  1. Interestingly so is Salem, he is finally free all injuries/ailments etc and did a heap of extra work, wants to show what he can do, hasn't missed a beat up to now, his running has gone to another level

  2. These two guys worked there for 12 and 14 years and were basically told to p-ss off, hand in your pass now and get out of the station immediately. Surely after that long a little more respect is due.

  4. Just watch this space... They have been angling to get Hird on, it won't be drive time but they did a nice little softener with Mike Sheahan and Lyon using him as some kind of expert on something that slips my mind now. There was no context just an excuse to test the waters. That will be the end of SEN for me...

  5. It's not about his being sacked, but the manner of it. Employers have the right to hire and fire, but surely unless there is gross misconduct, firing should be done with some decency. If that is how it was done, SEN would be a sh-t place to work for the rest of the staff, who now know how their employer operates. Luckily for Garry Lyon, who with Timmy has had worse ratings than Ox and Allen, while being paid a truckload more, he is mates with Hutchy . Great way to get staff morale up with that insensitive departure of two loyal employees. Nice Xmas present for their families.

  6. I still have a number of Foxy Footy Superstar month 'Max Gawn' episodes from 2016 on my IQ which I refer to for inspiration. Had Max remained uninjured and retained that sort of form 2017, we play finals. I actually think much of our compeditiveness and 2016 finals chance came more via Max, than it did season 2017. Really hoping that Max 16 + rest of MFC 17 = Demon Finals 2018.

  8. Just on Mitch King, was talking to a Murray bushranger official at the start of the year and he made mentioned that during his time at Melbourne, King has grown to the 202cm mark.

  9. Last friday morning there was 4 Collingwood people on in a row, it was absurd. Danny Frawley being groomed for sure. 2 words: Why Bother?

  10. Wow what races they were. Hadnt seen the Fairy King Prawn race before, that was epic. The mare of the world was right. We must all be around the same vintage i guess. Excellent history lessons guys.

  11. Most forget Salem started 2017 very well before injury, and like others, he never really got going after that. If he stays injury free, he will be one of our big movers this year.

  12. That's quite common. In the mines, an immediate escort off site is standard practice for someone who is terminated, for any reason. Particularly in my game, where explosives security is involved.

  15. Epic Macca! Northerly looked gone before the bend as Sunline found another gear and what a cracking run by the then 3yr old Viscount....then the protest drama. Cheers for the memories mate!

  16. Showed Hunt's electric pace, Viney's fierce attack on the ball and T Mac as a forward. We have all that to look forward to for a very long time.

  20. When Marc Allen speaks about golf with KB it's compelling listening. He acts normally and is exceptionally insightful. And when he uses wit it's not over the top. With Schwarz he's arguably the most insufferable announcer I've ever heard. The show evolved into the most puerile and juvenile show imaginable. Allen constantly got overly excited by nothing or repeated what Schwarz had said a nanosecond earlier. Schwarz was harmless and likeable, but had little depth.

  22. Hong Kong provides some great racing at this time of the year and one of the most memorable and thrilling finishes I have ever seen happened back in December of 2000. https://youtu.be/RJ3V1Ht9dW0

  23. 4 Group 1's at Hong Kong tomorrow (ranging from 1200m through to 2400m) ... the event is on the free-to-air racing station as well as racing.com. Doubt I'll have a bet (maybe one ) but there's a number of the world's best jockeys involved (as well as the top-notch horses) The Prizemoney is through the roof even after the conversion to AUD. By my calculations 2 x $3million races and 2 x $4million races.

  24. What he's shown is a massive work ethic. We've all heard how Oliver modeled his behaviour on Stretch as someone who is totally professional in his habits. ANB came from the same place and clearly has the same approach. He's clearly not the explosive talent that you find at the top of the draft, but I suspect Goodwin loves his work ethic and will to succeed.

  27. Rjay if they are setting up Spud Frawley, they are struggling surely? Or am I misjudging the audience? Maybe it is me but Spud is a not very interesting relic of the 70's and talks like he is still in the change rooms from when he played. Very cringeworthy at times, blokey talk about not getting enough from the missus, [censored] ups with mates etc. And importantly not much analysis of the games when he is supposed to be talking about it rather than him so what is the attraction?

  28. A couple of observations: 1. I think he's a bit out of the best 22 and I'd like to see him train with the forwards or backs in the future to open up other roles (it doesn't much matter especially at this time of the year) but it really seems like Corey Maynard is a classic glue guy. He's someone both the older and younger players seemed to have warmed to and the coaches rave about how he goes about it. 2. You have to run and kick footies in preseason but I like variety in training and off field bonding as well. Some of it is junk but it's a long preseason and this kind of stuff matters. Jones and Viney in the midfield with a bunch of talent is nice to see, but it's also good to know Lever and Lewis give the backline group some fresh perspective both on and off the field and Tommy Mc is something new for the forwards. Tennis sounds a little bland for the forwards and a little soft for the defenders so hopefully those guys make a weekend get away for us to all obsess over as well!

  29. Id really like a FM station that had Francis Leach and say, Bob Murphy doing drive time radio. I like the Ox but I find the whole station 90% driven by dumbf##ks. Being in touch with my grump side, I can normally only last 20-30 minutes till Marko sh!ts me. I dont think it has to be dumbed down that much but a smarter (more grown up?) take on sport couldnt go wrong.

  30. I think his best attribute is his ability to turn on a sixpence after gathering the ball from almost full speed and then just as quickly, find and crucially hit a target.

  31. Yep, I was kinda waiting to see if they were going to put on any of our players, to some disapointent. Doesn't bother me in a way though. I'm quite happy for us to be low on hype and fly under the radar of the media during preseason this year.

  32. Sorry for going slightly off topic but it's not worth starting a new thread. They were showing Superstar month games for 2017 a few weeks ago on Foxtel but I didn't come across one of our games. If they did put one of our players on I definitely missed it. Did you happen to see if they put us on last month? Also, Foxtel currently showing Best Of 2017: Cliffhangers. I tuned in and saw they had the Round 22 Freo v Tigers game on. Tigers won that by almost 50 goals, how is that a cliffhanger?

  33. I wouldn't say it's the beginning of the end for SEN, as they are probably already on that track, but with Hutchy now pulling the strings, I can see this heading south quickly. Pathetic treatment of two loyal servants. Always liked the ox, a genuine bloke, whose love for the dees has always been evident.

  34. Glad to hear of some self confidence from him. He has most of the tools, and at least one elite trait. Only needed the continuity of games, and no niggles. Im tipping he might be the midfield link man we have been craving. Only wish is that he could find a tad more speed. @DemonAndrew It's been reported that Lewis will play in defence this season, hence his absence from the pic.

  36. The good bit about the feature races is that they're on late in the day ... so there's all Friday evening & most of Saturday to square things up. Some I know like to bet all day (when they do bet) and then others are like me, they're just interested in the big races. I had a small first 4 on the Zephyr race too - no good but again, no harm done. Oddly enough, I nearly got it as I had Amadeus to win as well as our adopted horse. But you've got to get all 4 in correct order to win 2k was a decent dividend when considering that 3 of the 4 were fancied runners and Amadeus came right in too.

  37. That's right, you're out of metro. So the free-to-air channels are different in the country yeah? Redzone is great but there's nothing like watching a big game from go to whoa.

  38. ...absolutely spot on 'ProDee'. Many years ago I moved interstate and worked with a small group of people, a couple of whom were said to be big smokers and inhalers I started going out with a local girl who was surprised I didn't even smoke cigarettes let alone anything else. The word around town was that I was big time into it. It was a great life lesson...if you don't know, you don't know.

  39. Corey Wagner signed on. Ex Kangas listed and played 8 AFL games with the Roos over 2016 and 2017. To play with his brother Josh plus to show he has some small forward role to play. Very handy player.

  40. We can always read history and find fringes and elements that go against the general theme. I think there needs to be great care taken ( read resistance) by placing too much emphasis on the exceptions and diminish what the history clearly is. In the case of the holocaust there is the indisputable facts -a repugnant regime with a documented, systematic policy of removing a race from the face of the earth. Nothing more nothing less.

  41. Word was that Oscar was spotted later in the pool, thrashing his arms around as he managed to propel himself from one end to the other and back. Apparently some were saying that this was another poor effort, as it was clear proof that he had failed in his attempts to walk on water.

  42. More than just a knack. I think that through his endurance and effort he often out gut runs his opponent to get to that place. Did it many times last season.

  43. It is a training report thread, it is the only topic I am posting in, the rest degenerate into slanging matches and negativity If anybody wants to whinge and whine do it in one of those, let the rest of the readers read them in peace @DeeSpencer puts a lot of effort into his reports, read and enjoy, that's what I do and I am at the same sessions

  44. Doing everything he can with what he has. His effort can't be questioned. A long term high quality midfielder forward with good vision and skills. I have him in our best 20 now and on the rise. Good character too.
