  2. So your point......are you saying Lyon is crap because at one point in one game he wanted full autonomy over the coaches box? Are you also saying because at one point, in one game Sanderson stopped to listen to Bailey that he is a great coach (presumably because he won the game?). Then is your contention that due to the nature of these observations and conclusions that as mark Neeld wanted full time to think at one point in one game that he therefore is crap? I have heard of drawing a long bow, but that is ridiculous. If you think Mark Neeld is crap, at least put up a logical and supportable argument. I will wager that if I got vision of ALL coaches for the full year I will find times when each and every one of them do both what Lyon and what Sanderson did. If we are going to say that DB took us to 10th last year and he is some what of a superstar football whisperer we probably should raise that he at the very same time oversaw the arcing greatest every losing margin in AFL / VFL history in his last game. If you are also going to say that Craig is no good and he was responsible for the 14th finish in 2011, you may also want to see what other results he ha with the teammover his tenure (multiple preliminary finals etc) Can't see the validity in your post at all

  5. Yes, your alleged support of the MFC feels out of whack. [censored] off and barrack for Adelaide or Freo.

  6. I wouldn't have had Naitanui in the squad of 40, but for him to be named first ruck is the worst decision in AA history. It's very much a populist vote and borders on reverse racism. If one dismisses those ruckman with less than 10 games he averages equal 14th in hitouts. Maric and Jacobs average more possessions, more hitouts and more marks. Jacobs has the most hitouts to advantage in the league. Naitanui kicked more goals because he played forward so much. Which is another reason he should never have been number one ruck. Will Minson had a better year. Disgraceful.

  7. Cyril had 2 games for the year of 20 or more possessions and 2 games for the year of 2 goals or more. How that gets you in the squad let alone the team is beyond me. Natanui as starting ruck is laughable. Great to see Dempster get the nod as he is very under rated.

  8. I'm over all this crap about where we take Viney. Like Nathan Jones said at the B&F it's time for all players to buy in or buy out. The tone has been set and I think J Viney will buy in and drag this club back to were it belongs. Pick 3, 4 or 23 - it's not a big deal when you have a young hungry tough kid like this ready to rumble RND 1 2013. I can't wait. Let's worry about pick 4 and 13, not Jack. He should be our number 1 pick because his ready and loves the Dees.

  9. I don't understand the people who wonder about forcing their kids to support the Demons! My fiancé is a Geelong supporter and I have made it clear that our kids will barrack for the Demons no matter how many flags the Cats win. She doesn't go to games, I do and I'll be takin the kids along with me and the rest of my family. We don't have enough supporters as it is and you wonder about recruiting your kids in no wonder we have an aging membership - I know that this is not an issue in Collingwood or Carlton households. Just remember the crap years won't last forever and the good times will come again even though it seems a million miles away at the moment. Supporting the MFC builds character which is a lot more than can be said for those born into or bandwagoning on clubs like Essendon or Hawthorn.

  10. I could not give a toss whether he is forward or back as long as he owns that position and gives himself every opportunity to play it to the best of his abilities. If he does the rest will look after itself.

  11. To say a near 27 year old "has plenty of improvement in him" is really answering its own question. He is an ok ruckman, an ok backman and a mediocre forward. He is not soft but does not play with an aggression expected of one with his physique. His natural athleticism occasionally allows him to do acts that make your mouth water. In some it makes them forget the times when his lack of football nous shows the exact opposite. He is not to be gotten rid of for anything but he is exactly the type of second string player who has true currency that could improve our overall list position.

  14. Not good is it, his party tricks didn't stand up under real pressure on Saturday night. Healy loves him, Bartlett loves him, say no more. Jacobs and the Mullet a bit stiff I would have thought.

  20. I don't mind it, the last 5-10 seconds where the song winds up and then 70k start squawking out support of their two teams, gets the spine tingling for mine, its a nice tradition to keep for the finals.

  21. I love the MFC and always will. But like a family member, if they keep F$&@ing up there is a time where you just have to walk. We are not at that point yet. But if we don't play hard ball with Free Agency and recruit players we need for NOW & not in 5 years time we will go down. The gap between top & bottom clubs is getting wider. The time is now to pull it back otherwise it will not happen.

Just need to hope Tex kicks 10 straight and we will win" Sando "Good stuff Bails-How we we go against the Hawks" "We'll just march down the guts and they'll stand aside" "Cool"

  26. Some players will play better as the 4-5th string mid. Others will rise to the occasion of being the main man. Wellingham showed last year he could be the latter. He is exactly the type of player we should target.

  27. lets get a few 'facts' correct here Watts is 21 (not 22) He has had 4 years (not 5) His first year shouldn't count as he was under-age and finishing school (unlike his contemporaries) So 21 and effectively 3 years carry on gentlemen

  30. Calm down. Gysberts is a talent but if you don't want to put the work in to get the most out of yourself, you can leave. He has had his injury issues but he turned up to PS training the most unfit of every single player on the list. Every single player. I don't know why you have such an affinity for players who have played less good games than you have fingers on your hand. How about they earn our admiration from now on?

  31. It;s just not BT and Channel 7. The whole AFL media are horrible and there's no accountability for any of it. One thing that really grinded my gears this weekend was Brian Taylor on Saturday Night making the comment that Collingwood are now through to their 7th Prelim Final in 9 years. I also heard Channel 10 run with the same stat and at least one other media organisation do the same yet i can't remember who. Funny thing is these are Collinwood's results over the last 9 years. 2012: Prelim Final* 2011: Runners Up 2010: Premiers 2009: Prelim Final 2008: Semi Final 2007: Prelim Final 2006: Elimination Final 2005: Did Not Play Finals 2004: Did Not Play Finals If you were to go back to 2003 & 2002 they were runners up both those years, but otherwise I count 5 Prelims in 9 years, not the 7 the whole AFL media seem to be running with! The standard is at an all time low. How I wish the only AFL media I could read was written by Martin Flannagan and every game I watched was called by Clinton Grybas (rest in peace), Gerard Whateley, Matthew Lloyd (special comments) and Tiffany Cherry (boundary rider).

  32. I will die a demon! Regardless of how many games I can get to I will always support them via my membership. What might be conditional for me is my support for Aussie Rules footy itself. Its all the rubbish that comes from the MRP, the control freak mentality of the AFL and the moronic media that is doing my head in. But I will die a demon.

  34. Melbourne circles Sharrod Wellingham as Collingwood midfielder remains unsigned We're all over him according to to Jon Ralph, which means he's probably headed anywhere but Melbourne, but read into it what you will.

  35. Family is more important than anything else. But MFC is something that is intertwined with family for me. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood involve going to the footy with my dad. Now it's something I share with my brother. And my nephew has just started going to games, so we will continue to go and support our team. Like all family life, suffering through bad times only brings us closer.

  37. The players change, the coach will change and the board/administrators change but the club remains the constant and I support the club. It's let me down before and it will let me down again, probably many times, but it's there for me to take my kids and grand kids too and I've had too many good times to abandon it. Not just winning times but times where I've had some great days just being there with them.

  38. Hogan finished on 24 possessions, 10 marks, 19 kicks and 4 goals, plus 136 DT points. As for not having the same physical advantage at AFL level ? He's not a slow bullocking key forward that is rag dolling skinny kids. He's a big agile aggressive key forward with excellent pace, who can also go into the midfield. His traits translate anywhere. He's a gun and we must get him. Whatever it takes.

  39. The Eighties were OK. I remember the Drake sponsorship period as a meteoric rise from crapsville to within reach of the Grail. Pity Hawthorns plane didn't go down. Did I just say that? That's terrible. I'm ashamed.

  40. No ,my support is conditional. Every year I lay out my conditions to the club in a written document for the season entitled: Biffs Conditions for season 20--. The club usually responds by written letter agreeing to every one of my demands . The playing group then ignore the club and do whatever they want so every two years I put in a "sack the coach" automatic condition as well as a "sack the skip" clause every third year. Every fourth year I have a "sack the board" clause in my conditions for my continued personal support . In this way I manage to destroy any continuity or longevity of plans for the club and keep it a laughing stock so my friends can give me a stupid condescending smile/ look every time we talk footy or the Demons .

  41. Obviously Wellingham benefits from Collingwood's star studded midfield, but he is still a good midfielder, probably a B Grader just like Nathan Jones. He has spent a lot of time this year on a Half Forward Flank so we know he is not one dimensional like Moloney. He could become a better player with more midfield time and more responsibility. He also comes from an elite club and is the right age to give us 100 games of service while Trengove, Grimes, Viney, Taggert, O'Rourke/Toumpas etc continue to develop. $600k is overs but as proven by offering Mackay $2m over 4 years, we are going to have to spend big on a B grader to get anyone across. $600k is probably only $100-$150k more than what Moloney earned this year. Stef Martin is the perfect trade-bait now that we have signed Jamar for 3 years. He is a ruckman first and foremost. He has never dominated a game forward or back - only glimpses. He needs to go somewhere that he can be the no 1 ruck and spend only 20% of his time forward. We must trade Martin this year because another season rotting at half forwrard, jumping at contests with one hand like a basketballer will only diminish his trade-value even further.

  42. He has benefited from being in a midfield of swan, thomas, pendelbury, ball, beams etc. Never had the No 1 or 2 tag applied to him and not convinced he would be a gun in our side. He is a handy player in a gun midfield at the moement

  43. but caddy hasn't PROVEN anything to suggest he will turn out any better than the many talented kids i would take ahead of him. only that he has had 2more years in an afl level gym course. The right price ON HIS FORM is a 2nd round draft pick...hell, luke ball went in the 2nd round to the magpies. surely your not suggesting that caddy's value is higher than that?

  45. Great thread, Ben Hur. Sometime in 1963 I was given Ron Barassi boots and a Melbourne jumper by my parents. My father, being English was a soccer supporter so the telly wasn't usually on footy replay, but for some bizarre reason I can still remember footage of Ron Barassi allegedly knocking out Roger Dean on the eve of the '63 finals resulting in a four match suspension. 12 months on, I have a memory of a Melbourne belting Collingwood in the '64 second semi. a year in the uk in 1965, wearing my Melbourne jumper (pictured) and return to australia, and Melbourne v St. Kilda round one, 1966. How did the demons go last year? I asked someone. they came 7th. wow, that was a surprise. but i thought we would soon be back in town and would do well against the saints. unfortunately we have had over forty years of beltings like that round one game but i am still a paid up member and drive in for several games a year. second half of this year though i couldn't handle the familiarity of walking out of the G as losers, the drive back to the bush - as losers - and all the radio and press coverage of how pathetic we have become. just finished the Jimmy book last night which has given me confidence that he hasbequeathed to the club a solid administration and an intangible 'we are Melbourne at this stage' spirit which may yet reap rewards.

  46. Perhaps unfortunately, but yes it is. My support is absolutely unconditional. Hopeless coaches, hopeless players, hopeless administrators are just people transiting through the joint. My affection continues regardless. Doesn't mean the hopelessness of it all doesn't annoy the hell out of me though.
