Definitely a positive.. many ..especially outsiders..or ..the "all knowing" media will no doubt find something untoward about all this but its a definite step in cementing our future. Not only from a Football training aspect but getting a toe hold in a new and growing area.

Well done MFC for looking outside the sqaure ( and finding an oval !! ^_^ )

And the article has highlighted why we cant move the ball through the centre of the ground...because we can't practice that way at the Junction oval..there's a cricket roller in the way

It also explains the quality of our disposals, which are usually "in the corridor of uncertainty".

I've got to wonder how the players feel about driving all that extra distance on a daily basis

I'm sure they'll take that over having to remember where training is every day, especially in the pre-season.

What about a bus...we'd be just like the Partridge family...we could have James "captain slow" May from Top Gear as our driver so that we never need worry about speeding fines.

While it sounds like a good development for the club

I've got to wonder how the players feel about driving all that extra distance on a daily basis

Players have so much time available during the day. I am sure the drive will be no issue

Having a permanent base would be a far bigger issue than the travel. Given most players seem to live in the inner s/e suburbs it is straight down the south eastern freeway and probably wouldn''t take much longer than Judds drives through town to Princes Park.

Didn't say I had sympathy for them. Its about time we've found a place where we can train all summer round. But you'd be naive to think that an extra hour to hour and a half of driving per day might not be so popular with the players

Do we know if the facilities are any better/worse than they are at the Junction?

Well for starters i do believe there's no roller stuck in the middle !! ;)

How much do any folks want to molly coddle these players ?? ffs they are being paid big big bickies ...if its their job they can bloody well get there !! if thats teh worst thing in theor lives..a few minutes travel... my god then how soft have we become.

maybe that was the problem on Sunday...no one moved the ball close enough to them !!

This is absolutely FANTASTIC news! :)

I was one of the main people that supported this idea and I am really looking forward to the Demons gaining a foothold in this "growth corridor" of Melbourne!

The opportunities are enormous with the amount of young families in the area. And when children are in their primary school age it is when they are most likely to choose their football team (unless their parents influence them!). Now all the Demons need to do is start to WIN games!

Point taken BBub and Diesel. Its probably not too bad a drive once you get on the freeway

Is the assumption that the Saints will re-allign themselves with Frankston?

and if so, we will ditch Sandringham and allign ourselves with the Scorpions?

Seems strange that for ages we have had no developments in our quest for our own training facilities, and now we have two on the pipeline

I must fess up to the notion that for me its alot handier..more than Junction oval..or trinity :)

I think this is quite the D-Day really. Much is made of Heartland... I ask..where is ours ?? Historically its been hard to pin down to a locale, not in the manner you could with Richmond..or Collingwood ..or others whereby allegiances were born to you dependig on which street to grew up in. It was once THAT parochial . And where was Melbourne's ?

Really we were always the odd one out. We were a creation of another club. This in itself was more 'encompassing' than the normal suburban ilk. Out teritory was really in many ways the MCG. Our heartland was that ground and all that came to watch, to admire to bow before the gods of sport. it wasnt liek you could mark the map with lines along Flinders, Batman and Punt roads and describe that ...as Melbourne...no..Melbourne was the MCG. A different beast.

Since our excumunication 30-40 years ago we have been a body , without a heart. What pumped red and blue was a phantom, this being the memory of what we were. Should it be anything other than a logical coincidence that success has eluded us ever since we were told the MCG no longer was our own preserve ?? bears thinking doesn't it .

Our nomadic existence is to come to an end soon. We will have two homes in a sense. One where we started and one where we are going. Can this work ? I think so. More to the point, it HAS to work!! There may be no more chances after this. Look skyward and see the vultures.

Cranbourne is one of a number of areas on the verge of huge growth. Melbourne ( the city, not the team ) is deemed to be home over the next 15-20 years to 1,000,000 new residents. Approx half that to make their new roots in the South East . Many of these may not have any allegiance to a team , let alone AFL. Some will, far more wont.

A new generation is moving in. They will have a heartland. They will have roots and memories as they grow. What fool would ignore them where the choice to embrace exists. I note a predominance of red and blue in Casey's strip, surely this is divine guidance. How ironic that heavens open to aid demons !!

We all like to identify with things. Invariably our lives are dotted with marks, logos or colours that say who we are. We often choose those identifying embellishments according to what message we wish to display. Some are denoting location, some exclusivity and some might more readily fall into the cast of hope or desire. We need to spread that desire and have new followers join us for they will be the 'us' of the future, if we are to have one.

Many will make song of the notion we are abandoning our home. The reality is it abandoned us many years ago. Spiriutally our home is always going to be the hallowed turf of the G. But physically we need to broaden our base and take into our fold all those that would have us. This will augment a win-win relationship over time. And that time starts now.

uh oh less time on the play station or in the hair salon or shopping for pastel t-shirts on Chapel st....

That is a good start for the rebuiling off field, now lets see how they start to get the players out into the community to get those young 'uns onboard with us!

School visists, shopping mall sing alongs....

Hell. doesn't sound like they get up to much and have far too much spare time.

Maybe we fill their time up and can attract the younger audience by coming up with a Dee TV Productions show about AFL footballers.

Perhaps a hybrid of "it takes two" and "big brother"....we can call it "Australian Idle". Yes it would be crap but then again that seems to be what sells these days!

Very positive news. Sounds like a done deal.

We'll make you welcome in Casey, so long as you're not in just for the short haul and then disappear back to Swan Street when the Rectangular Stadium is completed.

You'd have to wonder what the benefit of being based at the Rectangular Stadium (even during the footy season) would be. Apart from convenience for the players (which would disipate over time when they make future residential locational decisions based on their training base), there are more advantages in being permanently located in the growth area MFC will be trying to cultivate.

If they have not signed on with the Olympic Park area, so some seem to think, maybe this is why, then again one never knows until it all unfolds.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
