and Martin on Buddy. Chip playing the loose man, dropping back and runnning out.

Rioli will be a real problem, I would probably start with Bennell and try Whelan on him while Bennell is resting.

Another player worth stopping is Bateman, Bartram is the obvious choice, he must be stopped.

If Chip was In the side this week, i would say he gets a chance on buddy. He has the pace to match him, and has improved his body over the preseason, my thoughts are that he'd be a good match up on Buddy. However with him out, young Stef Martin would have to be the main contender with his massive leap and also firing pace. Warnock on Roughy, and Whelan or Grimes running off Williams. My thoughts are a close game this week if Millz and Robbo can fire.

Warnock on Franklin

Martin on Roughead

Whelan on Rioli

Frawley on Williams (subject to fitness)

*If Frawley doesn't come up for the match I'd expect Cheney to get Williams.

I can't see Warnock playing on Franklin, when Franklin pushes up the ground. Better that Warnock stays closer to goals. Therefore on Roughead.

So....Martin for Franklin and a ruckman IN. Or Frawley comes in and Martin and Johnson rotate in the ruck.

Whelan to Rioli.

Cheney to Williams.

EDIT - Frawley for Williams, if IN.

My tip would be:

Martin to Buddy, Warnock to Roughead, Cheney or Grimes on Williams, Bartram first crack at Rioli with Whelan back up (should Bartram be needed to do a tag in the midfield on possibly Bateman).

Warnock should get Roughead. Martin to Franklin.

Possibly Bruce to Williams - I'd back him to get the biscuits in that duel.

Bartram and McDonald will probably get Rioli and Bateman (interchangeable).

Probably have to go head to head with the other match-ups for the start at least.

Martin will probably get Buddy but I'd love to see Warnock have a shot on Buddy as well along with Frawley if he plays.

Warnock will probably get Roughead primarily.

I'd love to see a Davey V Rioli battle.

Davey on rioli would be delicious!!! but i think they will try to tag him out! or even bateman on davey would be good. Also considering it is indigenous round...

Bennel on rioli would be great!

I thin martin v buddy would be a good match up. i think martin has the speed and agility to almost match franklin. Warnock is better close to goal..

We will need a loose man to float in front of roughy and buddy... Green might get the go or maybe even petterd could do this role!

I'm more concerned about Williams than Buddy, because we don't have an obvious match-up, and he's destroyed us in the past:

Franklin - Martin

Roughhead - Warnock

Williams - Frawley if fit, otherwise Cheney

Rioli - Grimes

Bateman - Bartram

Mitchell - Bruce

I wouldn't want Green to go back, but I reckon the loose man role would be best suited to Bruce.

Some people might not agree but I think Bruce plays best in those sorts of positions

I think our only hope with lance is either someone has a "somewhat confrontation" with him in the carpark pre-game or else use transendental Meditation on him to make him believe he is in fact living out his childhood fantasy, by playing for THE DEMONS. One of there Forwards is going to kick a lot of goals-too many options unless the supply is dried.

Whelan may go to Williams.

I wouldn't mind seeing Grimes, because I think he's an excellent reader of the ball/play, helping out on Franklin with Martin manning him - how's Rivers going?

Warnock to Roughead.

Bartram to start on Rioli?

A lot of tough matchups, especially without Rivers and Garland

This IMO is where Rivers comes back in to play that supportive lose man back to give a chop out.

I reckon either Frawley, or Whelans hardness could be very helpfull against Williams. If not maybe Grimes.

I like Bartram or Cheney for Rioli.

I like Warnock for Buddy inside the 50arc with Dunn or someone tall, quick & agile to pick him up upfield.

Martin could be good for Roughy.

Rivers down there would be usefull.

Agree with Mo in that Williams is far more effective and consistent

Have to be in the top 5 kicks for goal in the AFL IMO

Buddy is far below expectations from last year although his upside is awesome

Bell in with orders to smash williams, run off him, and kick goals from 60m out.

I'm gonna thrash this son of a sheep farmer home.

Go Belly!

It's a funny thing. I was watching a Hawthorn game a few weeks ago and heard the comment from some idiot in the box that he'd never seen someone keep Buddy quiet so well. This while Franklin lined up for his 3rd goal. Now I could be wrong, but didn't Warnock keep him to 1 last year?

So, for my vote I say let Warnock slap the little [censored] all over the park again.

Roughhead goes to Martin more or less by default, although it's a very good matchup for us.

I think Rioli might be too fast for Wheelan or Bennell. Not sure who we have with enough pace to go with him. Perhaps put Davey on the half back flank?

Wheelan to take Williams to the cleaners. Bennell to sub with him.

I'd also like to see Green playing in the forward line on Hodge. He's got the defensive skills to keep Hodge from creating, and his marking and accurate kicking mean that Hodge can't afford to leave him.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
