  1. Just arrived at North Adelaide oval. Max running and kicking at half pace, no strapping on knee.

  2. I had to wade through dross to the equivalent of about 25 DL pages to extract this weeks contributions. Any idea what that is like 🤮 given they are my most hated team! The things I do for my fellow DL's😉

  4. Summary: Like every ‘Captain’s Run’, the mood was up-beat, and the skills (under no pressure) were precise. I loved the banter, I loved the ‘voice’ when things got a little bit more serious, and I loved the obvious camaraderie between the players. They were having fun, and so was I! My main (humble) take-always were: Kossi is primed. His skills and goal kicking were sublime, and he looked a million bucks (but I hope we don’t have to pay him quite that much!). On two occasions, I saw him and Goody embracing. Read into that, whatever you want. Based on positioning at today’s mini match sim, Petts will play back on the weekend. Chandler was doing some solo set shots towards the end. He nailed most of them from around 40m in a ’tricky’ cross wind. Looked good! He was also very vocal in the drills. Max isn’t too far away. He wasn’t involved in any of the drills, but was running and kicking at what I’d estimate at 75%+, before most of the others took to the field. No knee strapping was a good sign imo. Grundy is growing in fitness. Gee he was quick off the mark in short sharp bursts in the mini match sim. Hard to estimate who might be sub, but Lawrie looked really classy in the ‘easy’ going. FWIW, there’s been a bit of very light drizzle over the last hour where I am (about 5/6 km from Adelaide Oval).

  9. I’m married to a Carlton supporter, sshhh, I pretend to be neutral about them, but secretly I detest the vile, arrogant and entitled supporters (husband excepted) and club. God help us all when they finally reemerge. I was barracking for Adelaide tonight

  10. Just watched the West Coast replay and noticed what a great but unobtrusive game Viney played. I get constantly annoyed at the unfair criticism he endures. He is as good as any in our midfield.

  11. Living in and around Essendon for the past 20 years, I've come to realise that Essendon supporters are essentially an affluent version of the Richmond supporter. Their version of the game is essentially "The umpire is always wrong, everyone is always out to get us, we have a rightful place amongst the greats, the league is grateful of our existence." Being at The Lincoln Arms or Royal during an Essendon game is truly nauseating, with 10-20 of them spreading out across enough seats and tables for 50 people, sipping on red wine and Pure Blonde. Don't make eye contact, no sudden movements. Avoid football small talk with an Essendon supporter at all costs: your eyes will roll so hard into your skull, you'll do a 360 flip. Anyway, Melbourne by 32 points.

  14. Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but two moments in the Adelaide v Carlton game really stuck out for me. Both of them were Carlton goal celebrations. The first was Walsh. They were six goals down at the time and he's doing all these ridiculous hand gestures and celebration. You're six goals down mate. Stop celebrating and get on with getting back in the match. It wasn't just that it was a celebration. It was the arrogance of the celebration. It's fine to celebrate goals, that's good, but you look like a muppet when you're six goals down and carrying on like that. The other celebration is pretty much exactly the same as everything I've mentioned above, but in the third, when again, Carlton were like 4, 5 or 6 goals down. Motlop kicks a standard crumbing goal and then arrogantly gestures with his hand as if to indicate "on a platter". Mate, you absolute nuff nuff. You're nowhere near hitting the front, you've barely touched it, let alone been dangerous most of the night, and your team is down a long way. Carlton played like clowns and it would remain excellent if they continued to implode at every hurdle. Unfortunately, I think they could be a top 4 team this year, maybe a little Bradbury-like, but still, they have weapons. I think their problem at the moment is they think they're way better than they are. Their defence is suspect, their system is suspect, which means they're too reliant on McKay and Curnow to kick bags to win games. On that last point, we saw what happened to Richmond when system took charge and Riewoldt stopped being all about himself and just stuck to being a functional role player. We saw what happened when Melbourne players played disciplined roles in 2021 and they played to a tight defensive system. Carlton have none of this. I'd be staggered if they win a premiership until they sort the selflessness thing out.

  15. Bomberbliz/Bigfooty A bit more to offer in the last few days. As usual I've left out most of the repetiveness. Not sounding like fans of a team that is in the eight! Yeah, im optimistic we progressing!! Cant help being glass half full, comes with the Territory! ... its an illness, im hoping the therapy will help. We need fwds who will lead against melbourne. Lever and may will distroy us if we bomb it in like we have been. Dees onball division is still a scary proposition in wet. Got a big task ahead of us Reckon wet weather footy also favours older stronger bodies. It will be a hard slog. I’ll give you the tip, every supporter base reckons they get screwed by the umps. I think game plan is only half the story for wet weather. The other half is skill level. We have relatively poor ball handling skills in dry weather - fumbling, not being able to pick the ball up of the ground, double grabbing etc. it gets magnified in wet weather. Hirdy wouldn’t have picked such an appalling team. Boring selections but I supppse finals is still a live proposition. Hard 6 games coming up but pinch a couple and we would be certain to play finals. We’ve gone away from stacking the forward line with resting midfielders because they don’t provide enough defensive pressure. This will be the start of a long losing streak. The changes don’t really matter. We will get smashed and probably for the next 6 weeks or so. Should just forefeit the next month. Who does May go to without VOSS, May will monster Jones or nullify Stringer. If it’s absolutely hosing down rain both sides might struggle to kick a score. The upside as i see it is Melbourne are less likely to get away from us. 10 goal plus thumpings dont tend to happen in torrential rain and upsets do happen. Both positives even if i cant remember essendon playing great wet weather football Anyone thinking this isn’t heading towards a blow out beyond 7-8 goal margin is probably in for a reality check. If nothing else this game is the first real test against the elite of the comp. Will be fascinating to see if our structures hold up. Hope it rains all night and their beanpole forward line have to play on the deck. Strange they brought in Brown. He will be borderline useless in the forecasted conditions My Favourites: You’re getting worse on here lately. You should take a break and reach out to someone who can support you during these tough times. People that are giving us a chance…don’t do it to yourself. Brown is like a giraffe on an ice rink in the wet! Love the analogy - Watching that would be worth the admission fee alone….. Margin too difficult to predict in wet weather so happy to win by enough to keep or better our percentage of 150%.

  20. A little anecdote from work today! My firm's Chairperson today posted on the internal channels about their likes and dislikes... which included a dislike for the Hawks. Cue some delusional Hawks supporters saying this was "more unfortunate abuse of long suffering Hawthorn fans". Myself and a colleague pointed out that they're hardly long suffering given the "gazillion flags" in the last few decades. Eventually the Chairperson responded telling them to "Get over it" 😁

  21. Playing Essendon this week was obviously the inspiration for this piece. That 148 point drubbing in 2013 was a pivotal night in our history, and I personally find it hard to believe that it was only 10 years ago. Anyway, you didn't have to read it, or even click on the thread. I even said "for those interested" to cater for the likes of yourself who clearly aren't, but yet you click anyway, then come here to say don't talk about it. Odd... 🤔

  22. I’m surprised there are supporters of any club who don’t hate them. The performance enhancing drug regime of 2012 was cheating at its worst. The fact that James Hird never took any responsibility for for the scheme, the fact that both supporters and the Essendon hierarchy at the time felt they were hard done by and the fact that there are 34 players and ex players wandering around today STILL not knowing what that Club put into their bodies is a disgrace. I would have kicked them out of the competition And yeah, for us, there is also the out and out thuggery of the 2000 GF

  23. Yes. Anger never subsides. Seeing Hardwick holding Brad Green's arms from behind whilst allowing the thug Wallis to punch Green in the throat. Disgraceful. Together with Long’s dog act on Simmonds, two of the lowest acts seen in a GF.

  30. As a full MCC/MFC member I receive a complimentary junior membership each year which, as the club has just reminded me, I have not utilised this year. The junior member must be under 15 at 01/01/2023 - and this year I no longer have someone to give this membership to. If anyone knows someone in that category who would like a free junior membership, please pm me, as it is pointless to have it go begging. First in - best dressed.

  33. Please note the following comments are an absolute guess - i have zero intel on this, or any evidence to support my guess. Kozzie will resign. As in in play on at the dees. It will be announced ahead of the King's birthday game against the Pies as part of a strategy to maximise attendance and increase membership numbers. It is a home game for us this year and a big crowd will make a huge difference to the club's bottom line. By the by, the ANZAC eve game is also a home game this year. Both games being our home games is great timing given there are no COVID related restrictions this season.

  41. I was really surprised at the lack of media coverage of his 150th game. Nothing like the fawning over milestones for players like: Stringer, Cripps, Bontepelli, De Goey etc etc. But I came across this by Barrett: IF ... true greatness can sometimes be present long before we fully appreciate it ... THEN ... embrace the remainder of Clayton Oliver's already extraordinary career. Still just 25, reached game 150 last weekend. Won a best and fairest in his second season (2017), and has won three more since. Three times All-Australian, twice the AFL Coaches Association's player of the year. If only fellow all-time Demon greats Christian Petracca and Maxxy Gawn stopped taking Brownlow votes off him, he would've won a couple of those, too. High praise and much deserved but I didn't expect it from 'Purple'. The media know how good Oliver but won't give him the respect and recognition he deserves. Doubt it phases Oliver, he likes things to be low key.

  42. Interesting article in the Age today re the public land at Caulfield Racecourse. Part of the article below: "The trust overseeing public space at Caulfield Racecourse is running out of money and is warning that public access to the land at the centre of the track could be limited if it does not get funding." "It is also looking to sporting organisations, including the Melbourne Football Club, to help fund the public space, with the AFL club one of several organisations submitting an expression of interest to establish a standalone training facility at the racecourse." "The Melbourne Football Club declined to comment."

  45. Anyone sitting with or near the DA on Saturday, there’s been a change. We’ll now be sitting in Bay 124, directly behind the goals (River end) which is the home cheer squad bay. The Port cheer squad have decided to let us have this bay for the duration of our match and they’ll sit in Bay 125. After our match… swapsies. Of course that’s subject to change.
