Good on him.

I hope this means he got a sniff of interest. Maybe the bombers will give him a run - he was an Essendon kid once upon a time.

And I hope he does well if he gets picked up... but not too well!

I certainly wouldn't be booing him.

Who would pick him up? No way would Matthew Knights take up a 31 year old.

I would have thought that Carlton would have been the most likely type, but they will be taking C.J

Do you think that Richmond think they are close enough to take a chance?

Of course not. In his last two years he tarnished his reputation somewhat, but he remains a champion of this club.

Nobody will boo him, but it is a shame that some sportsmen can't just retire gracefully, before they fall so spectacularly from grace.

you cant boo yze, cos it just sounds like "ooooze" anyway

haha very good point!

First time i went to see him play i didn't get the whole 'ooze' chant & was perplexed cos i though he was getting booed.

Essendon could be a chance. Knights did say that they would be prepared to look at an experienced player with their predominantly young list.

Agree. A perfect example of a player that does not know when its over.

I am not sure what value Yze would add to a young list. He wont be a leader down at the Club and on field he does not lead by example.

If Yze were to be picked up (which seems very unlikely), I would think Brisbane are the more likely fit. Voss reportedly is after an experienced goal-kicking half forward/forward pocket and has (again reportedly) gone cold on Nick Davis.

From an age perspective, I would say that a 31 year old Yze probably has as much left in the tank as a 28 year old Davis simply due to his professionalism. And he demonstrated that with his attitude (as described by Andy Lovell) when he was with Sandringham.

There's no doubting Yze's professionalism, and for that reason I'd look at him ahead of Davis if I were another club, but the game's passed him now.

Personally I think it would be a little undignifying watching him round around the twos all year for some other club, but if he's prepared to deal with that if it happens, then best of luck to him. If I were Yze, I'd be looking for a job and a club in a lower grade to have a kick with.

Ever heard of the saying "never die wondering". He loves footy, he probably knows he won't be picked up, but at least this gives him closure.

Well said. Who would have thought that a fat Stewie Dew, who'd been out of football for 12 months, would have the impact that he had.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brisbane pick him up.

Best of luck to Ooze, he was a great servant of the MFC and given the right circumstances i think he could make a real contribution to an AFL list.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
