Thank you Kate. You’ll always be remembered as the President who took us out of the wilderness after 57 years.60 points

I do hope that it's not lost on anyone the significant role she's played not only in helping win the flag in 2021, but guiding the club through a number of significant challenges off the field since she took over. While i agree it was the right time for her to go i definitely would want to acknowledge the role she's played and the positive impact she's had!47 points

I reckon without Kate with the backing of the Board to change its leadership early in 2021 we would not have the Premiership. The club would have laboured under the heavy cloud of a Board leader that wanted to get rid of our coach. For that alone she deserves our eternal thanks. She has represented us very well and the odd slip up means diddly squat. She has brought us stability and engineered a clean entry and exit from her role leading the Board. That is a pretty good track record, in my book.22 points

She delivered the premiership but she never delivered the new facility. Ultimately that is why she joined the board. Green will only preside over the review and will hand the reins over afterwards.22 points

What trouble? She stepped aside without a fuss. She only has one year left on her term anyway. I think a good club and a good leader does just that. She saw us through some hard times and through some of the very best times, including 2 premierships, and financially we've never been in a better position. I think it was the right thing to do, but she has earnt my respect for what she did when she became president, and the gracious way in which she bowed out. I think from all the people on our board, he would be the most credentialed to lead a footy department review, having played the game, and also been involved at other clubs not just our own. At least we can be sure that he has the very best interests of our club at heart, and this is not some ego driven thing to retain his position.21 points

This is actually a great piece of media timing by the club, credit to them. 4.30pm on a Friday in the middle of the first week of finals. There's no better time to sweep the news under the carpet. Media and fans are focussed on the Port debacle and the game tonight.19 points

The club was a shambles in 2013 so to be part of the board that took the club from basket case to the flag is highly commendable. Thank you Kate.18 points

Good luck Kate Roffe, thank you for your 11 years service on our Board and for being our President at a crucial time in our History. The club delivered three premierships during your term as President, AFL, VFL and AFLW, that is a phenomenal success rate, we will be forever grateful to have celebrated this success with you. Good luck in all future endeavours.❤️💙💕16 points

Brad's a class act. If you read his statement, after the review of the Board he wants the Presidency to go back to a Board vote. He's a caretaker until that time. Steven Smith appointed then voted in as Chairman by the Board written all over this. Nice move, and given Trac's comments that misrepresented Roffey, I hope he's happy with himself. Well done Kate for your efforts for over a decade on the Board.16 points

Kate will be someone with the drought breaking flag next to her name and the first women’s flag for the club. Hard to go past that for a defining figure in the club in modern times. Moving on at the right time too, also a virtue. Without being accused of ‘signalling’ or playing with identities (for shame) - it’s also that much harder for a woman in this landscape and she navigated well. Mistakes were made, as they always are, but she bows out with grace and a decade of service to the club.14 points

It seems being president of a multi million dollar sporting organization that's been embroiled in constant legal drama for your entire tenure is a much much more difficult situation than it might seem on a fan forum. As i said earlier, i agree it was the right time for a change, but to suggest she's bailed out when it's gotten tough is a joke, it's been a nightmare for her entire tenure and she's kept us going through that. I think the highlighted section of your post sums your position up pretty well.13 points

I was told that we were getting Andrew Gaff a few years back by a friend with reasonable contacts and a good track record of supplying information. That not only turned out not to happen but apparently we never approached Gaff. I haven’t posted a rumour since. I have however posted a series of truly excellent posts which you can easily access in the Demonland back catalogue. Enjoy your day 🙋♂️13 points

I was going to [censored] can this proposal .... but now I fully support it. Why ..... because I just noticed Saty is opposed . I'd give up the booze before agreeing with Saty !!!11 points

Quite simple, step away from an unrewarding non paying role that comes with the accompanying garbage from media, pundits and some supporters. Thanks for all your efforts Kate11 points

Although I’ve been calling for change I agree with you. I particularly salute her role in development of our AFLW activity11 points

But it’s clearly not totally unsubstantiated. @goodwindees has a pretty impeccable track record with his mail. Getting the inside word on what’s happening within the four walls of the footy club is a big reason for a lot of people being on this site and the actual thing that beggars belief is why on earth anyone would want to censor that, or abuse anyone who’s providing that. Genuinely cannot for the life of me understand it. If you don’t like it then ignore it, like people do with a bunch of other topics and posts.11 points

Every well run sporting organization is constantly conducting reviews of its activities. The scrutiny involved can only be good as long as such reviews are carried out in an honest and objective manner - if done in that way it can only lead to improvement and a better organization in the long run. Assuming that such a review is to take place at Melbourne, what areas need to be covered by the review eg the President, Board, Administrative Staff, Football Staff, Playing Group - including performance and achievement and what period should it cover? Should the review be internal as I understand would be taking place routinely in any event, or by way of an independent external review? What information would such a review be based upon? I would expect verified facts and not hearsay removed three times, guesswork or supposition as we sometimes see in online discussions, the social media or even today’s professional media, some of which is more concerned wit garnering clicks than providing information or opinion. Please keep the discussion respectful - remember, such a review involves real people, with reputations and livelihoods, not to mention the fact that, in this case, it’s about the club we support and this site is all about supporting this club and its players.10 points

Operational and FD Jade. Green wanted this review from August 10 when I first mentioned it here and he got what he wanted. Rightly so.9 points

And of course, to Brad Green who I still vividly recall putting Carlton to the sword in a qualifying final in his first season and who showed great courage later in that finals series against Essendon, I wish you good luck in your new role. It’s a tough gig but you have what it takes to face up to everything the enemy puts in your way and I look forward to you taking us out of the wilderness next year 😀9 points

As previously mentioned, the guidelines regarding trade rumors on this website differ from those addressing more harmful and potentially libelous unsubstantiated claims. While unsubstantiated trade rumors may circulate, they are distinct from allegations about personal health, illegal activity, or other statements that could be considered defamatory. Demonland may, at times, choose to remove certain allegations, even those that may have a basis in truth, in order to protect the individuals involved. This decision is not taken lightly but reflects our commitment to maintaining a respectful and responsible community. Even if a rumor or allegation contains elements of truth, the potential harm it could cause to someone's reputation, privacy, or well-being is taken into consideration. It's important to note that the rules on Demonland have evolved and continue to remain flexible. Over the years, this platform has seen a number of posters who have proven reliable when it comes to trade news, and there are certain individuals whose information is held in higher regard by the community. However, even with credible sources, trade rumors should always be approached with caution, as circumstances can shift rapidly. Exercise your own discretion when evaluating the information shared here or on any other platform. The forum moderators are mindful of posters with a strong track record and will use our judgment to assess new trade rumors from other sources. If we believe a rumor is shared in bad faith, we will take appropriate action. However, we acknowledge that we are not infallible, and the rules may continue to change or be updated as needed.9 points

General Comments A review needs to be objective and stand up to scrutiny. Preferred review period: 2021 - 2024 Roles to Review CEO FD Management (incl Coaching) List Management Communications Management Methodology - Measurable Stuff Locate existing KPI’s (ie goals) for each role Locate 3 year performance for each KPI Identify performance gaps for each KPI Identify objective causes for those gaps Is the org structure appropriate Are the reporting lines/structure being adhered to There is a high probability the performance in most cases has met the KPI’s during those 3 years BUT the trend will be poor. eg Increased membership rose but has dropped off. Ladder position was high but has gradually dropped off. Perhaps similarly for sponsorships etc Methodology - Less/Non Measurable Stuff It is much harder to assess the ‘soft’ stuff like decision, relationships, standards, discontent, etc and will need to be assessed by interviewing staff. Hopefully, they are structured questionnaires that are tried and tested. An important area is 'external image' in the industry because that has such a critical affect on sponsorships, recruiting etc It would take to long to list the type of questions for each role to be reviewed. BUT Are they the right KPI’s What should the KPI’s be How will those KPI’s be measuerd Reviewer(s)? The recent trend has been for a panel of ex-footballers (Freo and Adelaide) to undertake it. I doubt they have the methodology for the above review. When Pert reviewed the FD at the end of 2020 he engaged an external person. I don't know if that was an AFL person or an outside consultant. To be fair, I thought the 2020 FD review was very good. It resulted in a more appropriate organisation structure and made some badly needed personnel changes. imv the error was the choice of personnel replacements .9 points

ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING PRESIDENCY AND BOARD RENEWAL PROCESS Melbourne Football Club President Kate Roffey has announced that she will hand over the reins as President to club legend Brad Green as part of a process of Board renewal. Roffey will step down as President effective immediately and will also vacate her position on the Board. Roffey, who joined the Melbourne Football Club Board in 2013 and has served as President since 2021 said she was sincerely grateful for all the support she has received throughout her tenure “As I finish up my incredible time with the Melbourne Football Club, I pass on my sincere thanks to all those who have supported me along the way – fellow Directors, CEO Gary Pert and the staff who work so tirelessly behind the scenes, our football department, in particular our Head Coaches Simon Goodwin and Mick Stinear, Footy Boss Alan Richardson, and our members, yes – especially the Mighty Demon Army,” said Roffey. “To the families of our players, thank you! "And of course, to the men and women who play for the red and the blue – by far the most rewarding part of a President’s role is having the opportunity to know you all and share a hug. “As always, I will be sitting in the stands cheering you on. “My best goes to everyone for the ongoing success of the Mighty Dees! Incoming Melbourne Football Club President Brad Green thanked Roffey for her outstanding leadership. "Kate’s legacy as President is outstanding and we owe her a debt of gratitude. She took over at a tumultuous time, brought great stability to the Board and backed our management team and football department to deliver premierships,” said Green. “Under Kate's Presidency, Melbourne has experienced record membership growth and won both an AFL and AFLW Premiership. Kate has overseen the delivery of strong financial results, as well as steering the Casey Fields development, and the creation of the club’s Future Fund. "As the first female President of Melbourne Football Club, Kate has etched her name among the great pioneers of our game. She loves our members and fans and always has them at the forefront of her decision making.” Green said he would lead a review of the Board aimed at resetting and refreshing its performance. “I am honoured to have been chosen as President by my colleagues and proud to continue to serve this great club which has given me so many opportunities in life. “I have told my colleagues that I will lead the review process and once it is completed I would like to give the Board the opportunity to vote again on the Presidency. “This will be a collaborative reset of the Board and it’s important that we are honest with each other about where we have succeeded, and where we could have done better. “There is no doubt that we need to turn the faith and belief of our members and fans into results and performance, and the Board stands at the top of that process. “We are united by a love for this footy club and I want to bring us all together as one red and blue force.”8 points

Pert is responsible for setting the culture of the club. Not only do we leak like sieve, we have clear discontent within the FD and playing group. Under PJ we did not leak. Surely, you can see the commercial impacts of continued leaks.8 points

So very true. I picked up a Herald Sun at my local cafe this morning and was staggered to find nothing in there from the usual snipers having a dig at our club. At least they will have Port Adelaide, Ken Hinkley and Charlie Dixon as their whipping boys over the next week.8 points

She's done a good job over an 11 year period as a board member. It's a different club from 2013 to now. Green is the right person to oversee the review, and maybe the right person for a longer term presidency. Time will tell.7 points

I think Trac will continue to explore his options no matter what we do as a club. Regardless, you do not let players make list management decisions for you.7 points

I believe Clayton definitely wants to stay, and I believe he will. It’s just that clubs realise that Dees want to change the way they play, and they’re just probing to see what the situation is with Clayton & CP. Let’s be clear, there’s many, many more discussions had than there are trades done.7 points
