I was at a Christening unfortunately today.

SEN had Bruce as our best and only winner for the number he did on Stevens. Yet he's not recognised as I post.

Hmmm

no votes so far for Bruce? Apart from that kick, thought he was easily one of our best

Agree with you:

McLean 6

Green 5

McDonald 4

Bruce 3

Whelan 1

Sylvia beat Fisher created of half back then did OK in the last up forward. Mclean would have been best but considering the impact of Judd he had to be put down a liitle.

Why am I getting singled out? Plenty other people gave him 6.

Besides, if you think McLean got destroyed by Judd, you have obviously never seen Judd on fire. Faster, more experienced players have suffered much worse at the hands of Chris Judd. His 3 goals were very influential, as was some of his forward delivery, but he certainly didn't rip us apart like I have seen him rip us apart before.

McLean had a huge job to do. To his credit he didn't go too defensive, and still got plenty of his own ball, while at the same time limiting Judd to the best of his ability. McLean more than held his own in the clearances, but obviously struggled for pace in the one on one situations.

Very few, if any, can stop Judd, and not many find themselves amongst the top possession winners while playing against him.

I would love to give green 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 votes but it is against the rules. My votes are:

6 - Green (you guessed it) - he tries his guts out and i hope they leave him on the HF line

5 - Rivers - has the smarts

4 - Austin - his chasing was great today and is one of the best disposals in the team

3 - McDOnald - primarily for the chase down

2- Bruce - easily accounted for Stevens

1 - Bartram - would have like to see him on Judd

Mclean was well beaten by Judd - cannot give him votes. For those who thought Judd did not rip us apart, in the words of "The Castle", tell them they're dreaming

Judd having a good game and his opponent having a good game are not mutually exclusive. McLean went head to head with Judd, and came out second best (because Judd is a better player), but that doesn't mean his game was bad. His role was more than just "stop Judd" and I think he did a damn good job.

If the role was just "stop Judd" it would have been Bartram or McDonald playing on him, not our best ball winner.

Off the ball, Judd killed him and he was probably only running at about 70-80%.

McLean wasn't bad, but Judd is in a league of his own.

if he got 'destroyed' why did you give him 3 votes?

judd is in his own league yes. but that isnt a reason why not to give mclean votes. the issue here is 'who were our best players' not 'how good was judd?'

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
