  2. I just can't believe we didn't take Fev. Why do we have a list full of choir boys?? When will this club pull it's head out of the sand and start recruiting some tough men that can play footy, regardless of whether they're likely to miss 80% of possible matches due to suspension, rehab and being in custody??

  4. Without Clark we will struggle to win another game in 2012. We don't kick enough goals.

  5. Oh man, oh man. I thought the sentence "perhaps offer Yarrawonga pick 4 for him" would have made it clear that I was taking the urine! It really has been a tough year for the MFC and consequently the Demonland faithful...

  6. After the procession of media hell we endured last season and in the first half of this one, it's good to see this mob under the pump. I don't like them and I don't like their arrogant supporters. You know the types. "Can you smell what the Blues are cooking?" Yep ... turd soup! They put a whole of eggs in the Judd basket but now that he's past his peak they've blown their chance and I reckon they know it. "They know we're coming ..... we've gone".

  8. When you miss Carrazzo and Murphy, two prime movers, and have a skipper at 75%, and other key injuries (Waite, Laidler, Scotland) that give no continuity to a side, you're going to be vulnerable. He has delivered and reached targets up until this year. If they lose this week and sack him through weight of pressure.....he will need a new start. Any club out there looking for a midfield coach ?

  11. Well, you measure JV on a draftpickometer, and if he comes out as a pick <5.5, you take him with pick 3. If he weighs in as a pick 6 or higher, we have to let him go to the start-ups if they bid. I mean, it's all a bit absurd, isn't it? Who is to say there is a definitive top 3, 5 & 10, and there is a clear ranking between the players? This system only exists in the minds of supporters, and I think the reality would surprise quite a few.

  12. "We need some forwards. Our two leading goal scorers from last year, and our leading goal scorer from this are not playing. It's no wonder we can't kick a winning score." Worked it out. What do I win?

  14. What do you think is the point of Robbo as an interviewer? He's not meant to be the hard-hitting media type who does what he can to get as much material out of the subject as possible. The idea is he's meant to be one of "the boys" who gives an insight into the light-hearted atmosphere around the club. He talks about himself as a bit of a joke to bring out the light-hearted banter oucher pointed out between Neeld and himself. If you are watching Robbo's interviews for anything other than a laugh and insight into the personalities around the club you are seriously mislead in terms of his role. I for one am a big fan of what Robbo does on DeeTV. Always worth a laugh and gets away from the stress of us worrying purely about the on-field performance. Keep it up Robbo!

  19. Seriously? Robbo is great to listen and watch on DeeTV stuff. The interviews he does with Neeld in the Coaches Room show a side of Neeld that is refreshing and relaxed and I actually like seeing that side of the coach. Neeld has a very dry sense of humour and the banter between the two is good to watch. The Robbo show is light hearted and amusing.... it's not supposed to be anything but this. Matt Burgan whilst I appreciate all the media work that he does, still comes across as stiff and almost nervous in front of the camera... Just see Robbo's stuff for what it is... sheesh

  25. I am trying hard to not be optimistic about our chances, but we do have a good chance against Richmond. Big concern for me is still about where our goals and kicking a winning score without Clark.

  26. I Maric, Cotchin, Foley and Tuck (plsu rotations with their quick runners) still wins a lot of clearances. Frawley usually beats Reiwoldt but I still think they have us covered this week DW.

  27. If we can't keep players just because then we are screwed as a club. We should take the best available and worry about the 'go home' or any other factor come contract time.

  30. Reading through Paul Satterly's Casey player reviews from the weekend (http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/140277/default.aspx), it doesn't look like we'll be seeing Gysberts, Morton or Petterd in the ones anytime soon. Gysberts 'report' is particularly disappointing. On the plus side, Couch and Fitzpatrick stood up in a losing side.

  31. It's a hypothetical. Why the angst? It's worth looking at every option, to get he best for the club out of this draft. Ok, this suggestion is maybe a little crazy, but why not ask the question anyway? It's free to ask isn't it?

  32. Anyone see Fev in action tonight? Amazing! I think we should push hard for him this trade period. Perhaps offer Yarrawonga pick 4 for him and a $700,00 per year contract to entice him back into the game? Could go very well down there next season in a support role with Clark. Thoughts?

  33. I'm just giving an example of another junior footy watchers view. You should take it with a grain of salt. Emma is a fine journalist and avid draft watcher, but I wouldn't be basing your views on her talent rankings. In 2007 she ranked Tom McNamara at 23 (delisted), she had Callan Ward at 21 (gun), Tony Notte at 19 (delisted), Cale Morton at 3 and Jarrad Grant at 5. In 2008 she had Watts at 1, Yarran at 2, and both are looking way off. She also had Vickery at 5 and Tom Swift at 7. Between 10 and 14 she had Sidebottom, Hurley, Ziebell, and Hill. I suspect they'd all be ranked higher now. She had Casey Sibasado in her top 25. Btw, they weren't her phantom draft predictions, they were her ratings based on talent. My point being ? Don't get too rapt up in what order she has the top 10, or whether she rates Viney 5-10, as in all likelihood it won't have any relevance to reality 5 years down the track. Somehow though I don't think it will stop you.

  35. I'm not accusing any other posters of this, but it's been said so many times in so many threads, that now when I see the "let's just trade our picks then take Viney with a late one" suggestion, I immediately think "troll". Rightly or wrongly. But yes, the F/S bidding is held PRIOR to trade week, so picks CANNOT be traded away before the bidding. You bid for Viney with what you start with. AND to my understanding (I don't have a source) the compensation picks are not included in F/S bidding, so no matter what, we cannot be made to use pick 12 on Viney.

  37. Not one ounce of disagreement here Old Dee. The one I'm disappointed about is Tapscott, thought he was our version of Chapman, but that said, the geelong faithful were quite impatient with Chappy in his early years.

  38. I think theres a general tendency amongst forums to talk about all this is generally simplistic and idealist terms.. We all seem to construct scenarios that in reality are far from script that the actual clubs will work to. Its a bit like real estate speak. So may would have you beleive there are bay views, but that holds true only if youre standing on the roof leaning against the tree hanging on for dear life. Yes the view is there....but. And so we have the constructs of drafts, whereby if this team or that somehow havent a clue about a players actual worth they may overlook etc etc. The teams arent stupid. They have their lists of who is who and their strengths, weaknesses etc. They also have their WANT list. One teams absolutes needs may be a little different from the next. They migh talso have slightly diffferent non negotiables etc. I have no doubt we are seeing the outward manifestations of some smoke and mirrors in an attempt to faze other suitors but their scoutrs will be informing the respective Footy Depts as to what is what and who is who. GC and GWS will ONLY be interested in Viney if he suits them. He may not. They I would suspect have bigger issues and more key positions to fill before they look to another mid. They both have a few. Melbourne needs to be prepared to cough up pick 3 if it needs to and suck it up. But we might get lucky. The drafts arent super slanted to the newby clubs anymore and they may this year be far more circumspect about using the top picks. In the end...Viney is a type of player we desperately need. If if was some other bloke we were after wed all be frothing and foaming and insisting that we get him with 3. Just because we think hes in the bag we want to get all clever and try tooutfox all the other clubs. Do we do that and risk the bird in hand for two in the draft ?

  40. F/S bidding happens "before" the draft or trade period. You "can't" use any compo picks on a F/S pick. It is either pick 3, second round pick or we don't take him.

  41. I'm sorry, but I find the f/s ruling very confusing. Just like a few of you I'd imagine And I'm sure it's been asked. But couldn't figure out the answer from other peoples responses; but If we trade away pick three to another club. Are we still entitled to pick viney with our next 'non-compensation pick' ie our second round pick. Or is that somehow breaking the draft rules? Because how sweet would it be if we used pick 3 for trade. AND use our 4th pick on a draftee. Our pick 13. . AND our second draft pick (20 odd) on viney. Is it possible?

  43. I know there's nothing we can change from past years , but how on earth did the club not know how far behind other clubs we were in terms of fitness ? I don't recall hearing anything about these levels until Misson , Neeld and Craig came on board . Was our footy dept that far behind ? Did our club , or people within the footy dept not notice how other clubs were going about their pre-seasons ? It's fairly transparent I would have thought . You'd reckon that all people within a footy dept should at least know 'The lay of the land' . It's just astonishing if they didn't .

  44. Forget Juice (wishing him all the best in his recovery)... BRING BACK THE FEV! Plonk him at FF, pay him $40,000 a year plus $1000 per goal, with $10,000 deduction per [censored]- related incident, and we're in business.

  45. I say we try every dirty trick in the book, to buy gws/gc off, and get him second round. Telling him to sit out another year would be a slap in the face, and I suspect he would punch MFC square on the jaw if it was suggested to him. I'm one of those who get excited at draft time. (cos our crapness gives us good picks) Picks 3/4, 12, Viney and a couple of randoms, would almost be worth taking the day off for............... God I wish we were good again.

  46. I do see some of the posters points of view that holding viney off wouldnt work. I think it might but i dont disagree entirely with some of the other opinions. What i strongly disagree with is this idea of just taking whats due to us. its so soft and lacks fighting spirit and desire to do whatever it takes to be the very best.

  47. So when next year comes and we are still rubbish, and we have the chance to either use a high pick on JV or another kid, we push him back another 12 months?

  48. The idea works in theory, but then again so does communism..... Just can't see Jack or his agent agreeing to it as it's delaying the start of his career, unless there was some brown paper bags at play! Certainly not the worst idea I've heard, a bit harsh I would have thought.
