I would of much rathered the scarf than a tie (ill prolly never wear) but probably good buisness sense on the admin side knowing alot of people will be purchasing a scarf. I do feel a bit ripped of tho

Scarf is better than a tie, bit in the end , it would be better for the club to keep the money. How many scarves do you need ?

Posted

Just a new one that GLOWS 2008 maybe with 150th birthday on it or somthin (would I be asking to much to have"Oldest football club in the world" embroided on it aswell)

Posted
what is it you would rather for "other"

Commemorative 150th pin, MFC bar mat, MFC golf/sports towel...... anything really.

I have enough scarves for every window of both cars and as others have said, i would never wear the tie.

A tie does seem like an odd choice. Would you wear a tie to the football?

I know us females are getting a throw of some sort, which I guess will be slightly more useful.

I agree that in our 150th year, it would have been nice to receive some sort of commemorative merchandise, be it a scarf or otherwise.

I will now have to purchase a new scarf, because there is no way I'm wearing my 2007 one... BAD omen right there!

A cap would be great - going to Sydney games at the SCG you get the feeling of being severely out numbered (Doh - well obviously) but it is so in your face given the majority of the crowd have their bright red Swanies hats on. We could do a great navy/red baseball cap style.

Can't see myself wearing a wrap to the footy but I guess I should reserve my judgement until it arrives!

Anyone know what they are offering the youngies - my kids have got the scarf the last few years but I can't imagine my girls wanting a wrap or my young boys a tie!

i cant wait to have the tie.

i get into the bag of fruit once or twice a year.....

itd be sick!!!

plus im 24

when im 84 i can walk into the long room with it on......awesome

and when we win the flag

ill wear it around my head rambo style for a month

Haha. Disturbing!

For anyone who is interested in buying a new scarf for next year, the club is selling a members only 2008 scarf for $25, or you can pick up a non-year specific scarf for like $10 from the Melbourne Shop.

And because I'm so nice, I'll even provide you with the relevant links:

2008 Scarf

Other Scarves

Remember kids, shop at the Melbourne store so that all the money goes to our club!

And after all that, if they don't offer me a job, they are just foolish :D

i have sooooooooo many melbourne scarves there coming out of my A*S. off the top of my head i can count 8-9. A tie i havent got and would be nice. but yes it is our 150th maybe go a bit wild here and do something a bit more than tie/scarf.

I think they should offer more choice, maybe out of 4 or 5 items.

Maybe choose from / scarf / tie / cap / MFC casual belt / or beanie/.

I thought it was good that they mixed it up a bit.

Most guys will have need to wear a tie once in a while, even if they don't wear one for work.

As others have said, many members will have a house full of scarves already.

I was of the understanding that members under 15 recieved a beanie with the mascot on it.

i too would like them to mix it up a little. BUT from the club point of view, mixing it up probably means reduced sales at the membership shop, as we dont have to buy a hat, scarf, tie beanie etc. so it works oth ways. appeasing the members, selling merchandise...

my bloke sewed all his scarves together (while sitting in front of the tv hour after hour last cricket season) to make a poncho, which he wears to the footy when it's cold. mildly embarrassing, but pretty great.

Except they've just mixed it up by veering away from the scarf :P

just a question regarding interstate membership-

The one game we get in our state ( QLD) gabba game, do they plonk us somewhere random or do we get to choose where we sit cause i usually take along a group of mates and like to sit next to them .

Thanks guys

Just paid my membership. Looking forward to getting the tie. My boss is a Filth member and has a tie (which I hate looking at), so now I will be able to wear mine. Got enough scarves. A cap as well would have been good. In 2006 I got a scarf and a cap - I'm an interstate member. Did everyone get both that year?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
