Stats so far this year

Thought this might be of interest. From the mfc web site, it shows stats for the 1st 4 games. Bear in mind that number of games played is not listed, and only the "first" 25 players are listed.

The stats I have focussed on are T tackles, CP contested possessions, Clg clangers, CM contested marks, CL centre clearances, 1% 1 percenters, GA goal assists

Might or might not add teeth to hard vs soft etc.

Interestingly, Neita easily has most contested marks.

Clangers look high, but don't know how they compare with other teams.

Brock McLean is in the top 10 in the league for contested possessions... he has clearly broken many team rules there :P

Amazing how many people have got stuck into McLean and Bell.

McLean is first in contested possessions, second in tackles and second in clearances (despite getting a hard-tag each and every week).

Bell is second in 1%'s and equal fourth in tackles.

When you are going as badly as we are, it's the players who do the hard things and the team things that get you through from week to week.

Wheatley and Carroll plenty of 1%s

Also surprised at Bruce's lack of clangers considering he can't kick.

CONSIDERING THE BLOKES GETS CHAP WORTHLESS POSSIES ON THE BOUNDRY LINE WITH NO PRESSURE AND KICKS IT 30 METRES WE COULD HIT THE TARGET............

the other bloke said it right when he stated "Bruce has never laid a hip and shoulder in 8 years of footy" Hes a Panzy!!!

Must say that young Cale's numbers are very impressive for his first season!

5th in Contested posessions!!!

Fantastic start to what will hopefully be a fantastic career in the Red 'n Blue!

gee Bartram 12 clangers out of only 33 touches. That aint a great percentage!

Yep, Bartram has really struggled to date. He's still just a kid though, and he's just had a year out of the game, and has heaps of time to get his disposal up to scratch.

What people often forget is that our core midfield group are a bunch of kids. I doubt there's another side in the league whose #1 and #2 midfielders are 21 and 19.

I actually think that while stats generally don't give a good reflection, that list is a pretty good indication of who our best players have been. With the exception of Robbo, the top 10 in that list would all be in my top 10 players so far.

Hmm.... so let's see.

Cameron Bruce, despite not playing every game, is at the higher end for

- Posessions, tackles, clearances and 1%ers.

And at the low end for

-clanger kicks.

Brad Green third in tackles, behind only Junior and Mclean, for what it's worth.

I'm thinking maybe some people need to review their vendetta list.

And also, 'how about that Cale Morton, ay!'

I too can't understand some veiws regarding Bruce - he has been definetely one of our better players thus far.

I am concerned about Bartrams confidence level - too much fumbling and poor disposal. As a youngster with plenty of senior exposure in the past I would consider some time with Sandy to regain confidence. Give some more game time too other youngsters without the senior games under their belt to see how they go. The contribution to the team may be similar (Bartram is stuggling), but the longer term benefits might be better for the club.

We have had such an awful season that 'above average' isn't saying a whole lot.

With that said, you could find issues with every player and you could praise an aspect too...

I must say though; McLean gets over 40% of his possessions in contested situations...very encouraging. And Jones is 35%.

To put it in context - Macca is currently at 31%, Bruce 27%, Green 18%.

With those figures it isn't difficult to see why I am not despondent about the future (of our midfield at least).

What concerns me the most is the ratio between kicks and handballs.

Eg. Brock McLean has the most kicks for the side with 48 and has a total of 97 disposals. That means 49 handballs. I think the way forward for this team is to average around a 70/30 ratio between kicks and handballs.

Currently, the team is at 53/47 ratio.

Simon Buckley needs to kick more ... he has 10 kicks and 23 handballs.

Can't find it now, but someone wrote a piece about the handball:kick ratio. Apparently, Geelong are approaching 1:1, and Melbourne (from about 1:1.8 in 2006) got down to around 1:1.2 in 2007. The thinking is: the best (Gee, Haw, Dogs ) teams are at about 1:1.1 to 1:1.2. So that's the go.

Interestingly, NM had a ratio closer to 1:2 - they made the finals last year, and got absolutely flogged IN the finals. I think their ratio is still closer to 1:2.

The only stat that matters is the final score compared to the opposing team

Stats help , sure but only after the game has concluded in which we face different opposition

I believe Neale Daniher was BIG on stats which is fine and dandy but in the end useless on game day

Kick 4 goals a quarter and you usually win the game is enough stats for me

Bear in mind, the clangers stat also includes Frees Kicks Against, of which Bartram has 7 (equal 1st at the club).

Having said that, i do think his disposal has really let him down since his return from injury.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
