Too bad I read Demonland earlier tonight, panicked, slashed my wrists, died, and missed the Mons come-back win.7 points

For everything posted in this thread... we won this game. We won it. We never gave up and, with a game in these conditions already played, we got the win. THAT is a good sign. Skills were poor but the conditions were awful. Decision making does need work and our talls will have much more of an impact in better conditions. Lots of positive but special mention to Matty Bate. Worked his backside off in both games and looks like he can have a future in the midfield. Kudos to him for making such a hard effort to change his fortunes around.4 points

I'd love our players to be off their nut on everything going if it meant a flag.4 points

Could have meant Dawes from last year? Eddie is a bully and make such threats all the time. Last week it was GWS, the week before it was North, this week it's us. If your going to the AFL to tell them we have too much money, don't forget to mention your able to pick up any of our sponsors you like. Perhaps they could take some money off us and also give you a less favourable draw so other teams have the same opportunities to attract those sponsors. Please dont pass yourself off as charitable with the QB fixture. You can have it as a home fixture but, perhaps we could take a few of your Friday night games and swap them for our Sunday's? The real charity is the favourable fixture the pies get every year which provide the opportunity to grow. We would take that over cash any day of the week. So stop passing yourself off as the givers when you are the receivers!4 points

I thought this was a bit cringeworthy from McLardy. While I agree with the ambition, to say we want to be one of the "big 5" along with Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond... it's a little clunky to give those 4 and ignore the on-field and off-field success of Geelong and Hawthorn.3 points

Ok, season is about to start and i think that Mark shouldnt be exempt from discussion. to start - from a Collingwood recruiting fanatic one "Knightmare" who i actually respect the opinion of.... Highlighted the main points, Truly think he is a good appointment at this stage, one word for him would be DRIVEN, wants the best, is surrounding himself with the best and expects nothing but the best from himself, his staff and more so the players. Here's hoping that he can deliver for the MFC2 points

Ha! This is going to be a funny year on Demonland. Get used to watching games like that. Everyone was so keen to get a defensive coach, but as soon as they see us playing defensively they are gobsmacked. We will hug the boundary, focus on stoppages and strangle the opposition. Honest players will play before silky players and we will have low possession numbers and low mark numbers because of our style. Get used to it.2 points

some of you people here seriously need to neck up! first of all the conditions were atrocious! did not suit our talls and skills were yes not that flash. 2nd its going to take us a couple of games to get our game plan up to scratch! dont expect for them to waltz onto the field and bang get it right first up! i actually found more positives then negatives tonight. and 3rd wtf is with comments like '' we are in for another long sufferiing year, or bring back bailey!! FFS its the first game of the year and a chance to blow out the cobwebs and gets some games and miles into most of the players! Gosh there are seriously some rosey eyed people on this forum...2 points

A 20-minute "half" in a monsoon in a glorified practice match in February? Says nothing at all apart from your alarmist negativity.2 points

I understand your sentiment, especially an accountant's view, but do you ever get sick of this club kowtowing to all and sundry ? Do you ever get sick of following a club that's been 'nice' for 40 years ? A club that never steps on toes ? I'm sick of it. I'd rather have a real crack than wither on the vine.2 points

"Knock off their sponsors" because "that's how I roll" ? Reads to me like Easy E-Mac is planning a drive-by on one of our sponsors. Pets Paradise best be on the lookout for a slow rollin' Lexus leaning heavily to one side (not because of hydrollics, but because a fat bastard is driving it). No doubt Alan Didak will be riding shotgun. Bring it [censored].2 points

I dont see what all the wrist slitting is about. It is usual when implementing a new style to take it to the extreme. We played half a side against the Suns and lost because our defence got sucked up the ground and left men behind on three occasions. The Brisbane game we would have lost last year by 4-5 goals but defended well and ground out a win. Have not seen the numbers but would expect we won the contested possession count in both games which is probably two more times than we did last year. Those long kicks forward will look alot better when the game is not in a monsoon and when you dont get penalised for putting them out. Bate was exceptional winning the ball but coughed it up too often. Magner is clearly the round 1 rookie. Nicholson did not put in a great showing and Couch looks extremely slow. Some good signs from Mitch Clark on occasion and Davey's involvement at the fall of the ball showed some promising signs. We lacked a bit of polish in the midfield but that will be helped with the addition of Trengove. No major injuries. Some good signs from Magner, Clark and Tynan. A victory against the odds. I dont understand the fuss.1 point

No. A conflicted, loudmouth meddler who sticks his nose in everyone's business, makes idle threats and puts undue pressure on his first-year coaches.1 point

And we will be so much better at it without the out of bounds rule that applies to this competition.1 point

I thought that was a pretty good summary of a "half" of football, where we were scoreless and had one mark and the other side had 32 marks according to the Fox Footy boys. Where is my "alarmist negativity" in that ? I don't recall saying we were finished, or tear up the membership tickets. I was just stating the reason IMO why we were pathetic and that was that our disposal was terrible.1 point

Fantastic signs, brilliant tough grinding hit out in the RAIN. Should add to our fitness. Bate & Magner just what we need. Loved Nicho's game. Hate the format and some of the rules.1 point

Aren't we the first team to back up with a win? Pretty good conditioning if you ask me. The thing that frightens me is how panicked and unsettled we looked for most of those two games. Clearly that has a lot to do with trying to implement a new game plan, plus having nowhere near our regular side. Jamar played a half, Garland was taken off with a back injury (doesn't sound too serious thankfully), Sylvia only played one game, as did Green, as did Grimes, and Clark was taken off in the last half. More importantly, in the season proper, great tactical kicks that bring the ball inside our forward 50, are not going to be deemed a free kick to the opposition for going out of bounds. This is a completely different set of rules. What was good is the tackling and pressure on the opposition, right up until the last second. To come up against a fresh team and be completely outplayed, only to scrap out a win, was very good. Grimes was sensational when the game was there to be won, and that is why he is captain. A year out of the game, and his defensive punch then run on to help us get the ball forward to Sellar, was absolutely brilliant. So good to see him out there again. Howe and Bail who barely played were also very good, and will be a big part of season 2012 and beyond. All in all, heaps for us to work on, but also some positives.1 point

I can remember, similar 'look on the bright side' posts after we go pumped in all of our praccy matches last year. I agree, wait til the real thing gets going before we start calling for lynchings, but that was ordinary and boring football we just played.1 point

Yeah, season's definitely over after a scratch match a month before the competition starts.1 point

No way. I want a flag. But not at any cost. I don't think the flag should be taken away from West Coast. If anyone can prove that the drugs they were on were performance enhancing then I might take a different view.1 point

It might take a while for Mark to implement his game plan . Having a more defensive mindset , the forward press , more accountability , more long kicks , harder at the ball , more grunt etc etc are all things that he may demand from our playing group . We're coming from a fair way back in a lot of those aspects so it may take a little bit of time . Whilst I reckon we can play finals this year , we may not be playing the "Neeld" style until about 2/3rds of the way into the season . We may catch a glimpse of it tonight . Looks like it's going to be wet tonight so the big thing I'll be looking for is a decent attack on the ball . If we do that we'll probably win both games . Cheers1 point

I'm sure Green, Davey, Sylvia, & others are relieved any approaches from E'd anywhere Have Been just a joke.1 point

History suggests we thrive on robbing the Filth . Pendles would look good in red and blue too . We'll waltz in and take whatever we want from that sinking ship . I'd like to slap that fat Scottish [censored]' face . Packer stooge .1 point

Yeah , maybe 'dl' . We're not strong in the midfield though we have a couple of likely lads in Trengove and Viney that should be alright . And there are other up and comer's in that area . Our forward line in the last 4 years has been awful really . I know a lot of people believe Watts is going to be a gun forward but he's not there yet . Wouldn't it be great if Watts was the 3rd (floating) forward with 2 decent big blokes holding down the 2 key forward spots ? We'd be hard to beat with that set-up . CHF requires a lot of hard yakka . Constant battering , whacks in the back of the head , knees in the kidneys , Back injuries and issues . And with the odd exception a big body is needed .1 point

Or whether we would agree to trade our reigning B+F winner who was contracted? I'm not one to call into question the word of one of Brent family member's friend who happens to be a anonymous poster but I have my doubts.1 point
