You clearly missed the point of my last post. Let me spell it out for you:

These one-line jibes that have begun to get thrown in my direction do not bother me. Nor do they add anything to the debate.

All any of you acheive by indulging yourselves in this sort of taunting, is to make yourselves look childish and to make yourselves look like you have comprehensively lost an argument.

If you and others like you, no longer wish to discuss the sponsorship situation and would instead prefer to spend your time sniping at me, then I suggest you start a thread about me in the general section. It would probably be in breach of the code of conduct but, so low is the esteem in which I regard your opinions, I would not be moved to complain.

cheers

your not the full quid.

I have found this discussion fascinating, but I have not found it to be constructive.

What are we learning from this, how can our club improve?

Hazy, you clearly have an understanding of the issues, how can you best put that knowledge to use?

I tired to spell it out for you in "grown-up" language, but apparently to no avail. Allow me to make another attempt in terms that you are no doubt better aquainted with:

"I know you are, you said you are, but what am I?"

That's a great question 45hotgod - you should start a thread on it.

Why would it need a separate thread? I've asked you directly

Yes, I appreciate that, but your question is not really relevant is it? I mean, the Hankook sporsorship is a done deal so asking how we can improve as a club in terms of the Hankook deal is a bit of a tricky question.

If you mean how can the club improve generally then that is a question for another thread. However, at the risk of going too far off-topic, I will indulge you a little and say that a full and frank self-appraisal is important for any improvement, and that in order for one to learn from one's mistakes, it is first necessary for one to admit that one has made them.

It is for this reason that I fervently hope that Jim and his team don't rate their performance on sponsorship as highly as most people on here seem to - particularly because there are concerns surrounding the acocuntablilty of the board both internally (because they are mates) and externally (because supporters are apparently eager to make excuses for them- possibly on the basis of Jim's celebrity). But then, like I said, this is really a discussion for another thread.

Fair enough.

I must say, I personally don't agree with what you're arguing, but the way you carry it is very respectable.

Hopefully the club can always learn to grow into a bigger and better entity, one that is accountable both in terms of performance and finances

I can today confirm Melbourne Football Club have rejected a deal from Thaibev company Chang Beer worth $1AUD over 4 years for the Shirt Back corp. sponsorship.

More news as I'm told.

Melbourne wanted more money and didn't want a Thai company as a major sponsor unless the money was really there. Same as the Mission deal apparently.

So have they sacked the guy in charge of sponsorships or not?

Is this Hazy tilting at windmills or is he onto something?

Funny thing to do if the Hankook deal is the triumph most seem to think it is.

A new deal is imminent.

Not a second, third or fourth tier sponsor, but one that will add cache to the club. If it comes off.......and it should.....another may jump on.

If that happens, then some on this forum may be laughing on the other side of their faces.

Rather than showing discord to potential sponsors, maybe......at least for a couple of weeks.....it might be worth our while to swallow our pride and just show what a united team.....supporters included.......we really are.

However right or justified some feel on this forum, right now they could be causing irreperable damage.

Just think of the message we all got last week on this very forum from Hankook. Anybody can join this forum and don't forget that.

Chang Beer is Great! I drink it all the time, Both here and when i visit Thailand. I would have loved to see the chang logo on our jumper, but the money has to be right.

Hey i'va, if you actually have any info on this issue, maybe you could do me a favour and confirm the sacking I mentioned to Rflowerwing?

Anyway, glad to hear that you guys will be swallowing your pride and showing that we are a united team, united in our demands for accountability and in our rejection of mediocrity on and off the field.

The last thing Jim needs is more excuses - I can see it now:

"The second sponsorship would've been more if it hadn't been for Hazyshadeofgrinter and his criticism on Demonland"

P.S. Nobody's laughing

Dear rabid Jim supporters,

If the very welcome but nevertheless very late, tier-3, $700k/year Hankook minor sponsorship is such a great deal, why has the club sacked its Commercial Operations Director who has overall charge of the Partners and Corporate areas of the club? This is the area responsible for identifying and securing sponsors.

And does it make sense to sack Brad whilst the back of jumper "major co-sponsorship" is still up in the air?

I'm interested to know - who exactly was sacked and when?

As of November John Poulakakis has been MFC's Chief Commercial Officer and then in December Matthew Green joined as Chief Operating Officer.

I'd be interested to know which of these 2, if any, have been fired. I'm also not sure which one would be held responsible for what you're talking about.

Either way, Hazy, I don't necessarily agree with you, but I don't disagree either & you seem to have a strong grasp of the situation.

Too much arguing for me to properly read the thread, but I have to admire the fire in your belly.

I received a generic email from the club signed by "John Poulakakis Cheif (sic) Commercial Officer, MELBOURNEfc" outlining the Hankook sponsorship and membership benefits etc so it's not him.

It is my understanding that Commercial Operations Director Brad Rowse, has been given the sack. Brad was in charge of the "Partners and Corporate" section of the club, which is the area responsible for identifying and securing sponsors. Brad's position is still listed on the club website here. I do not know when the club plans to publicly announce this sacking, but I can think of a couple of reasons why they might want to keep it quiet for a while.

P.S. I empathise about the large amounts of "arguing" (perhaps "squabbling" would be more appropriate?). It no doubt contirbutes to the apparent "fire in the belly"!

Hazy, without shooting down your 'understanding', where did you get this information?

And are you sure that he has been 'sacked'.

On another note, how much did everyone want to be 'The One' to announce this on these forums?

Kudos to Yze Magic who beat us all to it! ;)

Someone told me this morning that they were listening to 3AW last night and Stynes was on. He said something about more offers coming in since the Hankook deal was announced, and that the other sponsor is likely to be announced earlier that the club had previously anticipated.

I don't know if anyone else heard this interview.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
