2nd round will be pick 20. Maybe slightly high but Carlton will want something good for Yarran like MFC would for Watts.

Yarran + Carlton's 2nd round pick (pick 28) for Fitzy, MFC second (20) and third pick (40).

I believe our 2nd round pick will probably be 18 or 19 and our third 35 or 36. Adelaide are out for two rounds and Ess may not be in this draft at all.

Currently we have Watts supposedly being heavily courted by Malthouse & the blues.

We have a team that is in desperate need of midfield talent.

I am also of the opinion that you have to give something to get something.

So would you be for a trade that might look like this?

Melbourne: Watts, Fitzpatrick & pick 20

Blues: Gibbs, Yarran

My feeling is that Gibbs has had another just year & probably will never be the midfield gun that the Blues wanted. He would however be another B+ mid in a good age bracket that would contribute immediately to Jones & Viney.

Yarran for all his flaws still has a huge upside and could either be used as a running defender or small forward both positions we desperately need talent.

Admittedly we lose two significant key forwards but with Dawes, Hogan, Clark we have depth. We may also then select Boyd if we get the PP.

They'd be significant gets for Carlton. I think we could do better than that deal. Maybe a later pick if it really needs a sweetener.

That's way too much IMO. It's too heavily in their favour.

And whilst we have some good talls, I don't think it'd be particularly wise to trade Watts AND Fitzpatrick.

Well you're very short sighted if that's the case.

Chris Yarran has more football talent then the majority of our list squeezed in one.

He is an A grade skilled footballer, pure bread and as it happens, only this year has his form dropped and there's been speculation about his relationship with Mick and hence his future and what do you know, posters like you bob up and say that he can't change, when in fact there is nothing to change. He is just in need of some inspiration and more development in a couple of areas.

Yarran's positive attributes far outweigh his negative ones presently and this is while he is having one bad year. Haha. Wow.

'steve', I don't think he has had a real breakout year. He's had breakout patches, it looked like they found the best use for him off HB until opposition coaches found that he couldn't play one on one. He's a no for me unless we pick him up cheap.

Melbourne won't give up Watts and Fitz for sure. They probably won't hand over either imho. Yarran and Gibbs are worth something, but Carlton's predicament is that they are trading smalls. Unless elite, you get a second round pick at best.

You go after a tall from another team, you pay overs. Big time!

It's surprising nobody has picked this up. But, the draft picks are way too prized in most people's eyes. Think of how long it took to develop Fitz and Watts's strength, fitness and size to be competitive at AFL level. 4 years. You want to start again with a promising kid from the draft? Both Watts and Fitz have their best footy in front of them, not behind them. The same can't be said about Yarran and Gibbs. I'd argue both are going backwards because they rely on pace.

Carlton, keep Yarran and Gibbs. We'll hang onto our draft picks and tall's and we'll see you on the ground next year with the most dangerous forward line in the league... (Dawes, Clark, Hogan, Watts, Fitzy back up). We'll see how much blood your mosquito forward line can spill.

C'mon pal. The guy has a sublime set of skills, and as rjay has alluded to below, he almost has the same weaknesses as Watts to work on.

There would be people out there in the football world who could develop and address the two ingredients that these two are missing.

Work ethic and playing with a sense of urgency and intensity. If we are going to poach and employ the 'best' people to take this club forward from here on in, (which is what PJ consistently tells us) I would have no problems in trading for Yarran.

Watts has better foot skills, a better mark, a bigger frame and FAR more potential upside than Yarran.

Plus he is arguably our most marketable player.... kids love him.
