Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I can't believe they tried this kid for a second go after a dismal first round performance. There is no hope in garland at all. Since he arrived at the club he has done nothing. Has too many flaws... He has no size, has poor decision making, and is not accountable in defense.

Saw him play the practice match against the roos at casey and noticed many many wrongs. A potential delist I thought at the time. Only to my suprise I see him listed as a starting player round 1. I don't see any future in garland. If he's stays on against the cats i will be furious!

Does anyone know what's on this guys mind when playing??

everyone looks bad when you lose by the best part of 200 points in 2 weeks, especially if you're playing your 4th game

lay off him a bit til you win a game, if he still looks like a [censored] then you can hang [censored] on him

he looks out of his depth at senior level.

Many here argued that players like Ward, Godders, Ferg, Brown and Bizzell had to be delisted. I agreed and still do.

It's a pity those that argued this didn't realise that it meant we effectively delisted our depth and that players who are not ready for AFL footy would play if we had even a few injuries.

Garland may not be up to it YET. I think he will turn into a fine player but I maybe wrong.

It's a big ask for him to be doing his apprenticeship in the seniors in a non competitive team and even worse that supporters don't support.

Twice in the 2nd quarter yesterday on the GSS wing, Junior kicked the ball to Garland and he just waited for the ball to come to him. This happened right in front of where i was sitting. James told him to present and to meet the ball. A WB player came from behind and knocked it away. Then seconds later, junior kicked it again to Garland (virtually in the same spot) and it happened again.

The members in our area were very frustrated and let him know about it. (Junior was furious) Garland just waved his hand and jogged away. Both times it was a pathetic attempt. If he does not want to play AFL footy with the right mind in place, send him back to the Sandy reserves to force him to work his way back into the team. By then he would atleast be a little more aggressive.

I know everyone else was pretty pathetic yesterday, but those 2 identical incidents within the space of 20 seconds are unforgivable.

Whilst I agree that Garland's performances this year have been mediocre, he like many others are not playing on instinct, but seem to have too many thoughts going through their head.

It worries me when after a game, players come out and say that we didn't follow the coach's instructions. It suggests that the "team rules" are too complex.

If Garland was allowed to play instinctively in his rightful position up forward, I think he has got a future at AFL level.

I dont think they are that complex.. How complex can football get really. ?? lol. What it requires is total committment to a method and belief in yourself and other your team mates to also do what is needed. if this isnt carried off then it can look bad. It looks bad !!

I think the problem Bub is that the players look like they must do one thing when in a certain situation. For example, they must handball and run the ball out of defence, even if it is not the best option. As a result, if there isn't anyone to handball to they panic, as if they don't know what to do.

Which is crap.

Because they are all footballers and all got drafted becuase they know how to play football. Like you said, it's not that complex.

Personally I was a bit worried when I saw the players taking written tests about the gameplan. Time will tell.

I think it is a bit early to make a call on Garland and the other kids. JC would not have got a touch yesterday. Poor team form is poor team form and the kids get killed. Clearly the kids need more time to develop.

Bring back Moloney and Holland - maybe Wheels and Rivers and Bate.

Good post Fan.

I just cant be believe the vitriol towards this player under the circumstances. Amazing.

No. Its says much about the players. And many of them will go at year end.

DB's press conference was that they need to practice it and they do.

Give this kid a go lets face it most the team is playing at his standard and those with 50 plus games we should be more down on .

I agree, give him a go, he is 19 and 191 cm tall, looks to have some pace. Not many key position kids are going that well at 19. and usually they are the superstars like Reiwoldt.

If our supporters on this forum were coaches we would never get a KPP as we have zero patience and they take longer to develop.

Both Garland and Frawley need all the opportunities and who knows one may become a very good shut down defender.

I say give them a go. No use in sacking them after a bad performance, as they probably learn twice as fast than at Sandy.

Have a go at the senior players like Green who have had 8 years now and just disappear completely at times.

I think I was a little coldhearted last night. It was 1am and just came home from a 21st copping it from my mates about my side and unthinkably lashed out my anger. Though I’ve always had my concerns about Garland. But as a group it’s disappointing to see the lack of spirit as it affects our confidence, game play, and the drive to play as a team. Once we get things rolling the younger kids may show some promise but I don’t see it coming anytime soon.

Frawley needs to come in for some more game time, would like to see Mcnamara have a go too actually.

He's 19, he's played 4 games of AFL.. give him a chance...

The two mistakes on the wing were nto good, but where was the voice from team mates? No where until the ball had gone away when 4 or 5 team mates got stuck into him... He was standing flat footed whilst the lollipop was spooned his way.

He is like Buckley they do some very ave things but we have to stick with them as there is not much else to come in...

Hopefully Maric comes in this week

Green is becoming a cameleon again, never gets within touching distance of opponents. I lose sight of him as he seems to blend in with the grass, then zappo, he's gone.

Kids and faults go hand in hand. Not many can come in and set the AFL on fire. He is a boy in a mans game at the moment, and my general feeling is that he should go back to sandy and get a better understanding of the game at a senior level.

That said, he still has potential, not as much as we would have liked, but he still young enough to give another year to. By the end of next season we will know whether Garland is a keeper, or a complete and utter waste of time.

Give him a go, when he has racked up 20+ games we could see some really big upside to this kid (i hope)

garland has played 7 games ffs! give the ppor kid a go! i like garland and apperently he is the quickest player over 100m so thats really handy for a defender! if he can put on a heap of muscle then by god he will be just as good as goldsack from collingwood

Not many players can learn to play in the seniors & still maintain their self belief. I believe Garland is one with a very strong mental resolve who seems that he can. He hasn't played a lot of footy & is learning late, but gee, he's a good learner. If he's just learning & is still able to hold his spot just imagine how he will be once he's played 80 - 90 games, oh yeah, that must be why they're fast tracking him...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
