Ok, it'd be really helpful if someone did an 'ins and outs' chart for our footy department.

At the moment we're missing a Senior Coach and a Football Manager, right?

And it seems ever more likely that we'll be selecting a new captain, too.

Does anyone thing Williams might be doing a Ratten and moving on at the end of one year, too? Can't say I've been impressed with our midfield 'system' and

Sydney-like defensive teamwork

Still, I guess this means that a new coach would have a big opportunity to create his own coaching and leadership team.

With no Football operations manager and no current coach.

Whoever the new coach is they will be able to really have their input into the list next year, into changes (de-listings and trades) and drafting.

You can't turn sand into gold. McLean, Moloney, TJ, Bruce, and Green have all missed substantial footy.

Still, I guess this means that a new coach would have a big opportunity to create his own coaching and leadership team.

If I were coming to the Club, this would be attractive.

Good luck as you choof off to Hawksville.

I wonder if this may have been prompted by the literal "seeing the writing on the wall"...i.e privy to the process realises he too may not be involved in the prospective incumbents's plans !!

I see nothing untoward in tis ... possibly just a sound and reasoned decision. Pure speculation of course...but would make sense.

No loss

BRING ON SHEEEDY!!

Geez people here can be d*ckheads.

Here is someone who has given 10 years service to our club, and his departure is being put as "no loss". No loss? Imagine you spent 10 years somewhere and it was put that your departure was no loss.

Fair enough if you have specific reasons you think it's time for him to leave, or that you think he did a bad job, but there is no doubt Fagan worked his guts out for us, and it is only graceful to thank him for his time.

How can people come on here and simply say "no loss" ????????

How the hell do you know?

Clearly he offers something that appeals to the Hawks, and they have snapped him up.

If you asked the players, and the people around the club, I'm sure they would say it is a big loss.

I don't know the bloke, and don't know what his impact has been on the place, but I dare say he was a valuable part of the footy department over the last 10 years.

Good luck Chris on the move to the Hawks, and thanks for the contribution you have made to the MFC!

People can come on here and say "no loss" because not everyone is so sentimental. Sure, I can thank him for his time and service over the years, but at the end of the day, he was the Football Manager of an unsuccessful football department, in terms of results, which is what his role is about.

Best of luck Chris.

It's got nothing to do with being sentimental............I just love how people with no idea of his role or importance to the club say "no loss" as though they actually think they know!

By simply saying "no loss" implies the 10 years he spent with the MFC was meaningless, and he contributed nothing which I am sure is far from the case.

Thats just it though, his legacy will be seen in the next 5 years, (on the ladder I think you mean). The type of recruiting youngsters with leadership abilities has come about in his time @ the dees. The mistakes in recruiting & player development were made as I can see in hindsight before his time as football manager.

It's a shame but i think this is good because it gives us a new beginning within our footy department.

I saw him at the Sandy game yesterday, in the Grandstand. He was sitting alongside Riley.

My greatest moment of him was that Bulldogs match back in '05. Got it on tape, and love the celebrations at the end, particularly that mighty embrace Danners and Fagan gave each other.

He loved the place, and had an extremely strong friendship with Danners.

New coach, New footy manager, New assistants (???), new captain (???)

It is definately the end of an era at the MFC.

As I understand it, Fagan was contracted for 2008. Do Hawthorn have to pay compensation to MFC for poaching him?

Its an employment contract.

If he walks, and is allowed to under the terms, he gets nothing.

Agreed. Clarkson hasn't made too many mistakes so far, I doubt he's going to start now.

But the point being made isn't that people have to agree that he has done a good job. It's the arrogance of failing to thank Chris for his blood, sweat and tears over the years, or worse, coming on and posting "No loss" with nothing else to substantiate it. This is about common decency to an officer of the MFC, which transcends his performance (especially when he has not paid out on the club). Some people need to pull their heads in.

Whilst many will hold dear a moments pause for the thanking of those that have participated in Melbourne's glorious recent decade I certainly hope the latter of the above holds true. Its the end of an era..and the start to a more successful one, shame as usual that some that deserved better outcomes wont be amongst it.

It's been a pleasure knowing you, and I wish you all the best at the Hawks. It won't be quite the same in the off and pre-season without you down at training.

peace,

Finks.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
