  1. This morning I was at a business end of year function . The guest of honour was Rodrigo Teixeira (pronounced Teshera). Rodrigo was present with his wife, young son and baby. He spoke of his journey to Australia from Brazil, which culminated in he and his family attaining Australian citizenship. Rodrigo first came to Australia on a medical fellowship, as he was a surgeon in Brazil. He took up further training at our Royal Children’s Hospital. Now, he is Head of Reconstructive Surgery at the same hospital. He was the lead surgeon of a team that separated the conjoint twins; Krishna and Trishna See http://childrenfirstfoundation.org.au/2013/trishna-and-krishna/ But this morning, to top off such a wonderful story, Rodrigo announced to those assembled that he is a Melbourne Dees supporter, with the family of 4 being all members of the club. He joined up the youngest child while he was still in the womb. This is a wonderful story and I have brought it to the attention of the footy club and I hope they follow up. It highlights what is Melbourne’s wonderful multi-cultural community, which of course, thankfully, the AFL community has embraced. The fact that this great surgeon, coming from the other side of the world, to look after our kids and then becomes a MFC member is a great story for our footy club. I hope the club follows up The following link will tell you a bit more about Rodrigo’s story. http://www.rch.org.au/plastic/staff/Rodrigo_Teixeira/

  2. I reckon the only wall we should be building Dub, is one around the 'G to keep out the interlopers, such as the Filth, Toigs and Carlscum. After all, it's Mabo, it's the Constitution. it's the vibe. We were the original owners of the land ..... in a football sense I mean.

  6. I don't know nor care to know what the situation was for them so I shall generalise the discussion here. I understand 'morally wrong' refers to the 'don't mess with the missus' code. And for some it is particularly strong and extend it to ex wives/ex partners. But when two people are separated, living apart from their ex spouses/partners and are consenting adults, how they lead their lives is a private matter. As a woman, I wouldn't want my separated from for several years ex husband, having some intrinsic right to know who I was dating. I may or may not choose to disclose it but as to an intrinsic right for him to know or to get an explanation, well in my book, it does not override my right to privacy. Understandably, he can be sad, angry, disappointed or upset but to think I was morally wrong to date a mutual best friend would not sit well with me. I'm not wanting to stir up a hornet's nest, and relationships are delicate situations but just wanted to put a female's perspective on the privacy of consenting adults.

  10. We probably don't want a re-valuation on the Bentleigh club....yet. While we are the beneficiary of equalisation money from the AFL, it doesn't look good to be making a sizable profit, even though it is a paper one.

  11. Once again we're on the same page BBO. There's an ego that makes Jeff Kennett look like he's unsure of himself.

  12. Careful Bullet. He has a very sharp scalpel I believe which could be useful for some on here. Just as an update, Stephanie from the Club has just contacted me and they were aware of Rodrigo's membership, but not his story. Stephanie says the club will get in touch with him directly, so I guess it is a case of watch this space

  13. Seriously?? Do you think after all his self indulging precious carry on that he would be welcomed or trusted by any of the playing group? By the fans at large? He has burned his bridges as far as I am concerned. If I knew how to set up one of those polls I would.....my prediction is that he would be as welcome as a bacon and egg roll at a Barmitzva.

  14. I'd have Daisy. No brainer. Demonland has a Women's Football Board and she is the face of Women's Football, as well as a great ambassador of the MFC. Gawn is the other obvious one.

  15. Great story - thanks for sharing. As an aside, I signed up my son, Henry, at about 20 weeks, upon finding out his gender. He was little more than a bump at that stage. Henry is now three and a half years old, yet his new membership card correctly states that he is a 5 year member. I'm pleasantly surprised that the club allowed it - but, then again, back in those days we needed the members: it was the darkest period before dawn.

  19. Back in the 70's I would often drive home with a six pack on the front seat. Usually knock over at least 3 ( depending on traffic) and smoke a few ciggies. Arrh the good old days!

  27. And a 2nd round pick. It was in effect Toumpas for Kennedy straight swap. Howe for a 2nd rounder, which was then part of the Gold Coast deal to bring in the 2 first rounders and we dropped back to the 3rd round for it. We missed Howe's good games last year but not his bad and it took him getting traded to realise he's not a forward. Now we used a similar 2nd round pick this year that we got from Howe last year to bring in Hibberd who will play the same role as Howe and if Hibberd gets fit and in peak form he'll play it better.

  29. In the distant past I had my business partner & friends wife (separated) invite me to a wedding. I spoke to him to see how he felt about it, he said he didn't give a sh t. A short dalliance followed. The business relationship & friendship was permanently damaged. There is probably no right way. The ex has no right of ownership, but that does not seem to stop the sense of betrayal felt. Separated people can see who they want but feelings can be hurt. Billy B had no right to dictate who his wife went out with but his feelings still got hurt. A no win situation for all involved.

  33. Thanks DS, have to do it on my phone, that is what defeats me, just ask my daughter, I get emojis holding their heads in hands The other player who looks like he is ready to take it to another level is Billy Stretch Spoke to Jonesy as well today, really content as to where the team is at at the moment, looking forward to taking the field again with some of the young talent we have, loving the physicality Goodwin and Macca are instilling

  36. 'Hemingway', most of us have made poor decisions in life. Just not in the public limelight. Some decisions hurt others, some are irresponsible and often selfish. In Gary's case the story we got was that he had an affair with Billy's ex wife... I would think Gary's wife and family would have felt hard done by and betrayed if they were still together (I don't know these circumstances). Whether or not they were Billy took the moral high ground, seeming to claim some kind of ownership of his ex wife which is more of the boys club attitude to my mind. As some on here will know, I'm not a Gary fan at all but I don't think what he did was a hanging offence. Just another situation that shows footballers for all their ability on the field are just normal people off it.

  38. Being a yarraville local I'm really looking forward to a nice 15 min stroll to the local footy ground to watch my beloved dees play out in the west , might make a bit of a family event with the mrs being a bulldogs supporter (more vocal recently btw) , and my little young kids being a bit conflicted atm on whether they barrack for the dees or the dogs, it's the dees at the moment cos they like the theme song ? . A local community opportunity and suburban footy feel with my club that I rarely get to see in this modern professional football world of AFL...made my day ?
