  1. You really do deserve praise for your commitment to the club and the players. Very few attend as much as you do and imo it gives you every right to voice your opinions on all things to do with the club and maintain your strong defence of everything MFC. You go girl.

  2. Put on my Demons scarf around midday and hopped on the train to Jolimont. Big thanks to the people on the carriage who told me the game is tomorrow. It’s been one of those weeks, folks.

  3. Haha! Look that’s a valid question, but no I’m a guitar/keys player who’s really letting my crew down today. Gallows humour incoming: I spent a good chunk of my week at my Mum’s new aged care place helping her settle in. I texted my (football-averse) wife on my way back from “the game” today asking “Is Alzheimers contagious?” She replied “No babe, you’ve just got Dee-mentia”

  6. So 24 goals for Jefferson this year. 9 less than JVR in his first VFL year. He should kick more than JVRs 33, injury permitting.

  8. Greetings, fellow traveller of the backroads of google! Moths are amazing and grossly underappreciated. Back living in Canberra I'd go wandering on the hills, sometimes at night, and one of the most vivid visual memories I have is coming back past the War Memorial and one side of it having a curtain of bogong moths on the bare wall. Must have been about 2m vertically and five or six wide. Every soft movement of wind causes the whole curtain to ripple and rustle and shift colours in the dimmed floodlights facing the building. A completely hypnotic moment.

  11. This is not a good sign for Fullarton. We had our tallest forward out injured and the FD went instead with a 186cm forward, back after nearly a year out injured, without a Casey game, in preference to Fullarton, who is about 200cms and was traded in as a back up ruck/forward. Playing Fullarton would have allowed JVR to play solely forward and that would have been helpful to his game imo. There is no doubt that Melk is a better player than Fullarton, but we obviously didn’t go horses for courses. I am not arguing about the selection, but rather pointing out that Fullarton will struggle to get a game while Max is playing.

  13. Great question, I have seen every one of Jeffo's games live this year except for this one! Apart from one terrible day at Frankston, he has been steadily on the improve to such an extent that he now does a few things he has improved on since last last year A Actually calls for the footy with intent B Can take a pack mark CLUNK! C Is a deadly kick for goal for the most part D Second efforts have improved E Is smart with the footy and will dish of cleverly F Is developing some aggresion AND a little bit of a strut when he is Kicking goals! ONE OTHER THING... For the most part Caseys delivery into forward line is sporadic and sparse compared to better teams delivery which reflects our ladder position!

  25. Thanks for Posting. From a Caulfield point of view surprised that Retschko wasn’t mentioned as a classy wingman. Absolutely gobsmacked that Marlon Neocleous wasn’t listed. A very bottom age exciting small forward one to watch for the future.

  34. This performance by Casey just highlights our complete lack of depth. It is little wonder that we currently sit in the bottom half of the AFL ladder. It is why players not performing at AFL keep getting a game because there is nothing better or at least equal to replace them with. Our recruiting has fallen off a cliff. Not one of our signings from other clubs has been a positive, and there have been many. It is time to review the whole club, from the senior coach down. Otherwise we are headed back to those dark days again.

  40. Reid very often goes the Dusty fend off and we should be ready for it. The grabbing of his wrist and pulling it towards you, is possibly the best thing to do in this case, as it throws him off balance, stops him running away and forces a quick kick if he can manage it or htb or a ball up. All of which are better than him fending off and running away.

  41. This has nothing to do with the Melksham selection, but to say supporters have no clue with team selection advice is pretty funny considering some of the team selections this year already from the same coaches have been truly and utterly baffling in itself. You ask any AFL coach on team selection throughout the year and they'll be the first to admit that there are times where they have gotten selection wrong on a Thursday night. There have certainly been some with the Dees this year.

  44. We do tend to dwell on that draft quite a bit. Just had a look at Cal top 30 draft ratings a couple of weeks before the draft. He had Curnow one spot ahead of Sam at 8&9. This was a week before Curnow was done for drink driving and I think there was question marks over his attitude. Hipwood was 14 and Harry and Ben were 21&24. He also had Clayton Oliver at 11. We took him at pick 4. Cal had another tall in Josh Schache rated as the 4th best in the draft. Of course we with hindsight we would have been better taking one of those other talls before Sam but we also could have taken Schache instead of Oliver. In 2017 we picked Spargo at pick 29. Tom De Koning went the pick after. You can always look back and say we could have picked player x instead of player y, can’t always get them right and picking Sam seems to be in line with the player ratings at the time.

  45. If we want to look at stats, he's currently equal seventh in the VFL goalkicking with 21. The leader is on 25 (with an extra game). I'm not sure how the 'best player' voting works, but the only Casey player with more games in the 'best' is Mitch White (9). Jeffo is equal with Laurie on 7. For reference, JVR kicked 33 from 18 games in 2022, finishing in the 'best player' 6 times. Jeffo is on pace to match that output, albeit in his second year.

  46. Proud to say I have never once questioned Jefferson's development. Learnt a big lesson from when I thought Judd McVee was a certainty to be delisted after watching him at Casey in his first year. Thought it was a joke we gave him another year.. egg on my face now but since then I've reserved judgement on the likes of Jefferson and Adams because it just takes time and patience is needed. People forget that not everyone develops at a Nick Daicos level and everyone is different in terms of speed of development.

  47. Fair points HD. I apologise for my snideness and any implication you don't turn up for games and support the club. At the risk of negating that apology, a frustration that informed the sentiment in that post is what I perceive, to be blunt, as a lack of perspective by many of goody's many critics on here. By that I mean, by any reasonable measure, goody's tenure as senior coach has been incredibly successful. It just has. Dees fans know better than most how hard it is to be successful in AFL footy - as a coach and for a team. But leaving aside our incredibly long, sustained period of being wildly unsuccessfully, goody's numbers stack up against the best coaches in AFL/VFL history. How many coaches in the 166 year history of the game that have coached more than a 150 games have a win loss % above 50% and have won a flag? I'd be guessing, but it can't be much more than 20 or 30 in 166 years. That's rarefied air. We were still rubbish when goody took over. In his first season we missed out on finals by 0.5 percent. In 2018, playing an exciting, unpredictable back half transition game with his flying v strategy (that was a major factor in the introduction of the 666 rule) we had an incredible run in the back half of the season, had probably the two greatest wins I've seen live in the finals and made it to a preliminary final, getting beaten by the flag winner. He took the opportunity mass injury afforded in 2019 to retool his method, introducing the contest and all team defence model. We stalled in 2020, but it was the covid year and we were unlucky that the shorter quarters negated our fitness advantage. We won the flag in 2021, playing a finals series that some described as the greatest ever. Our grand final win was ridiculously good. Exhilarating football. Bang. Bang. Bang. Starting with our incredible win over the cats in round 23 to secure top spot, that was the greatest 6 weeks of my football supporting life. We finished top 4 in 2022. Sure we went out in straight sets, but come finals we were completely banged up and were never in the hunt. In 2023 we again finished top 4, a remarkable performance given our injuries up forward, but unfortunately we also again went out in straight sets. How you see the loss to the pies depends a bit on your perspective. We came our a bit flat - cross. But soon after we lost gus and the first quarter was a write off - mitigating factor (as was nor having him foe basically an entire game) so a tick. We played brilliantly for the rest of the game, and really should have won. Tick. Again, remarkable given no Gus and really only playing 3 quarters. Why did we lose? Because we didn't take our chances. That's 100% on the players, not goody. His method and game day coaching stood up. We went into the blues game down our last surviving specialist KPF in JVR, and still reeling from Gus. Be that as it may, forever and a day, fans and the club will rue that loss. I think we win and we are a huge flag chance. We were by far the better team that day. We should have won. Why did we lose? Because we didn't take our chances. And, I also think we didn't handle the pressure - so many unforced errors. Many of which from our senior players, for example maxy x 3. And we handled the last 5 minutes woefully. Again, that's on the players, not goody. Sure, the non use of Schache as a sub, not selecting Grundy and Laurie's selection could all be questioned. But wouldn't have been if the players had sealed the deal like they should have. Goody's method and game day coaching stood up. Again. The players didn't. 2024? We already had a young list, but started the season down two of our starting 22, two fit, seasoned players in Smith and Gus. We could not replace either, so effectively the list is 42. Other senior players in Petty, bb, tmac, hunter, McAdam and clarry all have very interrupted preseasons. And another best 22 senior player in melk is out till well past the half way point of the season. The first third of the season we are given an insane schedule with lots of travel, two byes and two 5 day breaks. We lost more senior games when bb is a bust fitness wise, Hunter ditto, may gets his ribs broken, salo out for 5 weeks, clarry had hand surgery and Lever out for 5 weeks. We lose our best, most dynamic player for the rest of the season after another sickening contact injury. We are regularly forced to select very young inexperienced teams, teams more akin to teams who are a rebuilding phase. All the while trying to implement a new method. Which is ironic given the inane OP accusing goody of being too predictable. We had the off season from hell, mutiple senior players injured, down two of our starting 22 and down 2 on our list. And with a two thirds of the season gone we are only 2 points out of the top 8 and still in the hunt. Objectively that is bloody impressive. As is goody's overall coachimg record. Facts are facts.
