  1. Introducing Dom Tyson, Bernie Vince & Viv Michie.

  2. Why do you say that? Vince has him covered in every stat in 2013. More disposals, more goals, more marks, higher disposal efficiency - all despite spending less time on the ground than SYlvia http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?tid1=2&pid1=1638&tid2=12&pid2=1383&type=A&fid1=S&fid2=S And they are the same age. Give me Vince over Sylvia any day of the week

  6. Played with and against Lennon and Billings since under 9's JB- Is pure class. Would definitely add silk to our list which we so desperately need. He's played a lot of midfield in his junior days but due to his size, for the moment, he will best suited to a half forward flank type player. Both Lennon and his best mate Luke McDonald have longer kicks than him, however i would rate JB as the most elite kick. Never misses a target and is so calm and calculated with the ball in hand. Very Pendlebury like in how he always has time with footy in hand. Would be a great get at number #9, however he isnt quite the grunt inside midfielder we need (although we need that less so now with tyson, mitchie, vince) BL- The best thing about Lennon is he developed early and was playing key forward most of his junior career. This has meant he's great over head and kicks goals. Now others have caught up to him in size, he's learnt to play as a midfielder but his key forward attributes have stayed with him. one of the best kicks I've seen as he can hit targets at any range up to about 60m. Additionally he played in a pretty bad team right throughout his junior career (JB was able to play with McDonald and Kennedy-harris in a dominant team), so he knows how to work hard and never give up in a losing side. too be honest i'd rather Freeman or Crouch at pick #9 as i feel they are more natural mids and the inside type we need, however either Lennon or Billings would be great gets and would add some real diversity and class to our list

  9. Seriously C&B? We've just had the worst period in maybe our history. We have a clean out, land a capable CEO that helps land one of the coaches of the decade. Have a pretty great trade period landing some talent and addressing our needs. Yet Liam friggin Jurrah is on your mind? We don't even need a forward. Let alone an injury prone one that has let us and himself down once (twice, three times..) already. Let's move on. Enjoy building a team of committed footballers that will drive a better culture and make the most of the opportunities they've been given.

  10. Looking at some of these teams, I reckon we're still two to three midfielders away from our target. That said, I think we'll be more competitive next year. Let's say the aim for a side is to have 10 genuine midfielders that can rotate through the middle. Those players must also be able to contribute outside of the centre square. I would hope next season, the following names fill some of those slots: Jones, Viney, Tyson, Michie, Vince, pick #9 and I'm going to assume we still go for a player like Cross. That gives us seven genuine onballers (under the assumption that pick #9 will be a genuine onballer). The other guys that I would hope rotate through are Trengove (hopefully rejuvenated, having relinquished the captaincy) & McKenzie (if he can improve his decision-making and therefore probably disposal). In an improved side, I would hope Matt Jones would get less of a look in. The beauty is it may only take another draft/trade/FA period to add two to three mids. I'd look at one or two trades and then go to the draft with one or two of our high picks. Sure, Cross and Vince won't last us much longer, but with improved onfield performance, FA will become our friend. If we continue about our business in a similar fashion to trade period this year, we're probably two to three years from being a side that could compete for a finals birth. Given where we're coming from, that's heartening. Before I post my team, I'd say that Terlich may see reduced game time in '14. Roos seems to see what I see and that is a bloke that gets a fair bit of it, but butchers the ball and struggles to blanket his opponent. He has really poor defensive skills if you watch him closely in some '13 games. I think he'll give him one year and if there's no improvement, he'll move him on. Consequently, I won't include him in my team. (Bring that Demonland hate! ) Clisby Frawley Garland Grimes McDonald Toumpas Michie Jones Watts Vince Clark Trengove Hogan Dawes Kent Foll: Gawn Viney Tyson Int: Howe Pick #9 Cross Sub: Blease Emerg: McKenzie Fitzpatrick M Jones Toumpas' kicking will be of vital importance and that's why I'd play him off half back. The defensive side of his game can then be drilled and he can utilise his excellent kicking to help us rebound. The ability to hit targets coming out of the back half is paramount. How many bloody goals did we concede directly on the turn over this year? I'd hate to see the numbers. It'd be simply staggering. Kent seems like a Roos-type player to me. He's big-bodied, his disposal is good and he breaks the lines. If he can build up that tank, I could see him running both ways. Obviously not sold on his output thus far, but a pre-season or two under Roos and he may well get there. I'd have Watts on the wing. Roos has signalled his intentions with regards to Jack and his positioning. He may well float between wing and half forward, but I reckon like Toumpas, Watts' ability with ball in hand could be devastating. If he's well-drilled, lays tackles and runs hard both ways, he could become more damaging than Goddard in his prime. I truly believe that. I'm really hesitant to include Grimes, because I'm not a big fan of his decision-making and disposal. He can certainly win the ball, but he turns it over too much for mine. It's a dangerous position to be playing in, if one is turning it over too. However, for now, I'll put him on the back flank. Cilsby is the other guy I'm not completely sold on yet, but he's only played a few games and I'd back him in for the first few games of '14. If Strauss is still on our list by the end of this year, I'd be rotating between he and Clisby. We still lack that solid, small defender, though Garland is capable of shutting down those types. Finally, the major question I have of this line up, is the distinct lack of speed or line-breaking ability. Roos' style though is more about gut running and essentially running the opposition off their feet. So perhaps it's less about pace and more an issue of fitness? Enter Sam Blease. I've got him as the sub. He is one guy that could come on and inject a bit of pace into the game. Equally though, he is one with massive question marks over his tank and aerobic capacity/ability/potential. It'll be fascinating to see if Roos can get him working both ways and whether Misson can increase his tank.

  11. He'll probably play more games than Maric, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott and Gysberts! And if we don't start winning games in the next 24 months then what does it matter no one will play 100 games for us again! Vince for 23 isn't great. Vince for Sylvia is pretty good

  14. Vince is a far better midfielder than Sylvia, while Sylvia is more damaging ahead of the ball. Vince >> Sylvia Sylvia is a hopeless mid. He can't handball, is hopeless in close, spends his life tackling at stoppages, because he can't get the first tough - reads the play poorly, and rushes his dispoal because he always thinks he has someone up his clacker. Sylvia is a very good finisher and is suited to a flank with the occasional run on the ball. Vince kills him and hurts the opposition far more with his disposals.

  16. Why are we acting all indignant about Hawthorn only acting in the interests of Hawthorn? All clubs argue the point that serves themselves, that's the nature of any heavily regulated business. I'd expect nothing less from the MFC if we were in the same boat.

  17. Yeah, Vince is ours. Michie, Vince, Tyson, pick 9, will really help Viney, Jones, and a hopefully fresh Trengove. Pretty exciting really. A new game plan, confidence in the club's direction, Hogan, a fit Clark and Dawes and we can genuinely start to gather momentum if we kick some early goals. Well done to Mahoney, Roos, etc.

  19. Stop harping on about this. Yes we can maintain Frawley and he will be resigning. And to add, as he is a restricted free agent, we can match the offer he gets (if he is unsigned, but he won't be) and force him to stay. We'd match any offer and he won't want to risk going to the draft. But we won't have to worry about that because he will re-sign.

  20. Freeman is excellent at stoppages and has explosive pace. We need pace. It's probably a no brainer.

  21. Sorry not trade related What grates my goat is that we have to endure another preseason of how good training is etc etc etc. I will be relieved/exited come round 1 if we are competitive or heaven for bid we win. Until rd1 I am excited but very very wary of what will happen next season. I suppose that's what the last 7 seasons have done to me.

  22. Funny how Sydney, when Paul Roos was in charged recruited a kid called Josh Kennedy who had only played 13 games with the Hawks and battled soft tissue injuries and couldn't break into the line up, went on to then become one of the best Inside Mids in the competition. Tyson has played 13 games, battled a bit of injury and plays the same role as Kennedy.. Connect the dots??

  24. Vince just replaced Sylvia. I'd still like Cross to come in to add experience to our midfield. Dom and Viv have only played 14 games between them so we are still an inexperienced midfield unit. Even if he is only depth I'd much tether have Cross coming in than Bail or Nicholson if we need it. We really need to start winning games.

  27. Tyson is the closest player to Pendlebury currently running around. Here's hoping he's over his injuries. No. 29 in this short under age clip. You'll see his mate no. 7 (Viney) too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpy4mj2Zqhc

  28. Dom Tyson is quality. If he can stay fit and on the park, it's a great choice. The interesting thing coming from the Tyson and Michie gets, and the off field recruits (Stone, Miller ....) is the investment in culture. Dom Tyson was a uniquely impressive character for his age when I had contact with him 2 years ago (and I can tell you will be rapt to come home) and according to some of of the reports on here about Michie, he has a great rep also. When you think of the character of Nat Jones, Jack Viney, Jacks Trengove and Grimes, and Jimmy Toumpas from the midfield alone, I think there's as much an effort to build culture and ethic at the 'New Roos Dees', as there is to recruit talent and plug holes. We can see what you're doing Paul Roos, and we LIKE it! :-)

  30. Hi Demonlanders, I've just moved recently from Toowoomba QLD to Melbourne. I have been listening to triple m which has been great. I came across another station SEN.....what is it with the guy called Greg Denham or what ever his name is. What is his problem with the demons? He has a dig every opportunity he gets. Is this standard of him. It really [censored] me off after a while and I had to turn it off. I love my demons so much that I would knock this guy out if I got the chance........please tell me he is not always like that. That's my Friday rant. By the way I love melbourne and can't wait for my membership to arrive. Can't wait to watch the demons in 2014 and beyond.....carn the demons

  35. I'm sitting here reading this crap. I can't believe how many people do not understand the strategic approach the club has just been through in this trading. The most sophisticated in years, and I believe will set us up for the 8 in one to two years, and a grand final within three. To do that we need to ensure we do not allow our list to be raided as it was with Sylvia. Bernie Vince is a better more consistent player than Colin ever was, and is the same age as Colin. His coming to the club is via Colin's pick. It is a no brainier. I do wish these whingers would think more strategically on some of these issues.

  36. Yours is the closest to mine. I too can see Toumpas playing a role off half back. Right now he's not good enough for a midfield rotation in a Paul Roos side. I also prefer Clisby to Terlich, although the latter will play games and I admire his courage. McKenzie ? Haha Matt Jones is OK and did very well in his first year, but if he's a first choice mid we're still doomed. Bail, Evans, etc will struggle to get a game depending on injury. I quite like the idea of Howe down back, but I'll select him forward. Pick 9 should be able to get regular games, as they'll pick a young mid who's ready to get experience. I guess pick 9 will play 6-10 games. I want to see Frawley at CHB where he can start using his run. I'm hoping Taggert can have a big summer, so he's was my speculative pick, but I'll change him for Cross. Clisby Frawley McDonald Grimes Garland Toumpas Vince Jones Watts Trengove Clark Howe Hogan Dawes Kent Foll: Gawn Tyson Viney Int: Michie Pick #9 Cross Sub: Blease Emerg: Terlich Fitzpatrick M Jones

  37. We only have two players - Jamar and Byrnes - on the list born before 1988 so from an experience point of view and looking at the list dynamic, it makes sense to get some 27-28 year olds in. I personally love him as a player, purely because he is a fantastic two-sided kick. As a club, we haven't had that kind of precision very often and he'll be useful setting up across half-back and kicking long goals. The concern is he has become inconsistent and in and out of games more these last couple of years. If he can find his best form and be in the 25 possession per game level, he will be our best midfielder by a mile. Because he is such a good kick other teams will have to put time into him which will help Jones and Watts and co as well. Ideally you want to have high picks, but I think Vince will play 5 years. He was an old draft pick (20yo) and only played a handful of Sanfl games so you've got to believe he has four years in him at worst and at least three of them in his prime. I don't think it's a great trade in terms of value necessarily but it's certainly not a bad one, but I fully expect Vince to be one of our best players for three years at least for what that is worth. If he finds his best high workrate/possession winning form, he will be one of the best players we have had at the club for quite a while.

  39. Sticks in my mind watching Vince play in the SANFL last year. They dropped him back for disciplinary reasons and he punished the SANFL. Bernie's ability to rack up the ball the day I watched him in the SANFL, I thought this guy is footballers footballer. Bernie has the ability to rival Jones as a key midfielder, hopefully he can get close. Don't worry about pick 23, worry about our midfield next year and the year after, because if it's not up to it - what do we tell young Jesse? It's up to the MFC to start producing and showing players that we are the club they should be sticking with. Frawley and Hogan are our two main worries and we can't afford to bank on a kid at 23, we don't have that luxury.

  44. I'm interested in him because he sounds like a younger and better version of Terlich. U18 All-Australian defender and Vic Country's MVP. Can apparently play midfield too. The fact that he is Nathan's brother adds 'intangibles', would make his transition into AFL footy much easier.

  45. Actually, I agree that Hawthorn should have been better compensated for losing Franklin and we should never have received a pick four behind the one they got. In case you didn't notice, the victim here is Hawthorn. The point I was making is that their President went away on a junket supposedly to look at ways of equalising the competition and since he left, he and his club have done exactly the opposite. It's the hypocrisy of his club doing this that I abhor.

  49. Weight: 78kgTeam/Club: Victoria Metro/Northern Knights/Ivanhoe GrammarPosition: Half Forward/Half BackPlayer Comparision: Dustin Martin/Dayne Beams (forward version)Draft Range: 7-15 Player Profile Ben Lennon is very much in the mould of a Dustin Martin type, in that he can play virtually anywhere between midfield and deep forward where his strength and marking power see him play a key forward position, despite being only 188cms. Gifted with versatility and explosiveness, Lennon makes big impacts on games no matter which position he plays in. Some prefer him up forward, where his marking ability is second to none, and his goal nous – either on the run or from a set shot is ultra-reliable. Lennon has a booming kick that penetrates well over 60 metres, which if in defence, plays a bit similar to Shannon Hurn. Up forward, Lennon is very smart, he does like to wheel around and carry on after marking and can finish with ease from outside 50, or hit up a target inside 50 lace out. Lennon has terrific pace, makes multiple leads, and has his running patterns down pat. Not only a brilliant tracker of the ball, Lennon is also very agile, mobile and clean beneath his knees and has a knack of kicking multiple goals. Earlier in the championships, when Lennon played out of defence, his whopping kick cut through zones, and sometimes cleared them, allowing Metro to go coast-to-coast with ease. However, it’s his form torwards the later end of the TAC Cup home and away season as well as the finals series, where he has demonstrated a huge ability to roll through the midfield for the Knights, and play very much as an attacking midfielder which has really shot him into contention to go as early as pick 7 to the Brisbane Lions. His first final against Gippsland was reflective of this, having twenty-five disposals, five tackles, seven inside 50′s whilst kicking three goals. A big time player, who stamps his authority and dominance on the game. Quote ”I think I’ll always be a half-forward, so I am comfortable playing there. If I can get as comfortable playing in the midfield I’ll be pretty happy.”
