  1. Not true, I haven’t heard this rumour and my ear is literally on the ground. #ETthetradebreaker.

  2. Hey, what’s the deal with the aggro here? I make a pretty harmless observation (sure, it might not have been an accurate one), some guy jumps down my throat and six of you pile on with the ‘likes’. Am I not in the Cool Club?

  3. Frost's 2019 looks better than it really was because the side around him was so poor. He's not worth what he's asking for. The reports suggest Frost is asking for more money than we're prepared to pay him, so we've let him talk to other clubs and are prepared to let him go. I completely understand the club's call. Arguments that we should keep him because of his pace are misguided IMO. Yes, teams need foot speed, but not from their key defenders. How many key defenders also play the dash off half back role? We need to plan our list for our next premiership, not for more seasons of 2019-level rubbish. Arguing that we should keep Frost because May and Lever might get injured again isn't, IMO, a smart approach to list management. Edit: forgot the argument I find the worst of them all: the argument that if Clarkson wants him then he must be good. Clarkson might be a stunning coach but he also traded in Vickery, Fitzpatrick and O'Rourke, all of whom stunk. Really such a dumb argument.

  4. Is that the same Jack Fitzpatrick that played a total of four games for Hawthorn in two seasons before being delisted at 26 years old?

  5. I believe we have made a blunder in letting Frost go and will come to regret it Only time will tell though

  6. Hyperbole. The reality is it was picks 10 and 19 for Lever We got pick 6 for Hogan which could've been Ben King if we had taken it to draft night. Alas, we didn't. And Hogan has been quite the flop for Freo. Please name an ex Melbourne player that Clarko has improved?

  8. I think I have defended Frost more than most over the journey and loved his frenetic runs, I will be sad to see him go. However sheer speed from the backline is not what we need but rather consistent and reliable ball movement. It's trite to say the ball in the air travels faster than anyone can run. If you look at richmond it was all about ball movement out of defence with kicks that retained possession either directly or to advantage. Frost doesn't fit that bill and if he wants overs then sadly he must go. The additional issue with his runs was he left the defence one short. I think that was the May heated discussion. A clearing kick to advantage leaves the structure intact.

  9. Gaff and Petrucelle for pick 3 I would do in a heartbeat

  10. Name the long list of mistakes and your development comment is complete and utter rubbish but let’s just throw out comments for the hell of it. We had a poor season but the following players have improved since joining the club and there development has been exceptional in some cases. Oliver Brayshaw Harmes Trac Fritsch Salem even the older bunch has improved T Mac Jetta Melksham Shall I continue? Frost himself has also improved under Goodwin but is still very limited and wanted to to much Money for a player of his calibre.

  13. Righto. “Have a bex and a lie down” is a pretty jovial bit of repartee in my neighbourhood, but I’ll just make a note in the diary here... (...no lighthearted and/or nostalgic references to ‘calming down’)

  15. Great post. The bolded bit is why i don't get too caught up in all the trading and drafting shenanigans. What will be will be. I understand that people love the various permutations and back and forths, and good luck to them - i like reading it. But for me its bit like the weather. A persons opinion about it isn't going to have an impact on it. by the by not every one dislikes Oscar. He'll play plenty of senior footy next year, mark my words.

  16. Clarko is a great coach and his record is terrific but he hasn't reached "genius" yet. He won 4 flags in a single list cycle which is fantastic but IMO he needs to back it up with flags in another cycle to be a genius. Recently he has been topping up with mature players to achieve that and has yo-yoed in and out of finals, losing in straight sets twice. He has bet the Hawthorn farm on mature talent - he needs a flag in this cycle.

  17. I know Frosty so I declare my bias and I will be very sorry to see him leave as I believe he has something to offer the club. Dal Santo stated this morning on SEN that he spoke to Frost last week and to date he has had NO OFFER yet from the club. This is in line with what his manager has stated despite what others have stated ie That his asking price is too high. I don't think you can trust anyone in the trade period. Personally I think the club would be mad to trade him but I don't know all the cards on the table. What we do know is that Stretch & Frosty don't have offers yet for 2020 which doesn't give one confidence that they are in the clubs ongoing plans. In Sam's case he is currently out of contract and we have May, Lever, OMac and Petty as key backs so as much as this site dislikes Oscar he is in contract. Sam is the easiest to move on as is Billy. In addition we have no insight into what the club expects moving forward and if they want to develop Petty more. I also note that in a recent article by Lever about rebuilding the backline he did not mention Sam. I don't like the decision but other clubs are moving on players. I cannot imagine why Saints want to move on Bruce, Adelaide haven't offered Keath much and Tomlinson is squeezed out at GWS. Every year players get squeezed out or traded. The club determines what happens and the frustration is our opinion amounts to nothing

  21. I've said this many times before, but your skills look a lot better when you're basically kicking to an uncontested player in space. Hard running enables this. Let's see how Burgess goes this off season. Ultimately, if our team isn't fit enough to tackle 2020, we're going nowhere regardless of who takes to the field for us.

  22. So we should pay ‘overs’ for Frost in case our other backs all have a similar injury riddled season like this season just gone? Because that’s what it’s going to take to re-sign him. Then what happens next season when we have multiple required players we want to extend or re-sign? Frost is not worth potentially losing out on those players or bringing in others via trade. I think the keep Frost camp need to look at the bigger picture.

  23. He's a solid citizen who's played in three preliminary finals and a GF in the last 4 years and was the Giants best player (and arguably best afield) in the 2017 prelim. He'll be good for the Demons.

  24. Ok, if we must..... Stretch for 1 & 2. But we are getting shafted AGAIN! Watch Dew turn him into a gun!

  25. Give me Frost any day over the rest of our defence. Height, pace, chase, tackle, never give up, durable, wants to play. Chases the pill and his opponents like no others. The rest of our defenders have dodgy bodies, slow, and prone to drop their heads. Who seriously thinks that May, Lever and Nev, will get through the season without injury and without missing games. And don't even mention Oscar. Sure Frostys disposal is iffy but hey join the club. His attack on the ball and dash make him stand out so his clangers look bad. Best and most improved defender in the second half of season. As the Tigers show you need players with dash and a bit of x factor that take risks. Always sorry to see someone go that wants to play with the Demons.

  26. Neither is a pick 3 candidate. It would need to be player plus their first rounder plus steak knives to even get close. Hopefully we are seeing teams that are desperate for currency, and we can leverage that to our advantage. An old bidding war for pick 3...

  27. Watch the 2018 final series closely. Frost did a lot right, but the amount of times he ran under a high ball, got turned inside out by his opponent (especially in the West Coast game), or he let the ball get out the back when he needed to stop it doing so were very costly. Can you imagine Frost with the ball in his hands under the high pressure of playing Richmond in a Grand Final??? Yikes. If we're claiming that Frost is going to be a crucial loss for our hopes of rising up the ladder then we are a million miles off the pace.

  28. While I'm upset that we'll be losing a future All Australian Backman and Future Brownlow medalist, I'll take solace in the fact that Melbourne will most likely have possession 90% of the time off Froot's boot when we play Hawthorn next year. I expect a first-round pick, neigh, make it two. He is, after all, a future star! And I'm sure Clarkson will get the best out of him like he did Frawley, Vickery, ect!

  29. Everyone is forgetting that we have Petty coming through also. Yes he was experimented with forward at different stages but he'll end up a rock solid KPD. The best asset Frost has is his speed, and tbh you'd prefer to leave that stuff to your small backs then the big hulks

  30. That's not correct IMO. We have a very talented list and most of it is under 25. We had a shocking year in 2019 but that was the aberration. A fit list with an extra year and a good preseason, add a bit of Langdon and Tomlinson, one of KK or VDB and we will be right back in the thick of the action.

  32. Average wage was 362k a year (2018 stats) so that figure will probably be about 400k next year. I think that's ok. He's worth just slightly more than the average player.

  33. A good get for the Dees. Solid role player who will add professionalism, leadership and experience to our side.

  34. Genuine Midfielder/Forward but will start and play majority of next at half forward. He played 5 games in the NAB league and averaged 24 disposals and kicked 5 goals. Played school footy also and absolutely dominated also. 178cm who could easily kick your 2-3 goals when up forward but then roll through the midfield and pick up an easy 25 to 30 touches around. Solid built who has the frame to make an impact straight away in the AFL next year. Unlike Brayshaw, Viney and Oliver to an extent who are all pidgeon hole in the midfield, Serong has the ability to make a huge not only in the midfield but up forward also.

  35. Scott Brother 1 is on record saying he can't see the trade happen ans that he'd expect 4 round one picks and a player to trade out Tim Kelly. Seems reasonable.

  36. It’s the same people who think Frost is worth an early second rounder. They rate our players too high and opposition players too low.

  37. Andrew Brayshaw was pick 2 and now has 50 odd games under his belt. Out of interest why do people say he wouldn't be worth pick 3? Thanks

  38. Feels like ground hog day here replace Frosts name with Watts, Silvia, Travis Johnstone or woewodin and it’s the same discussion, other than Stef Martin and Howe I can’t think of a single player in the last 20 years I regret losing, and I don’t think we had a choice with the last 2

  39. Deal with freo picks 6 & 7 for picks 3 & 20. I would look at that.

  40. Reckon Dal Santo sums up my feelings on Frosty: Nick Dal Santo: Sam Frost is fantastic defender but questionable with ball in hand. In the modern game you have to be able to make split-second decisions off the half back line. I think that might be the reason that the Demons haven't re-signed him.
    4 points
  41. No there hasn't. All of those listed have shown vast amounts of improvement over the years. One down year doesn't wipe that away.

  42. Frost gives away goals and turns the ball over just as often as he makes exciting runs. He is also renowned for making mind bogglingly stupid decisions. He is a Grand Final nightmare. The way some supporters are going on about losing him is simply over the top. Clearly the MFC don't value him anywhere close to what some supporters do. "He's our only quick player". That's not a reason to keep a player. There is zero evaluation involved in a sentence like that. A five year old could make a comment like that. If Frost nets us a second round pick that we ontrade to Freo for Langdon then we already win. The possibilities we'll have to trade up the draft then will be many. Also, how had Frawley gone since joining the Hawks? Clarkson certainly turned him into a star didn't he..

  43. Courage? It's his role. He has no fear of making a mistake, as he makes them consistently. Took possession. Baulked is putting it kindly. Through dumb luck (not design) the red seas parted, and he's gifted with the agility to take advantage of that. Hit the right target. He has done some things right, but he is afforded too much credit for this play. He was lucky, but the act itself was an incredibly stupid decision. Right in front of goal, and he decides to launch his body headfirst at the legs of others. He has practically begged to have a decision made against him, and has only succeeded by the incompetence of the umpire. Frosty has been capable of moments of sheer brilliance, but it is often a result of combining his supreme athleticism with sheer luck. And far too often he demoralises his teammates but making dumbfounding decisions while they're pushing hard to provide options further afield, ultimately catching them out of position and leaking easy goals. It's time to let him be somebody else's problem.

  45. And those same posters would be smashing him if we were trying to recruit him from Hawthorn (see Tomlinson).

  46. What us the stuff about needing frost's speed? Again, we dont need quick key defenders. We need quick, skilled mids and forwards. Everyone is raving about Richmond. Riddle me this - who is their super fast key defender? Or for that matter any other super fast key defender from ine if tbe four preliminary final team?
