  1. On Monday 14th December I ventured down to the paddock to record some images of the Dees training as I'm want to do from time to time and posted around 100 photographs of the Dees at work. To post the 100 pictures I take around 500 pictures and share what I consider to be a representative cover of the boys effort on the day. You don't see every frame that I take. I thought that because we are now in a bit of a hiatus with the cub shut down till next year that I would spend I bit of time exploring one of my passions (photography) examining the result of my afternoons work and sharing an extended view of what I see at training covering one of my other passions (The Dees).. I'll go through the full 500 shot gallery and pick selected shots and sequences over the next couple of weeks until the boys are back in town. You'll see shots you have already seen in the original post but they will be in context with other shots. If you have no interest in this, have a lovely Christmas and I'll see you in the new year. For all of the rest of you, the first small set is of the big Gawn. Two of the shots were in the original post. 2. And the winners are: For maintaining the Rage: Beelzebub for Essendon-WADA thread. Honorary mention to Sir Why You Little for letting us know his views about Tom Scully whenever the chance arises. For eternal optimism disguised as pessimism: Old Dee For describing the: Joeboy For providing Demonland fashion advice without ever actually providing any fashion advice: Jaded For encouraging the mancrush within us all: 6six6 (or whatever your name is now) for those fantastic photos And a serious one: To Andy, WJ, Nasher and all the mods - thanks for giving us somewhere to chat amongst friends about our fantastic, yet exasperating football club.

  4. Are you serious. Regardless of what people think of Neeld as a coach, to insinuate that he was partially to blame for Jurrah going off the rails is ridiculous. Jurrah was responsible for his own actions, not Neeld and not the AFL.

  10. Well it didn't come from the club, it came from the bloke who ran it. In this day and age most clubs would have called the 2 papers and asked for pics and a "story" to go with it. To me that is pretty secret in the AFL. Maybe old mate was trying drum up business?

  11. Another leak from the CAS hearing. Queries over sentencing discounts for Bombers It doesn't pay to read too much into this kind of stuff, but it strikes me that none of the CAS hearing leaks have been favourable to the bombers.

  12. Agree. Don't need to go into the finer details, just glad Roosy took them out of their comfort zone. When the going gets tough next year i want to see who puts their hand up and show real leadership.

  15. It amazes me that people still give Scully a moment's thought, let alone are still bitter over what happened. The kid had millions of dollars placed in front of him. He'd frankly have been stupid not to have signed. "But he lied to Jimmy!!!111" Jesus, grow up.

  16. May have thought they would get closer to the truth if the players in question had little/less to lose.

  17. probably why only one of the called in players was a current essendon player?

  18. OK that is very suspicious. OK beeb off to the gallows with them.

  19. I think it was around matters where Young had said there is evidence the players took x,y, and z. Here is the evidence, yet during the interviews the players on mass only mentioned x and y, why did none of them mention z when it was clearly given to them. The players were called in to explain why they had not mentioned z as the panel found it very disturbing that they had not mentioned it. Sounds like instructions were given to players on what to admit to and what to not admit to given they all failed to mention one substance. That is not a good look when uncovered.

  20. Terlich was let go by Roos at the Swans and didn't get a game with us last year. Not surprising that he wouldn't be a great fan of the Coach, if it is him. I watched him lose the Casey final this year in 5 minutes, with 3 blatant miskicks to Bomber players, that resulted in soft goals, killing the final. Players like that have no place in an AFL team today.

  21. probably could head to SKOBS with a few other melbourne players and get paid something ridiculous for a job in construction, because obviously players don't get paid in the ammos. Is Terlich a mate of yours? Jetta is our best small defender by leaps and bounds and Terlich will never play another game for Melbourne. The suggestion that the gap is close is ridiculous, whilst Jetta doesnt provide much run out of the backline his disposal is more often than not effective and has been looking to address this. Jetta or Terlich on any of the small forward in the AFL i know who i would choose. 1 v 1 pound for pound Jetta is almost our best defender.

  22. Great comments Dee-lauded. An unforgettable talent and I feel privileged to have seen him play. However a member of the footy department told me at the time in cold hard terms that he would ultimately not succeed because he had no defensive game and no amount of coaching or training was ever going to change that fact. He told me that no top club would be interested in him for that reason. That he was a luxury that no side, in particular, Melbourne could afford. However, I went to games with a sense of anticipation and excitement at what magic he might perform. And he created some great memories that few footballers can do. He was a light that shone briefly but brightly for a speck of time. His story post footy is a tragedy.

  24. The players are responsible as well. Dr Reid is innocent because he wrote an email outlying his concerns, the email was later eaten by his dog.

  25. It's a pity the AFL didn't put up a highlight package of Jurrah playing to compliment the story. You'd think it would have taken all of 5 minutes to put together and it would remind people of his extraordinary skills. Jurrah faced the biggest adjustment of any footballer to play the game at AFL level. When he arrived in Melbourne he didn't know how to get money out of an ATM, he didn't know how to buy food at the supermarket, he didn't know how to drive in the city and he didn't know what was involved in representing an AFL club. He landed on Mars. Melbourne organized Ian Flack to basically be Jurrah's keeper but when Neeld came along with his tough boy stance it wasn't long before a unique talent withered on the vine. Jurrah isn't suited to AFL footy. He comes from a different culture, almost a different world. Just as I couldn't adjust to his world I don't think he can really adjust to ours and that has been shown by the issues he's faced since he left. As much as I loved watching him I wonder if footy didn't ruin his life and I think it probably would again. I'd be astounded if he ever played AFL footy again.

  29. I really don't like the ex concept and I don't buy into it either. Buckley is in the midst of epic failing at Collingwood, just like Hird at Essendon and Voss at Brisbane. I understand the romanticism but the best thing possible for the club should always be top priority.

  34. It's just part of sport. We love a good rivalry or grudge, it's part of the passion. I don't think anyone wishes him genuine harm or ill-will, it's all just part of the theatre of sport.

  35. It's foolish placing that much weight in the words of a 19-20 year old. He was placed in, what was at that time, an unprecedented situation. And with all due respect to the great Jim, I'd hope he would've understood that. I was a little annoyed at the time but in hindsight it's difficult to place too much blame on the young man. Holding a grudge against him after all this time just seems so crazy to me, especially in light of how well it turned out from our end.

  36. I think you're arguing that though it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it could still be a warthog. Have you ever signed a consent form for something that didn't happen?

  37. Well actually they are two different things. 1. Taking the money. Agree he would have been stupid not to. I don't blame him for leaving, considering what we got, I am thrilled about it. 2. Lying to Jimmy. Disagree. Whatever Jimmy got wrong as President, he was a Legend Player of the Club, who happened to be dying. He deserved the truth. It could have been kept confidential if needed. 3. I add this one. Lying to the members. He didn't need to. He could have just said he will consider it when the season ended or no comment.

  39. Essendon faithful: 'but but but but we were told it was fine, ASADA said so in a letter we can't produce, and Dank called them and asked and they said it was fine (even though they actually said to check further), and everyone else was using it, and it's ASADA's fault as they are completely incompetent. HIRD RULES!!!!!!!!!'.

  43. nutbean I thought you would have contributed something like the latest form of technology for waffles. My wife loves waffles. In fact, she is not immune to waffling on. Isn't there a device of such so she can playback and hear herself waffle? Incidentally, this 6 piece logo evolution pin set needs updating: -

  45. Not much good can really come from this thread. You don't want to be disrespectful to guys who have worn the jumper, but clearly if these two are getting games next season, things aren't entirely going to plan. It's safe to say we've seen the best of them. Jones is now 28. It is in all likelihood their last season.

  46. Yep, it was definitely under Neeld. Howe was never going to be part of our future though. Doesn't fit the mould of a competitor IMO.

  47. That match was #1 for mine by a clear margin. Just being there was amazing! Then running over to the race to cheer the players off, still in disbelief at what we'd just done.

  48. I think it's pretty obvious Howe was pushed. He was told his contract and game time would be limited. The only reason he was played when he shouldn't have been last season was to ensure we didn't tarnish his trade value. People can argue all they like about that, but Roos did it with Frawley as well.
