Roos made a play for Kennedy, but this has been rejected. Roos thought that Sydney may require more salary space combined with rumoured dissatisfaction of Kennedy made the offer worth a try. No one was surprised it was rejected, it was always a long shot. If you never ask, you never know.15 points

This bloke has received quite an amount of unreasonable stick on this forum. In the games I saw him play he demonstrated what hard work and hard running means. He would go after a kick, he would chase and tackle hard. He is the sort of player JW should watch carefully. He obviously has a brain and is a leader. I reckon he is a great aquisition to the MFC and it is unfortunate he has suffered a run of injuries. Among the first handfull picked when fit. I hope he gets over his injuries quickly.13 points

Sort of like how Melbourne turned Pick 5 into Brock McLean, Brock McLean into Pick 11, Pick 11 into Jordan Gysberts, Jordan Gysberts into Cam Pedersen (with a downgrade inpicks in North's favour), with Pedersen clogging our list for 3 years. Would love to go through other trading and drafting flows and see if any club can top that.11 points

On the Scully family........I don't see why his family is getting the crap on this site.....All of our wifes/girlfriends/daughters look like Pia Miller don't they???.....He took a once in a lifetime deal that made him a very rich young man......To put crap on his family is just wrong... On Sylvia.........What do you expect him to say....."No, I played my very best at Melbourne....I have no improvement left in me...Freo are fools for taking me"....... Good luck to both players.11 points

I wish I was sufficiently tech savvy to post the photo I have of Col passed out at a nightclub last weekend that a mate texted to me. I don't reckon Ross Lyon would be particularly impressed.9 points

Scully lied to jimmy and to all of us, Simple really. He took the cash - great for him - but treated us like shiite in the process. As well he denigrated our culture with the "un-professional" stuff. he might think that but its poor form to publicly bag us.8 points

If there is a more talented young player in our team that has had to suffer and endure the shortcomings of our rancid game plan and third world midfield it's been McDonald. It's terrible environment where the opposition midfield is running all over yours creating inside 50s a plenty. On the flip side when you do get the ball typically under siege in the back half there are few if at all legit passing options. He has performed admirably given the situation and circumstances. The relentless pressure took is toll on some aspects of McDonalds game but I expect under a good and competent coach, we should see this player mature and blossom. He is a better player than most give credit for.7 points

I reckon Chris is more disappointed than all of us put together. No doubt he'll be trying his best to play round 1 next year. Fingers crossed he makes it.6 points

Oh dear. You should re-read what you have written before hitting the post button - maybe, just maybe, you might avoid sounding like a fool.5 points

Ah yes. Isn't "Beamer" great? He should come back. Fantastic suggestion. We need more dimwitted meatheads.5 points

Nooooooooooo, we don't call them the Four Horsemen. That name has history on this site.5 points

OMG!!! I have been loving reading this forum about the trade rumours etc. Please oh please stop hijacking it to troll back over the Scully crap we've all written and vented a thousand times before. There's still another thread eslewhere for that. Don't ruin a great forum.5 points

Can we keep it above board or just move on? Thankfully, we have used FA to our advantage (imagine that hennypennys) and spun Sylvia into Vince. End of a story, start of a new one.5 points

As an Alice local it's disappointing to read the negativity on here with regards this endeavour. I do understand that some members in Melbourne who are upset due to the fact that these are home games you've probably budgeted to be attending at the G. The fact is our club needs the money and given the NT Governments track record it won't be for peanuts. PJ wouldn't be doing this for kicks, it's a short term measure to pay for our new football department no doubt. We can't all scream for a bloke like Paul Roos to come along and not have to work to pay for it. In a couple if years when were up and flying I'm sure these measures will not be neccasary, but for now they are, especially when there are so few Melbourne supporters bothering to turn up in Victoria. For those that are interested I'll be sure to hook up with a few local supporters and organise an event with the club here and hope that some of you make the effort to attend. It's a stunning time if year to visit the centre of Australia. If it's a day game it'll be sunny and mid-twentys, if it's a night game it'll be as cold as Melbourne but without the rain, so you can stop your sooking and come see the Dees up close on a beautiful footy ground.5 points

Seems like our 9 will get used by us after all....back to the consolation prize of a young gun mid prospect. Its terrible4 points

Well put, although I'll never like Scully due to the way he handled the situation (although I accept it wasn't an easy situation for a young man) and I certainly never wish "luck" to any player that leaves. I don't begrudge players leaving, but I never ever wish them well. Call it a character flaw.4 points

Geez Bub take a breath, a tad irrational from you I think, I get that your [censored] but stop and read my post. WE NEED THE MONEY MATE! We are in DEBT. Blaming the AFL?! Mate they just bailed us out big time. I think you'll find that old mate Schwab got us into playing in the NT and I think you'll also find its PJ making the most of it. How else do you expect to pay for a coach like Paul Roos, buy packing out the G against Port on a Sunday afternoon? I've never read such a cynical [censored] post from a well regarded regular.4 points

sounds like weagles at it again. next we will hear he has a drinking problem and got expelled from school3 points

If so, either they're leaving it very late, or they have plans that haven't been caught wind of in the media yet. I'm inclined to go with the former. Brisbane of 2013 has exhibited management decisions rivalling Melbourne of 2007-2013, which is to say, deplorable.3 points

If you cannot get on the park you are useless. And people were worrying about how we would fit Hogan, Fitzy, Clark and Dawes into the forward line. I am glad we did not trade Fitzy as some wanted.3 points

Those Polec and Docherty trades are truly horrible from a Brisbane perspective.3 points

Somebody made a good point earlier - GWS' hand were forced as Adams was not going to agree to a trade to any other club. Therefore GWS could let him walk for free or trade for Shaw, the lesser blow. Of course they could have threatened to pick up Adams in the PSD with their pick but that would be a pointless action; there'd be too much dissent between the parties and GWS would be wasting a valuable pick.3 points

I can understand our need to press into new markets to attract new supporters/sponsors/members but my issue with NT is there's just no-one there. A quick google search shows Darwin's population as at 2010 was about 125K, Alice's in 2011 was 25K. Is there really an opportunity for growth there? I'd rather play in Canberra who, while still a small city, at least has quite a large regional population close by. The other issue is whether this is going to be a long term relationship or not; if yes, then I think it will really prohibit our club down the track when we are (hopefully) pushing for and playing in finals. If it's only a short-term cash injection then we will lose the goodwill of the locals, similarly to what North did when they were hopping around the country in the late 90's, early 2000's.What happens then if we fall on hard times again? Will they welcome us back with open arms or will it be a case of once bitten, twice shy? Will they ahve formed a relationship with someone else? All of this of course doesn't even account for the immediate effects on the team & club. Will we be scheduled to play 6 interstate trips on top of our NT games, meaning 8 road games? Will we have another game at Geelong meaning only 13 Melbourne games? Will we also have a Docklands home game meaning only 8 home games left at the G. Who will our other home games be against, will we get more than 2 home MCG games against Vic clubs (generally only Collingwood and Hawthorn the last few years). Will we still be scheduled to play GWS, Gold Coast, Brisbane, West Coast etc on Mothers Day, Easter Sunday, Sunday twilight games? We'll find out next week but hopefully we have at least negotiated to have several MCG home games against the larger drawing Vic clubs (Carlton, Essendon, Richmond) instead of our usual dog's breakfast draw of Queen's Birthday, one other big drawing Vic club at home and a bunch of interstate franchises with little to no support or interest.3 points

I will say yes. I would also say that there would also be some disadvantages of bringing young blokes familiar to each other to the same footy club.3 points

There's simply no way to put a good spin on selling games to NT (even if the weather was reasonable).3 points

So, from reading the last couple of pages, I gather that there is NO new trade news.3 points

The Round 11 match will be in the cool of an Alice Springs Saturday night in June. Then there'd be a 9-day break before the Collingwood game on QB. We'd be complete sooks if we couldn't handle that.3 points
-
Hard to see the downside of the Alice Springs game in winter. It won't be hot and it's a shorter round trip than Melbourne-Perth. The argument that travelling is somehow a problem is a fallacy. West Coast and Fremantle have been coping with it since their inception.3 points

As an Alice local, this is awesome news. The easiest way for us to see Melbourne play is either: Adelaide, which seems like an awful thing to do given our tendency to get thumped by 12 goal margins or Darwin, which is pretty expensive to get to. The few Melbourne supporters (and Port) I know here will be pumped. As for the February game; it'll be just like that heat training we did last year in Darwin. That really paid off...3 points

Last year we needed mids and we got Gillies, Byrnes, Pedersen and a bloke who'd done his knee 16 times. Cross costs us NOTHING, has a legendary training ethic and averages 22+ possessions per game. The Dogs are opposite to us. With Libba, Wallis, Boyd, Griffen, Cooney and Koby Stevens they're well stocked for mids PLUS they want to get games into Smith, Hrovat, and Macrae. It made sense to move Cross on. They don't need him. But for a year, or maybe two he'd be handy for us. It's hard to be too displeased with this deal, but you found a way.3 points

C'mon guys, let's not give Tom Scully any relevance. Moving along... If we could get AT for pick 9, that is a VERY good trade.2 points

I always thought Jobe Watson was too slow and one paced until he won a Brownlow - we could use someone like him right now. I think Sheed might be one of those in the sneaky quick category, where he looks slow & laconic to the eye, but the reports are that he hardly ever gets caught with the ball.2 points

This really gets my goat Sylvia harping on from afl.com "I don't feel like I've reached my potential yet so that’s all ahead of me," he said. "I'd like to play some more consistent footy. I think I had a pretty consistent year (in 2013) without any real breakout games but I think playing with a football club like Fremantle, they demand excellence and hopefully they can take me to the next level." I especially like the bit "hopefully they can take me to the next level" Ah no Colin u should have helped yourself too that would have been nice. Glad he us gone tbh.2 points
