  1. Taylor Adams Season by Season: 2012: 18th (GWS) 2013: 18th (GWS) 2014: 11th (Collingwood) 2015: 12th (Collingwood) 2016: 12th (Collingwood) I'm really happy for Dunn that Taylor is there to tell him about what success looks like.

  2. I went yesterday and here is a quick summary of the MFC players. Just a quick observation on the game. The conditions were perfect but the game was just a scrap. There were very few good passages of play with ball use generally poor and nobody seemed to be able to find space. This may or may not be a valid observation. I usually watch games from a reasonable elevation and I watched this game from boundary side and I think that taints things. I wasn't a great example of Aussie rules. Trengove: I hardly noticed him in the first half but his second half seemed very good to me. Got a fair bit of it and used it well and was clean. Smith: Very quiet. First game back and just couldn't get into it. It was a perfect day for footy yesterday and it was disappointing that none of our big men were able to take a grab. Keilty: I thought I might have been standing next to you yesterday Drunkn because in the first few minutes Dec dropped a chest mark and the bloke standing next to me just said "Oh Dec". He moved into the ruck in the second half and was pretty useful and he did a few nice things around the ground but overall I was a little disappointed. I saw a fair bit of him last year and thought he was very good and I was expecting to see a big improvement now he is a full time footballer but neither he or Smith have taken a step IMO. Keep in mind this is my first match of the year for Casey and one game doesn't define a season. Johnstone: Unsighted in the first half but worked into the game very nicely and showed some good speed and intensity which created one goal in the last quarter which was good return for effort. And boy can this kid kick it long! He's a mile away from a game but I reckon yesterday's second half showed why he was drafted. Kent: Our best player in the first half but faded in the second. Showed his strength and speed at times and played a bit on ball. Is he a tweener? Too good for VFL and not good enough for AFL? He's got some serious competition for a spot in the seniors. Stretch: Like DJ I was a little underwhelmed and Billy is one of my favourites. He couldn't seem to find space yesterday but he used the ball pretty well when given a chance and ran and worked hard. Weideman: Looks completely out of form and touch to me. Couldn't clunk anything and couldn't get involved in the game. He went into the ruck in the last half and at least got to run around a bit but he played the same way in the VFL as the AFL. Looks a mile away at the moment. White: Strong and servicable and a bit good for this level but by the same token isn't pushing for a game in the seniors. Kennedy Harris: Played midfield and got a lot of it in tight. Judging by his stats he was very busy but there weren't many highlights in his play. There's no way I would have thought he got as much of the ball as the stats say but I'm glad he's had such a prolific game. IMO he was promoted to the seniors far too quickly which did him no favours. Would be interesting to see how he goes in the seniors when in form. Kennedy: Was a typical Kennedy game except he kicked it well for goal. He was tough in the packs and used his pace well to find space a few times. Hulett: I've always liked him but yesterday was just a game. Couple of quick goals were good but just not involved enough. He is a nice kick and can take a good grab on occasions. Anyone else? Let me know. There were a couple of likely types for Casey. I liked 25 particularly - Gordon? Had a touch of the Michael Johnson's about him. Tall and rangey with a good left foot that occasionally let him down but promising nonetheless. One to keep an eye on. Oh, and a note. Don't join MFC/Casey as a ruck. Gawn, Spencer, Flipper, King all gone and poor old Gach Nyuon did his ankle in the first quarter, had it strapped but couldn't go on much after that.

  3. How good is Christian Petracca? He made the AFL Team of the Week without even playing. Sheer genius!

  4. What if a poster has a history of suggesting they get "inside mail" that is subsequently proven to be incorrect. What if a poster is knowingly fabricating stories ? Personally, I'd like to know the form of posters with inside mail claims, so I can judge the veracity of their comments accordingly.

  5. I don't take much notice of the MCG hoodoo. If we couldn't play the ground we wouldn't have strong quarters. V Carlton 6 goals in the 4th V Freo 7 goals in the 2nd and 6 goals in the last V Hawthorn 7 goals in the third V North 6 goals in the second If our game style was no good at the ground we wouldn't be having dominant quarters. Our issues have been as much about missing personnel and a young team learning a new game-plan.

  6. I'm actually quite surprised you're asking the questions considering your posting frequency. GNF called the Roos appointment early on in the piece but then crashed and burned with Dangerfield to MFC - they're just a couple of examples. You asked the same about Pennant St Dee when he called the Hogan delay which was due to (but not disclosed by PSD) his cancer diagnosis. If you'd like to know posters form before judging the veracity of their claims, I'd suggest you start by taking more notice of what other people contribute so people don't have to waste their time with reminding you.

  8. We have the fifth best percentage, we've won the 4th most quarters, and our biggest loss is by 29 points. I think our "inconsistency" is overplayed. No doubt a quarter here and there has cost us, but not having your two most important players will do that.

  9. I wasn't far off when I said we'd beat North by 113 points.

  10. I hope we're not taking any comfort from the stories about Collingwood's injuries. We've been down that road a few times before and it's rarely panned out the way we would have hoped. It's 22 v 22 and a must win.

  14. Good sum up... I look at 2016 though... we had ridiculously good luck with injuries. I was always afraid the old law of averages would catch up with us, and it has. What I'm relieved about is that there haven't been career ending ones (unless you count Brayshaw), and even the Gawn one hasn't ended his or our season. Being 5-5 with names that, going into the year, you just don't expect to hold us together... That's my glass half full take. Yes we've been unlucky... but I didn't see any of the following happening, and I wonder if any would have happened without all the injuries we've seen... Hibberd was good already. But so much time away, and he's actually improved. Literally hasn't played anything short of a great AFL game this year. Smith stays in, does Hibberd have the same responsibility? Frost I thought was a lost cause. I knew he'd come in and show dash, and therefore keep his spot. But I never saw him damaging teams. Again, yes, Smith looked really good... but I wonder if Frost is played as early as he has been if Smith keeps his spot. Pedo is almost heart and soul now. When Gawn and Spencer are back, he's still best 22. TMac adds forward string to his bow. Wouldn't see that without injuries. Likewise Watts, though we knew he ran in the ruck already. Hunt is now actually talked about by opposition supporters. He's verging on stardom. Didn't think that was possible. He's another 20% better than last year. ANB is becoming best 22. Wouldn't be getting a game if we didn't have injuries. Garlett was in Slobbo's All Australian squad in the Hun today. We've been rotating Harmes, Hannan, JKH and others through there with injuries and form a problem, and he has been career best. Hannan is going to be a valuable forward for years. Goes both ways. A big find... makes the AVB injury hurt a LOT less. I'm pumped, TBH. We get all these injured guys except Garland and maybe Braysh back, and in full flight. We're in good shape I reckon.

  16. It was Port that offered the 2 picks and I think they were about 4 and 10, but I stand to be corrected. JT was that highly thought of by Port, that they offered a great deal, which we knocked back. There is no doubt that the blokes we took at 1 and 2 that year, would have been taken by every other club if they had those picks. Then the Tigers offered us pick 12 if JT passed his medical, which of course he didn't. We would have taken Lever with that pick. We took Brayshaw at 3 as would most clubs and he has had concussion problems. We lost Petracca for his first year with an ACL. Jesse has had a horrible year. Joel Smith looked ready to bloom and did his shoulder in the first 10 minutes of the first game. AVB has had foot problems for a couple of years. Gawn has done a couple of ACL's and now a hamstring. Tim Smith is injured in the first few minutes of his second game. Garland does his ACL in the pre season. Spencer replaces Gawn and goes down injured in his second or third game back. We have been unlucky.

  17. Queens birthday Facts: Pies -back from travel to WA, -2 huge outs, 2 more possible, Dees - fresh after the bye - possible return of Hogan or even Gawn Both teams - season defining game - spot in the 8 on the line blah, blah, blah, I can see a humiliating loss. hope I'm very, very wrong

  18. Wow, a few key Collingwood players could be out! A chance to maybe move up to sixth in our marquee game? What can go wrong? We don't ever let these kind of opportunities slip.

  19. We've won one more quarter than Richmond having played one less game. How many teams would be fourth on the quarters won ladder without their two most important players ? To check the significance of this stat go back through previous years of the QW ladder and you'll know what I mean. I really don't think we're getting enough credit for our year to date given we've been playing with no ruckman or key forward. You can't tell me we wouldn't at least 7 wins (and top 4) if we hadn't been cruelled by injuries to our two most important players. QB is vital for our finals chances.

  22. Melbourne have seemed to have had some mercurial forwards in my lifetime, more than most teams. Imagine a forward line of Jakovich, Farmer, Aaron Davey, Sean Charles & Jurrah. You'd pay 4 times the admission price to watch it every week.

  24. Corey Maynard: Sorry, forgot him which is a pity because he was probably the one that I was most interested in seeing as I'd not seen him before. Corey was workmanlike playing as an inside mid. Clean with the ball and used it quite well but nothing to get excited about at this stage. He's not played a lot in the last few weeks so with that in mind I'd give him a pass. TBH jnrmac it was a game I came away from thinking we have a couple of depth players at Casey but not much else. In the past I've gone to see Casey and there were always interest in the young blokes but there is little interest this year. I was disappointed in the standard of play and didn't see much to enthuse. Sorry to be so negative but that's just the way I saw it.

  27. Wow I wonder whether the 'MFC' mental issues are about the self survival of supporters. We are playing a serious brand of football. Our KPI's are amongst the best without our 1st choice ruckman & backup. Without our full fwd & backup. Aside from GWS who else is hanging in there with injuries to first choice players? We are not been blown away like in past years. Frost, Hibberd, Hannah, Oliver amongst others having breakout years. Our percentage is the 5th best in the comp! If your going to bed in appreciation/gratitude mode your enjoying our ride. Otherwise it's fear based journey which leads to ........ Looking forward to with excitement of what the future holds. Go Dees!!

  34. I really wanna see Trengove play in the seniors, even just one more time. You could call it 'wanting to get closure' on a very dark and challenging time for the club. If he plays and stinks it up, great, I'll never mention him again and he can happily play out his 20s with his mates in a quiet suburban league. But part of me yearns for that promise and potential that we saw in those early years to be fulfilled.

  35. Pre-season Champion Data ranked the midfields. Pies came in 1st and Dees 18th. It was laughable at the time and Monday afternoon around 6pm we'll see why.

  39. Interesting point, but can't go with you on that one. Darcy's kicked a lot of goals. He's the full 200cm beanpole. Has been under pressure this year a lot, with no help, and is still looking good the last few weeks. Did enough last year to warrant them getting rid of Cloke. Weed's a ways off Darcy at the moment. That kid will be a star.

  40. How do we typically play off a bye? If we're slow starters most matches then i fear that we'll be asleep again in the first as we 'dust off the cobwebs' on our game style. Oh and this is the champion data 1st vs 18th midfield battle isn't it?

  41. Fair bit of upside for us this week. Pies return from Perth with injuries. Salem back in, which will improve our disposal. Maybe Hogan back too. Hunt should be better than last week and Tom Mac would have to be. Lewis's first half last week was diabolical and he should improve. Melksham found some form. Hannan continues to improve, Wagner too. Petracca had a poor one and will have a big crowd to lift him. It is effectively an 8 point game, so a win to us could kill off the Pies. We are back at the G even though we haven't played well there this year, so something to prove there as well.

  42. We were still in the chase for the finals up until the last 2 rounds of the season last year. I think we are a much better side this year, apart from the Geelong lose when we lost Gawn in the second quarter and kicked 19 points the most we have lost by is 2 Goals. We have lost two of our best key position players and we're still finding a way to win games. Considering we are only one game out of the top 8 with out Gawn and Hogan, I think we deffenitly have chance to make the finals.

  47. I'm far from convinced. Our best footy is bloody good but we just don't produce it consistently. Still .... I live in hope. A finals appearance (even it is only one ) would be a terrific boost for the club, supporters and players on so many levels.

  48. I did the ladder predictor 'on gut feeling' game by game and end up with us finishing in 5th, playing St Kilda (8th) in an elimination final. Which we will win after Fraser Gehrig gets crunched trying to run around Nathan Carrol. My result is clearly accurate because I've also got Richmond having a late season fade-out to finish 9th, on percentage.
