  5. OK, OK, on reflection I got a little carried away on "people getting stuck into me". I really could not care if people did. Anyway, I will blame it on the red wine making me want to unnecessarily big note myself. My apologies.

  6. My understanding is that he would be a delisted free agent and able to go to the club of his choice. He would not be required to go through the draft. It is also my understanding that he retired knowing that this was an option. I understand he has never completely given up on playing AFL again for Melbourne if his mental health improved as such. I was told all this the week before he retired.

  7. Just noticed he will be up my way this Saturday (wangaratta). Il be watching the TAC game aswelk and will definitely go up and shake his hand and mention that I probably speak on behalf of most supporters that I thank him for bringing back the enjoyment of supporting the Melbourne Football Club again.

  8. Many well meaning individuals came to our club in fairly recent times with good intent and yet we continued rocking and rolling along a dubious track until the inevitable happened and we derailed. In Railway terminology we were in the dirt !! The planets aligned and gods conspired and lo and behold one Peter Jackson emerges from the mist and takes charge. I suggest , with deference to any good works prior , that all MAJOR things good came to be as of this man taking the helm. There are those out there with influence, who have ears and have the ear. I implore these to do all that can be done to convince this man to remain at his desk for the foreseeable future. Obviously Roos gets on well with this man and they share a vision. Both are important but in this instance this topic is about retaining PJ. Those that can.......make it happen..........pls

  9. What is with the flute in the background of the review? He is talking about improving a footy team - not defeating Sauron down at Mordor. Although if we beat Geelong down there he can keep the flute...

  10. Why would a life long Football person with a passion for developing footballers, switch across to become a business man managing a football club? The pinnacle is to COACH a Premiership team, not be CEO of a Premiership team. Roos would look at Head of Football dept, or development role. To suggest CEO implies you don't know whats involved in being a successful CEO.

  11. I expect frawley and jetta to come in that's all. Roosy doesn't try to change the team to much. For those saying about Jones missing the birth it isn't for another 6 weeks. Hopefully she comes early. But look at the type of guy Jones is. Of course he will be at the birth of his first child and good on him on being there for his wife and giving her his full support. Plus touch wood this never happens but not all births go according to plan. Things can happen to cause distress to the mother. Also its his first. he'd never miss it and people shouldn't expect him to.

  13. I was interested when Tyson said last week that he always intended on returning to Victoria, and it just ended up happening sooner than he'd expected. I wonder how many GWS players have the same mindset.

  16. The kid is living with Jack Viney... is there one other guy in the Dees list who you would prefer Jesse live with. You can count on Jack to have the personality, attitude and the passion for the club required to keep him interested. His blind love for the club is sure to rub off.

  17. I love the fact that when we beat teams they are in 'crisis'. Carlton, Adelaide, Richmond. Fantastic. Happy for other teams to take heat while we go about our business of improving. Wait till we knock of Port. It won't be "the Dees have genuinely improved" but more likely "Port didn't turn up to play after being up for so many weeks and the pressure of being on top of the ladder. I;ll be super happy if that happens as well!

  18. I have 10 cases of premium beer riding on it that we won't finish in the bottom four this year. The mate with whom I have the bet was demanding delivery of the beers after round 2. He's not so cocky anymore.

  19. I don't think roo's can commit any longer due to scaring off any potential Sucsessor. If He commits longer a potential coach may think is he willing to hand the team over in 2 years time or will he take on an extra year. I think Roos will stay on until he finds the right man for the job to take over from after a 2 year apprenticeship under him

  20. It comes across as harsh, but not just for the sake of it. It looks like defensive running is the non-negotiable. Even Michie got 30 possessions but is plainly told his defensive running needs work. So it looks like Roos practice is not so much to drop players from the AFL 22, as it is to elevate people who earn it by repeated efforts at VFL level.

  21. On AFL 360 tonight they crossed to Dawes who is at the MCG for the Sleep at the 'G and Robbo asked him who he will be sleeping next to tonight. Dawes' response (or words to the effect): "Alex Rance as he is still laying down somewhere on the half-forward flank". Whack! Classic response.

  22. http://boundforglorynews.com/afl-bloodlines-potential-father-son-nominations/ MELBOURNE Jake Lovett (Danenong Stingrays) Son of: Brett Height: 192 cm Weight: 80 kg Position: Utility 2014 Games: 1 Draft Eligible: 2015 Melbourne fans would be salivating over the prospect of running machine, Jake Lovett. Although a different type of player to his father, Jake is a high-possession winning on-baller, with damaging disposal and has a tendency to be aggressive. Although he’s played just the one game so far, he didn’t disappoint. In round five against the Western Jets, the smooth moving live-wire was a ball magnet, running through the midfield and pushing forward at will. His line-breaking runs were of serious note, as he collected 21 disposals to match his three marks and five tackles. Oozing class, Lovett finished with a tidy disposal efficiency of 76 per cent and was named in Dandenong’s best despite a three-point loss to the Western Jets. Billy Stretch (Glenelg) Son of: Steven Height: 179 cm Weight: 70 kg Position: Wing/Half Forward Flank 2014 Games: 2 Average Stats: 10 disposals 1.5 tackles, 1 goal Draft Eligible: 2014 Known for his elite running capacity and his damaging kicking efficiency, Billy Stretch has got class in spades. His kicking efficiency ranks in the elite – and that’s off both sides. Playing for Glenelg, Stretch was selected in the three senior trial games, where he made an influence and would’ve kept his place in the side had it not been for the AIS’s tour of Europe. The good news is for Stretch, is that upon returning – he slotted straight back into the senior side against Adelaide, and finished with 10 disposals, three tackles and one goal. He’s already tasted what life at Melbourne is like, undergoing placement there for one week under the AFL-AIS program he’s apart of. The plaudits came thick and fast for Stretch who was professional, diligent and took everything the group through at him. Jake Lovett listed as 192cm? Holy crap!! An aggressive and classy 192cm midfielder who can break the lines with his pace?! [censored] me!!!!

  23. Demonland never ceases to amaze me. Last year people were complaining that the reviews of VFL players was too soft, this year the reviews are too critical. Great entertainment though.

  25. That reminded me of another story told last night by Rod Grinter..... Apparently Swooper had arranged for the team to run a cross-country in the Ballarat area, but warned them that parts of it would take them through private property. So they were told to be careful about what they did on the run. Unbeknown to the team he had arranged for a couple of the local yokels to fire some shot-guns as they passed through.......no doubt encouraging a concerted effort on the run, and apparently John thought it hilarious....but perhaps not the players at the time! Again, I doubt we would see that happening today.

  26. I reckon people are reading waaaaaayyyy too much into this. My take on it is that here is a young fit guy who has probably trained / worked out every day since he was a kid. Then came the injuries, and then the Black Dog, during which it can be extremely difficult just to get out of bed, let alone get to the gym and maintain your (physical) health. As others have noted, keeping active physically plays an important part in your mental health, and it would seem Mitch is now at that point, recovery-wise, where he feels he can start being active and healthy again. That doesn't mean he's training for football, or that football is even on his mind. He probably just wants to start feeling good again and is now in a position to work towards that. C + B: You knock others for making definitive statements yet you're adamant he's thrown his life away and will regret his decision forever and day. The truth is that unless you know Mitch personally, or have discussed it with him, you're guessing just like the rest of us...

  27. Are we going to go through this every time a player is injured for more than a couple of months? Depression isn't contagious. I think it is your 4th line - he's a kid who wants to play footy. He has a sore back. The rest is what we read into it.

  30. The thing i am most enjoying about this year is that as Mike Sheehan said he would, Roos has improved every player on the list by 30% imo, and we have Hogan and Trengove to come back and i have a feeling Trenners will be a totally different player when he does. the most rewarding thing for me about our wins is they have scored a couple of goals at the start of each of those games and got the jump on us and we didn't panic, just stuck to our plans, starting to ingrain a belief that we can win every game, even if we are behind. rays of culture starting to shine through.

  31. Ruck depth if nothing else. If we didn't have Spencer we would have been in big trouble during the first month of this season. Unless we can land someone like Gorringe during the trade period, then I'd expect Spencer to stay.

  32. The players are still learning to win, a little bit of composure cost us against the saints, giants suns and dogs, we could have won all 4 as we were ahead in the last quarter of all of those games.

  33. I agree, we had a lot of luck, but I attribute a large part of richmonds poor goal kicking to the pressure we put on them when they took those shots. We were shutting down there forwards inside 50, our mid were chasing hard forcing them to rush shots from 50 out. I still think we would be pressed for 6-8 wins. Id love it and its possible, but we will have to wait and see.

  34. Watch the replay against Richmond again. See how many simple shots on goal they missed. See how many goals we got from pretty fortunate bounces of the ball (Jones, Dawes, Tyson). If luck was against us we could've lost that game. Also see us do so much right in terms of winning contested ball and controlling play and still losing to the dogs who are nothing more than an 8 win side. We are definitely in that 6-8 range and part of that means losing games against other sides of the same level or worse, which means GWS and Saints so far. Just look at the dogs last year who finished well win 8 wins but loss to us at one stage. Plenty of work to go but if you aren't signing up this year on what we've seen then you're either a bit of a lost cause, very stubborn or a band wagon type.

  35. We wouldn't have Roos if that forward line worked out. Same as if we had picked Rockliff, Fyfe or Sloane. If you're happy we have Roos and happy with the direction we're heading in then it's not worth rewriting history because we're in a pretty good place at the moment.

  36. Another good reason is the brand of footy we are beginning to play. Who wouldnt want to come to a club that prides itself on relentless pressure

  37. He was a near certainty, they just couldn't get the deal done. I think they will be reviewing that one as a poor decision, the Tiges that is. Judging by a few posts it seems because Dom came from GWS then his mates will want to join him. I'm not sure that's a compelling reason and who knows which players are his mates anyway. There is a good reason to join us now though and that is the development and opportunity you would get at Melbourne with the quality of Roos, Stone and Allison and onfield leadership now in place to help grow a career.

  39. Dawes just posted a photo of Clark enjoying a CC and dry can whilst playing golf on Instagram. I think it is safe to say he is enjoying his retirement and won't be back. Get over it people. There is happiness to be found outside of AFL footy. Not everyone has the desire to play at the highest level.

  40. Fair comment. I'm not saying he will regret it, because I think he will return... and the time he has missed will have been something he had to do to get his mind right.

  44. Jamar is worth keeping until his play really shows he's finished because you can't find that many above average rucks out there. You need 3 each year and our 3 are Jamar, Spencer and Gawn. King is miles off as a rookie. Fitzpatrick will only ever be a second ruck I think. He's a long way from a starting ruck at AFL level. I think his status is irrelevant to Jamar. He gets a leg up in value from Clark retiring though. Keep Jamar, when the time comes and he really is finished (likely after 2015) we will have a really good understanding of Spencer and Gawn and whether we need to trade aggressively or not.

  45. You can't get rid of Fitzy and Spencer, look what happened at the start of the year. We wouldn't have any ruckmen on the park. Blease could be used as trade bait to get Shiels or Tomlinson from GWS... He would be happy to join his ol mate. T$S$ Nicholson has to go, just not up to it. Tappy ditto Strauss ditto Byrnes Go........ Please. A few weeks ago I would have said WATTS. I'd say he had a cannon up his arse and the penny has dropped. Barry needs more time. Evans I'd give one more year under Roos.

  46. there's no way both spencer and fitzpatrick will be jettisoned simultaneously. it would leaveus with one senior ruckman, a raw giant, and a young kid who needs heaps of development. in fact, i can't see either of them going at this point in time. we need minimum of four ruckmen on the list, and king barely counts as a rookie. my guess is: byrnes - retired clark - retired blease - offered as trade bait, perhaps retained as a rookie strauss - delisted nicholson - delisted evans - delisted tapscott - delisted barry will get another year, perhaps as a rookie.

  48. Watched Swans tonight. Agree 100% that Luke Parker would be a massive get. Tough, skilled, intense. Agree Harry Cunningham is more likely. A rookie upgrade who will be tempted by a 3-yr $150,000 contract at the Dees, and regular game time. Tough, mid-defender type, who can shutdown but also get possies, and also kicks a nice goal. Down the order at Sydney's strong mid group.
