Quality posting has nothing to do with that requirement. And if it were, you would be tailing off at the rear of the site on that measure.

I can name a number of players that have gone through MFC that have been young raw and truckloads of fighting spirit.

They just did not have the ability and skills to make it at the top level. Not that it would be important in your estimations.

I have been impressed with Wona, but I wouldny say he has set games alight like davey did in his first year.

He looks to have tidy disposal, speed, and he chases hard, and certainly looks to have a future at the club.

He is displaying the qualities you expect of an AFL footballer, which I guess is promising considering there are only a handfull of our players doing so atm

Rhino, surely you can admit he is a positive at this point in time. You don't even sound the slightest bit enthused by him. I presume the club is not employing you to give pep talks to the boys before they run down the race.

IMO the juries out from where I sit on Aussie.

I acknowledge his efforts and how far he has come in a short time but when the list is comprehensively performing poorly I cant clearly gauge what he is capable of. I just have not seen evidence of those skills that would necessarily carry him to become a good player in a capable AFL side. I just have not seen Aussie have a real impact on a game and have not got excited about him like others have

While his skills sets are different to Godfrey, I can recall the gushing during bad times about Godfrey was hard at it and how good he was. It was a case of a player who was a 3/10 looking good in a side playing like a 2/10. The problem was that Godfrey for his weakneses despite his hard efforts was always a 3/10 and did not get better.

BTW, I did submit a quote to the Club for the pep talk prior to the game but it is appears that they are too cash strapped to afford my expensive services. B)

MFC4Life, maybe that's been our problem, Rhino HAS been giving the players a pep talk before the game. It probably goes like this:

"You're a soft, talentless bunch, and 90% of you won't be at the club in 2 years, but I want Bails to keep his job, so go out there and win."

He might end up a player, but it's hard to get too enthused by anyone that wouldn't be getting a game in any other side in the league. He's a tiny flicker of light in a pretty dank cave.

I hold hopes for much of our youth, but it will take some years before we're a force to be reckoned with.

Once again Hannabal, you are full of positivity. Is ther anyone on our list that you actaully do rate?

I think chris connolly said on SEN during the week that his body strength and fitness levels are still a long way off where they should be for an AFL footballer. And you can see it too he is a bit pudgy around the face and through the hips. Once this guy is super fit and with a couple of solid pre-seasons behind him we might really see how good he can be.

An exciting prospect

He reminds me of Byron Pickett (in build) minus the ability to kill off an entire football team

He was good enough to slot 3 goals up at the Gabba. Thats enough to get me excited. What is he, 18 or 19? off the rookie list?

If you arent happy with what Aussie has shown so far, then what will you be happy with?

Seriously? What aspect of Bailey's coaching reminds you of Leigh Matthews?Brisbane have been a 2 kicks to 1 handball side--even higher ratio when they won their flags.

Our new ambition is to have equal numbers of kicks/handballs.That's what's frustrating the heck out of supporters and commentators alike.

I do agree however that Daniher's recruiting post 2003 was good and should give us a base. But who chose Meesen and what do they think now?

Just read your post. How can people misread text that is there to reread, I'm baffled. Must be reading with one eye closed.

However, I never said they were the same nor similar. What my post is trying to convey is that I love the way Leigh Matthews teams play the game.

Now point 2. I'm gratefull that we finally saw the light & finished up Danners rein. I am optimistic that Bailey & Connolly teamed up will instill some much needed steel into the Heads & Hearts & Bodies of our freindly little folk who've been taking the field masquerading as Demons.

Yes, there is a difference between me and you my dear dolt. When I was a young monkey spunk I recognised crap for being crap, and never made excuses. I followed the Dees in their worst period - the 70's through mid 80's, went every week with my older brother, and always craved the days we'd be better. But I didn't sugar coat crap. Not at 19 and not now at 43. And I'm not about to start.

You can wet your pants over any glimmer of hope, and I'll wet my pants over a flag. I've seen lots of Aussies and I'm far from sold. I saw Colin Graham show promise, and Les Bamblett, and Sean Charles. So what.

One can be young and dumb, or young and smart. I suspect you know where you and most of your cheersquad fit.

PS I hope he's an effing star.

It is a bitter pill we swallow holding our hands over the flame that is the Melbourne Football Club.

The candle flickers in its tatty glory for me. I wonder if when it spits and dies if I will be gutted or emancipated.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light..

I'm closer to your age than H's and Rhino's, but I agree with them.

He's shown some promise and has done some nice things, but so far I'm not convinced either. I won't write him off yet, haven't seen enough, but so far I'm reserving judgement.

Just cos you're old doesn't automatically mean you're a brilliant judge of talent

And it doesn't mean you're not either.

Anyway, why the [censored] do you spend so much time on the site of a club you don't support ?

An interesting comparison.

Austin Wonaemirri. 4 games 5 Goals 15 Tackles

Cyril Rioli. 6 Games. 8 goals. 28 Tackles

Considering the fanfare, the high draft pick, the team he is playing on and the opportunity that Cyril is getting in his F50, i think Aussie is faring pretty well comparable to Rioli.

If Rioli was playing for Melbourne this year, would every footy journalist be wetting themselves over him like they are at the moment?

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
