Hmm, having played so well for 3 weeks, this last quarter could undo a lot of our good work.

Yeah, it's a shame that this quarter will be the last thing our players experience before the start of the season.

After such a morale-boosting win against the Lions away from home, this seems like a really bad way to finish off a pre-season campaign.

Hopefully this doesn't take away from any confidence we've built in the last 3 weeks.

I don't think it will. I think we have shown enough over the last month to suggest we will be a much more competitive side in 09. This is the second game in a row in very poor conditions and this time around it's against a full strength Doggies outfit who are pencilled in for a Top 4 finish. I'm disappointed we fell away in the last as badly as we did, but I don't think one quarter will take away all the good work we have done. We will get back some handy players by Round 1 and enter that game refreshed after a weeks break. Many more positives than negatives this time around!

Bulldogs 14.17.101 to Demons 10.3.63

No excuses but the wind and rain helped the Dogs. The wind swung around and it suddenly became impossible to score at our end.

Aaron Davey also came off with a foot injury.

Disappointing end to a close game.

We had a midfield that worked hard and a defence that combined well but the forward line was virtually non existent.

To top things off Redleg's horse was just beaten in the Guineas at Randwick.

Certainly this is a much better pre season than 2008. But to have three weeks where we were competitive and the margin was close all game, then to finish it off with this effort, I get the feeling that the players will have this match as a lasting image over the previous three. It would have been better to have had this result first, then the three better games as the lead up to Round 1.

I agree in some respects, but I like to think that the players will look back on 08 and realise that we HAVE improved considerably through this pre-season. As WJ mentioned above the conditions in the last didn't help us and we caved. That's still going to happen with a young side. Like us I have no doubt they will be very disappointed with their finish to this game, but I still believe they can take plenty of confidence into Round 1.

To anyone who was there, who was out better ruckman - Spencer of Meesen?

Every week we say this. How can we fix this problem?

I don't think there is a quick fix. Watts and Jurrah are a long way off. You would like to think Miller and Bate would be our two key forwards with PJ resting up there, with Aussie at their feet. Sylvia will play as a small forward and possibly the likes of Green and Bruce will rotate through there as well. It's not pretty though and I think we can all agree there will plenty of games this year where we struggle to kick a score.

Thank you for the updates.

Hopefully Petterd and Davey are not seriously injured and will be right to go in 2 weeks time.

I'm sure all of us are looking forward to read your match report.

By the way, can we get confirmation that one Jared Rivers played our the game and did NOT get injured? :o

Thanks WJ and twist for the updates.

I am not concerned at all. As the guys at the game said, the conditions were in the Dogs favour in the last 1/4. Remember, they were full strength and we had a half dozen out, Grimes a late exclusion on top of that. You would expect the dogs to be at least a 4 or 5 goal better team than us and they probably are! Interested to hear a report on who was in form and who wasnt!

Bring on the real stuff!

Agree with that.

I would love to know where Maric is at. He trained apparently a week ago so hopefully he can push for a spot not too late into the season proper. We need a sharp shooter and he looks like a player with nouse to me who can get away from an opponent.

I was there till 3 quater time and clearly Spencer was our best ruckman, conditions didnt suit the talls yet felt Meesen looked alot better that what i have seen and read in previous posts

Well, getting within 3 goals was probably too optimistic at this stage but look where both teams are at!!!

Bulldogs are top 4 and we are basically starting from scratch, how many players with less than 30 games do we have? Plenty.

We played well for 3 quarters and our 4 quarter game will come with experience.

The worst is behind us and there is huge upside in the coming years.

Having said all that,i reckon we'll beat the Kangas in Rd. 1.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
