  1. Just throwing it out there for consideration for a role at MFC. Played 269 matches - 5 time premiership player Coached 223 matches for 54% success, including finals for Geelong (95, 96, 97) and Adelaide (01, 02 03). A Hawthorn hardman. Now a Premisership coach at Port Melbourne (2012).
  2. They will get the due penalty. It might take time to roll through - WADA/ASADA don't move quickly, but they move methodically and inexorably. No-one will stop the inevitable - lawyers (who'll make a lot of money on the way), or the AFL (who won't want to be seen by sports administrators to be recalcitrant). Australia and the AFL are absolute minnows in the WADA wide world of sport - no-one outside Australia knows about or is interested in AFL. But we are subject to the world-wide rules and sanctions.
  3. The bit I don't get about MFC's decision to withdraw so many players from Casey and send them off for "early operations" is that surely it is good for a players' development to play in finals and to play in winning finals. With a bit of commitment from MFC, Casey could have a viable finals series. Surely players playing in finals and getting to sing a song at the end must be good for them. I would have thought that most players want to play footy and want to play in finals....not get wrapped up in cotton wool after an inglorious MFC season to prepare for another season where they probably won't play finals either. Surely getting the opportunity to play in any finals must be a highpoint for players after another dismal MFC season.
  4. Very disappointing result (for me). It is the only result in the past 19 matches of AFL footy (3/3 on the Sunday in Round 19, 8/8 in Round 20, 7/8 in Round 21) that I have missed. Zooming up the Leaderboard in the work footy tipping comp, but still 2 off top spot. Might be a bit hard to make up next week!
  5. And that is one of the reasons why Casey was top of the VFL ladder (before its dismal game last week against Willy).
  6. Casey Fields is a pre-season training base, and for one session/week during the season. The gym is to be fitted out with the equipment from the Junction Oval. The extension recently built to the Scorps facility at Casey Fields cost $2.1 million. There were some efficiencies extending an existing building, using an existing carpark etc. A full admin/training base (such as St Kilda is building at Seaford Swamp) costs $10-12 million.
  7. There is a bus "TrainLink" which meets every train at the Cranbourne Station and travels to Cranbourne East. The bus drops you at the new aquatic complex, and there is then an easy 700 meter walk to Casey Fields.
  8. Saturday 13th March @ 2:00pm Casey Fields MFC v (a top 2 team from 2009) A great outcome!
  9. Saturday 13th @ 2:00pm (same timeslot as previous years - 2pm on the day of the NAB GF)
  10. I've got the AFL Season Guide since it was first published in 1996.
  11. 12. The door has opened slightly it seems - common sense may yet carry the day and it may happen. Fingers crossed.
  13. Would have had 10,000 if MFC had played Essendon at Casey Fields. Crowds for past NAB Challenge matches have been: 2007 - Essendon v Hawthorn - 10,000 2008 - MFC v North Melbourne - 6,000 2009 - MFC v Western Bulldogs - 5,000 The added interest from Casey residents in MFC, the normal MFC supporters (are there any normal ones?) and a strong Essendon following would undoubtedly have provided a strong crowd. The word is there's no MFC game at Casey Fields in the 2010 pre-season - absolutely ridiculous!!
  14. It does - no "new" stadium for 25 years from the Etihad agreement. Interestingly, existing stadiums at that time included Princes Park and Victroia Park. Anything can be negotiated though. My argument is that Etihad would be relatively unconcerned by a small capacity stadium on the fringe of Melbourne, whereas it would be concerned about the proposed E-gate stadium near Docklands which was talked up by the City of Melbourne Lord Mayor last year. I'd like to see 2 to 4 MFC matches played at Casey Fields in a boutique style stadium (a bit like Manuka) - it would be relatively cheap to open the stadium compared to running such an event at the G.
  15. Any such development (and timeframe) will be dependent on the strategy of the AFL in relation to accommodating small crowd games. The World Cup soccer bid might also play a part in the negotiations/funding around the establishment of a boutique style stadium.
  16. A boutique stadium, capable of holding 20-25,000 people (not all seated) is on the cards at Casey Fields provided: * funding sources can be secured ($50-60 million) * the AFL is prepared to schedule a number of low-drawing matches there (eg MFC v Western Sydney, Gold Coast, Fre etc).
  17. Hopefully there'll be 2 stations - Cranbourne East as planned and then an event station at Casey Fields.
  18. The proposed extension of the line to Cranbourne East as shown on current Victorian Transport Plan is the end of the line. This document is the Cranbourne East Structure Plan exhibited by the Growth Areas Authority: http://www.gaa.vic.gov.au/Assets/Files/Cra...PP_20090619.pdf It does not show any extension of the line beyond Cranbourne East, but it does acknowledge (in Section 2.1 on page 5) that the City of Casey has identified a site for a future station at Casey Fields and suggests that this needs to be reviewed as part of planning for the possible future "Clyde Growth Area" (an area currently subject to dispute between the Government and the Opposition over the future Growth Area Infrastructure Charge, which is currently before Parliament). This document also shows (on Plan 5 on page 10) a "future urban structure plan". This shows an expanded Casey Fields with a road, Casey Fields Boulevard, running down the full extent of the western boundary. Plan 9 on page 28 also shows where the traffic lights will be located.
  19. It'll be finished in March 2010 (about 4 1/2 months away).
  20. And Chris Connolly is guest speaker at a Movember dinner in Casey at the Berwick Springs Hotel on the evening of Monday 16 November. Bookings are required. I'll see if I can find a web-based link to it. If anyone wants earlier details send me a PM.
  21. The photo with the red floor is the ground level. You are looking from the existing facility (ther former Scorpions gym area) into the extension which will be the new gymnasium area. The photos at the top level are the first floor office areas - essentially open plan at the rear, with individual offices/meeting rooms across the front facing the oval.
  22. More photos posted today on the City of Casey website - it's coming along nicely. http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/caseyfieldscon....asp?Item=16945
  23. This garbage about AFL matches having to be put on hold during the World Cup is absolute crap. The journalists are flipping out, just like the puppet master wants. It is spin being spun by someone - whether its the AFL putting up a draconian scenario so that we are conditioned to accept a lesser impact (ie no matches at the G for 8 weeks, but matches played at Skilled Stadium, Princes Park, Casey Fields and York Park etc) I'm not sure. But AFL can continue. The sort of major events not allowed to be held simultaneously with the World Cup are things like a GP car race - things which will impact on hotels, police deployment and air travel. Things which the rest of the world takes an interest in. The rest of the world doesn't take an interest in AFL. FIFA would laugh if someone suggested that Australians thought that FIFA wanted to stop their little domestic competition. There will obviously be an impact on stadiums, but the logisitics will be able to be worked out.
