its good that we're playing carlton in rd 21 and 22 respectively so we dont have the heartache of losing a priority pick like we did against carlton a few years ago.we'll win exactly 4. we'll beat west coast, richmond and fremantle. port will beat us at the mcg. thats our only scare.

Round 14-v-West Coast

Round 20-v-Fremantle

And we'll beat either Richmond or North Melbourne. We'll also have close calls against Collingwood round 11, Essendon round 12 and Port Adelaide round 15. We'll win exactly 4!

Round 14 MCG -West Coast

Round 20 MCG - Fremantle

That's all.

There is no way the club will allow > 4

Hard part with all this is keeping a large number of fans interested enough to want to keep turning up to games. Sponsors want wins (Bang For Bucks) a very fine balancing act.

I will be so glad when the next draft is over & this club can just put "the pedal to the Metal" & go for it.

If anyone thinks we wont get picks 1 and 2 this year well they are showing no respect to Bailey.

There is no way he and the club will allow us to win more than 4 game. WONT HAPPEN.

That thought did cross my mind during the last few minutes of last sundays game with Jones & Davey on the bench.

I think we will win every single game from here on in and finish the season 16-6 and continue that form all the way through September to ultimately claim our long awaited 13th premiership.

How does that sound? Might mess with our draft picks a little I know.

Seriously, every day there seems to be a thread on the number of wins we will achieve.

People fall into one of two camps.

1 - we could win more than more than four but the club wont be stupid enough to do that.

2 - we arent good enough to win more than four so it doesnt matter.

That's about it.

I agree but Richmond are very ordinary and we might end up with picks 1 and 3.

Games i expect to win:

Rd 14 vs WC at the G

Rd 20 vs Freo at the G

Possibilities (about a 35-50% chance of winning IMO):

Rd 11 vs Coll at the G

Rd 12 vs Ess at Etihad

Rd 15 vs PA at the G

Rd 18 vs Rich at the G

Rd 19 vs North at Etihad

So as you can see there are a fair few games we are going into with a fair good shot of winning.

Im tipping we will end up with 4 wins, beating both WC and Freo, with another game from the possibilities list.

Hopefully no more then 4!

Essendon will beat us. Other than that, I think you're about right M2W. WC and Freo should be beatable at the G, which gives us 3. The fourth is likely to come from one of Collingwood or Richmond. Port really should beat us, and we never play well at Etihad, which gives North a head start.

Sydney's very up and down at the moment, but we don't travel well.

We aren't a chance in the rest of them.

We all know the importance to the club of securing the priority pick and IMO the tanking issue is an indictment on the game and the integrity of the competition. I think its a sickening aspect of the sport that we as supporters of a club are placed in a position where we're virtually indifferent to the success of the team on a weekly basis. Hopefully, this sort of rubbish will come to an end soon and we won't be affected by it beyond this year.

On what I've seen of the team this year I believe we have the capability to finish the season off well barring a continuing run of injuries to key players. Six or seven wins would not be an unreasonable expectation and would set us up well as a springboard for continuing improvement. If we win less than that it would be a disappointment but I would begrudgingly accept the priority pick if we happened to win four games or less.

the bottom 4 should just be raffled, nba style. that way none of the bottom 4 clubs tank. And some may say that you might tank to get into the bottom 4 but thats silly because if your not in the bottom 4, you're often just out of the finals. It would solve all the problems

That's a top idea Freak.

I wonder why the AFL haven't taken that approach ? I guess "tanking" is relatively new to the game.

I am afraid that we will win 5 or more. That's my gut feeling anyway. Our skills are the only thing letting us down at the moment.

I hate the idea of tanking like everyone else but I would love to get the top two picks this year. Especially with the Gold Coast team coming in. Seems like tanking is the logical option for sustained success in the coming years.

I know how you feel, none of us like hoping Melbourne loose most weeks, however at the same time we've got a real opportunity to snare two young starsnjust before the next few drafts become compromised which could set us up for a real tilt at a premiership in 3 years or so. I hate to say it but I hope we do only win the 4, sure I think we're capable of winning about 6, but I think if we get picks 1 & 2 we'll be a real force in years to come.

winning 4.5-7 games this year is the worst possible result. 8-10 and a winning culture starts. 4 wins = the biggest prize finishing outside of the top 4. sitting with one win at this stage means that 8 wins is effectively out of reach therefore we have to have a target for the rest of the year i.e., <4.5 wins.

Honourable losses like sunday will just do us fine. I could even accept a 1 goal loss v the filth for the greater good. I think penciling in freo for a win at the G is a little prem as they are a lot better then most give them credit.

the freo+westcoast+rich games may well go down as reason(s) to change rules for future years ala collingwood's effort a few years ago. Therefore it is the next 2 months we have to look forward to, the MFC will have a real crack at upsetting the apple cart in the middle of the year before putting us out to stud in the top paddock for the rest of the season. I would not be supprised to see rich give us a touch up like we did to carltank in the crusier cup. likewise freo and westcoast will both have more then 4 wins by this stage therefore will have a lot more to play for in terms of winning.

Then the real stuff starts for us!

We were so naively honourable v. Carlton in rnd. 22 2007, despite advice from this forum as early as May that year.

We MUST NOT make that blunder again!

Yes it's not often that a 2nd chance is presented so quickly after the first.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
