Last night on "Before the Bounce" on Foxtel, there was a discussion about the Dockers and their need to get more midfield run. Rocket Eade said that the Dockers were after Johnstone ( or had spoken to - can't remember which). There was some discussion as to how much pace he would add, but Eade was definite that it was an avenue the Dockers were exploring. I wonder what Freo would be prepared to put up and how this might assist us with other possibilities?

I don't like this idea and i dont think it will happen. IMO Melbourne will trade for Judd and if we don't get Judd we will probably look to trade off our fringe players ala Ferguson, Miller, Jamar etc etc

Dean Bailey has already said he doesn't plan on doing to much in trade week. There could be one big trade at melbourne (if we don't get Judd) and it's either Robertson or Bruce/TJ/Green and would rather they all stay preferably Robo.

I'm constantly bemused why Melbourne supporters think VFL quality players are tradeable. We 'might' get lucky, but they're either keepers for depth, or delist material imo. I'd send them packing, but we can only turn the list over so much. Unfortunately.

They also want to give nothing to get something.

To get Judd I'd trade any person on our list with pick 4 save McLean (and Neitz - due to age/lack of interest/icon/morale, bleeding obvious/stating it for the knobs on here/etc).

And even then if it was going to get the deal done I'd probably do it.

Personally I'd prefer to keep Jones over McLean, but those two should be our 'untouchables'

I wouldn't argue strongly against what you say, but to get Judd no one is untouchable for me.

Not many would agree with me, and I completely understand. I don't want to sell the farm, but pick 4 and 'anyone' will do me.

These players are deadwood I know that and I don't expect them to be traded I just think they will be put onto the trade table. I never suggested any trades marely said that they will be put out there as trade possiblities. Why haven't we delisted Ferguson or Jamar or Warnock and the list goes on cause they serve as a possiblity to be traded for what? Draft Picks or another young player. Why do you think Mark Riley has been playing these fringe players for the last 8 rounds or something to build up there trade bait. Now Hawthorn were interested in Ferguson last year when he played less games than this year so the chances of other clubs noticing him are higher. Also Miller and Jamar are KPP so therefore they always appeal to other clubs especially when they are YOUNG KPP. Mark Riley also played Miller in the backs and forwards why? To show his versitility which would appeal to other clubs. I also mentioned that there might be one big trade for melbourne and that would mean using the people I mentioned in Green TJ Bruce and Robertson which you failed to mention.

To put in short:

TJ Bruce Green and Robertson --------> Big Trade Bait

Miller Jamar and Fergie etc ---------> Small Trade Bait

Please don't blow things out of preportion

Beama, did you read my post? The source was Eade on "Before the Bounce". He said he believed discussions had or were going to take place. Simple as that. By the way - I don't think it is such a ludicrous idea - the Dockers love recruiting mid-career players who are due for a change of environment. Might work out well for all parties.

Yep, that was what promoted the discussion - I believe it was Mark Robinson who queried how much pace he would add; Eade spoke about "run" as opposed to pace. I think he'd go well on the big Subiaco ground.

I agree to some extent, but when this trade period is over we need to have depth in our midfield, not just one star. Right now our inside mids consist of J.Mac, Jones and McLean. Junior is in his 30's and will slow down so that leaves just two genuine inside mids (and there could be a good argument stating that McLean isn't a genuine inside mid). If we trade away either of these two then will be in the same position (albeit a bit stronger) as before, a great starting lineup but when we go up against a team like Collingwood who does over 90 interchanges a game then it won't matter if we have Judd or not, we'll get run off our feet. West Coast were successfull because that had a group of great players not just one star.

We need to keep our best midfield together as much as possible for the Judd trade to work.

at the last sandi game i saw robbie warnock floating around. could he be involved in the trade? we need a big ruckman and he's shown a bit. this is pure speculation though based on nothing.

Trapper to Dockers for a top 10.

Two top 10's and Robbo to Eagles for Judd.

Get it done.

He was probably there to see his brother play.

Geez picks 4, 6, 21, 37, 53, 69 in the draft would be sweet.

I'm starting to think Judd is not the answer. Teams win premierships, not individuals. If we got ourselves into this position I'd think we'd be silly not to use them to recruit a midfielder, key back and ruckman. Surely that leaves us in a better position then with Judd?

The one thing thats going to happen this year that didnt last..is trades!!!!! One wayor another...peoplel are moving..picks are changing.. Judd is the catalyst for it. Whether we are his new home or not.. we wont look quite the same next year ( and thank ***k for that too )

2008...is going to be a happening year for MFC :)

Trapper does provide run across the lines.

He is not express but he doesn't fumble which means he can break away from a contest more easily than alot of players.

Is he tradeable? For Judd obviously yes. Eagles do rate hiim but query his application/intensity.

Is he tradeable generally? Yes

For mine our lack of depth in the ruck and key positions means we are 3 - 5 years off challenging for a flag. Trading Trapper for a Top 10 Pick gives us a chance to draft a spine player to start grooming to be ready when we are in a position to challenge for a flag. To wit key position draftee obtained by trading Trapper is more likely to help us win our next flag than Trapper. He holds more currency than Bruce who is older and Green has not come on as much as we thought he would. The additional pick obtained would allow us to take one of key position prospects Henderson/Rance at 4 followed by best available midfielder at pick obtained for Travis. followed hopefully by a 200cm plus ruck at our 2nd round pick.

Robbo is tradeable if he wants 3 years - like Trapper he is unlikely to be a part of our next flag assault. Unsure what the Bullies would offer, certainly not their first rounder methinks - they'd be better off keeping their picks and restocking their rucks and spine like us.

More broadly in terms of list balance we need to take note of a team like Port whose quick rebuild is for mine much helped by a willingness to stock up on developing rucks and key position players. Hopefully Bailey will bring this ethos with him.

imagine pick 5 in there as well if we were to manufacture a trade involving robbo to the bullies

But imagine how crap we'll be next year if we lose our leading goal kicker and classiest midfielder.

Did anyone notice we started playing better footy when Trapper returned from injury for the Dogs game in round 19. He is a must keep in my opinion.

I would only be looking to trade Trapper if we were getting Judd, it's a bit of a 1 step back two steps forward scenario. I'm worried about how many players are being shopped around from our side this year, surely it can't be good for club moral, especially if players we put up aren't traded.

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
