Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would focus more on the brand 'the Demons', rather than the name 'Melbourne'.

Gardiner and that CEO in about 2003 did this many years ago and it was an absolute failure.

There's a reason the Pies, the Hawks, the Blues and the Bombers all have many more supporters across the country than we do - and, ironically, probably within Melbourne too.

Perhaps we could join forces with the boys in blue.

They can drive a divvy van around at 1/2 time looking for potential D&D candidates.

While the supporters find their voices by reclaiming classics like "your going home in the back of a divvy van"

And "what's the colour of a two cent coin?" Ect.

Maybe an old Holden can be installed behind the goal posts for one lucky winner to beep the horn at every goal.

Food for thought.

Sorry to be pain RB but IMO it has nothing to do with the Demons, Dees or Melbourne.

It is all about winning Games and Flags over the last thirty years.

i still love the game OD

Just give me the Reserves Game before and turn OFF the music between quarters

So i can talk about what i have just seen to my dad or mates.

If i want music i will rock out to a niteclub

Hallelujah!

A visionary, hindsight perhaps but still a visionary.

One change to that. Start with the under 19's.

& NO MUSIC!

How many flags have the Pies won over the last 35 years? 2? How many members do they have right now? 63721 in January...even if 20000 are bulltish, it's still 40000 members. What do they do differently?

Have a look at the total number of games won over that period.

On top of that two flags vs zero

I will take the Pies success to the MFC over the last half century ever day of the week.

So would I, so why do they have more members than the Cats or even Hawks?

I cannot explain it, seriously, i want to know their formula.

Part traditional and part success , part they breed more.

I cannot remember the figures but I don't think they are much different to the hawks now.

Geelong are lower because while their ground is a gold mine it is a handicap when it comes to members.

It restricts the number of members you can get into the ground.

Why be a member if it is difficult / impossible to attend a home game.

Just watch on TV and attend the odd game in Melbourne.

Only 68000 odd measly members for the Hawks last year, they already have 60000 odd as of now. Probably wont get a heap more, they don't have members that "wait and see" what the season will bring before signing, they already know.

Demons not Dees....that latter abbreviation is insipid and drives me mad.

It probably costs small fortune in gas and safety management to do it, but I think it would be worth it.

Being the 'Demons', maybe we could have some sort of hellish fire-breathing spectacle for the players to run out through.

If it all goes well, it would enhance our claim for more night matches as well - which is good for viewing and revenue.

Filled up with air it's very evil and impressive. We salute you, our half inflated Dark Lord!

They definitely need to bring back the pregame game, whether it's the under 18's, reserves or the women's teams. Went to the Dees Dogs game last year excited to finaly see some footy being played before the main game, was shattered to find out it started at some ridiculous time like 10am

I vaguely remember reading an article a long time ago when we first were pushing into China that we were moving away from he Demons and using Melbourne more as demons were considered bad in Chinese culture. I remember being disgusted that we were dropping the demon for the chance at making money abroad

Would not want to lose Melbourne (our true heritage) as it ties us to the place and decreases relocation so should always reference Melbourne Demons.

Demons is the abbreviated marketing term matching symbols Hawks Bombers Bulldogs etc and was particularly important in establishing visual brands for Crows and Eagles etc as interstate teams were added

Its interesting that these marketing symbols are often abbreviated as well Pies, Dogs so Dees is the natural extension of the Australian common vernacular heritage which is economy of language.

I have also posited previously that it lends itself to a distinctive cheering cry. GO DEES can be syncopated into a number of rhythms and can be used to convey pace expressively.

AFL are also reporting the MCG's going to install lighting outside, which can all be changed to display home team colours etc. The short video shows an example in red and blue! Reckon it would look great for our home games!

lighting, wow, that'll be good for our one home night game for the year!

There is nothing wrong with the abbreviation 'Dees'. I like it and it's something we should associate more with the club.

On idea I had and this is more for the younger brigade (sorry old dee), is to have a New era cap with 'Dees' on it, would probably sell well.

I am sure it has already been raised, but I would like to see the MFC try and do something along the lines of what Liverpool do pre-game (and what Port have started doing themselves more recently).

I was at the 'G for this in 2013...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDCiNGYfhPY

...and it was absolutely spine tingling stuff.

Be amazing if we could emulate that in some way.

Would just need to find an appropriate song/anthem to belt out.

My suggestion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8KQmps-Sog

Rise up and take the power back
It's time the fat cats had a heart attack
You know that their time's coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend :)
(so come on)

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Have skimmed through this so may be repeating but if we are to have music booming out why cannot it be Australian?

I am distressed when I see bogans clad in flags on Australia Day but we can be justifiably proud of our outrageously good bands.

A set sequence of building intensity to the bounce of immortal songs that belong to us.

Would 'Our Kylie' singing I Should Be So Lucky do it for you obbafan? Maybe Joe Dolce doing Shuduppa Ya Face?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
